- Reach will NOT follow the book, Fall of Reach.
- We play as Spartan IIIs. Jorge is the only Spartan II on the team, and as a result is larger.
- Carter 259 and Kat 320 are the only members of their original squad.
- Jorge is a heavy weapons specialist.
- ?Skully? now has a name, Emile 239. He?s the silent type of the game.
- The sniper is called Jun 266. He?s thoughtful and taciturn.
- We can customise the appearance of the Lone Wolf by a small degree. Awesome.
- The game is apparently darker than any of the other Halo games, even more so than ODST.
- Human Insurrectionists are possibly in the game
- Bungie have once again made the Covenant more dangerous and frightening, as they were in Halo 1.
- Covenant soldiers no longer speak English, they speak in their own languages.
- A new enemy like a Jackal has been introduced, named a ?Skirmisher.? They are deadly and cunning enemies that attack in packs, and flank secure positions.
- Graphics have been improved drastically, as proven by in-magazine comparisons.
- Elites are back, and are more ferocious than ever.
- Larger scale combat will be in Reach. Where only 20 AI at a time could be on screen in Halo 3, now over 40 AI and 20 vehicles can be present at a time.
- Scenes are more cinematic.
- Noble Team splits up at a point in the story, but it seems they soon get back together.
- Health Bar is back along with energy shield.
- Single shot rifle like the Halo 2 E3 demo is in the game, named the Designated Marksman Rifle (DRM)
- Sniper, AR and Magnum make a return. Gun sounds are more realistic.
- Needler Rifle is in the game, a mid-range headshot capable weapon.
- Spike Grenades and Flame Grenades are out. Only frags and plasma remain.
- Helicopter Transport is called the Falcon.
- Civillian vehicles are now drivable.
- Fully stealthy gameplay is now possible.
- Assassinations are possible with a knife by holding down the melee button.
- Sprinting is now possible through an equipment like mechanic.
- Spirits, the Covenant drop ship in CE, return in Reach, alongside Phantoms.
- Grunts look a lot more menacing.
- Motion Tracker seems compressed, like an oval rather than the Halo 3 circle.
- Hud is yellow rather than blue.
- Marines look vaguely like Halo 1 marines.
- Phantoms now have a flashlight, like the one seen in the ODST announcement trailer.
- Elites seem taller, and are no longer hunched.
- All features from Halo 3 (Forge, Theatre, Co-op) make a comeback along with several new ones.

here is all the information from a website, seems quite good tbh

EDIT: sorry its long haha

I'm still wondering how they can make a game out of Reach, a major loss for humanity because they were fucking flattened.

And from the book's lore, only the Pillar of Autumn made it out.
The game is definitely not based on the book "Fall of Reach", even though it has "Reach" in the name.

I wish they put in the Spartans training scene from the book.
i second this immensely, going up to the tower to ring the bell...i'd feel quite accomplished =] haha

or the part where john just rapes on those dickhead marines in the boxing ring when hes testing the pin falling

You'd think they'd used the drop-ship design from Halo/Halo Wars considering this is a prequel.

I don't know what to say other than it looks like Halo.

Because it looks like Halo. A lot.

Except the guy in the very first image, who the developers thought would look cool if they painted a skull on him.

Look, Ghost might have been able to pull it off, but drawing on your helmet?
Pretty much what I thought when I first saw that guy, it doesn't even make sense from the stories point of view, Spartans don't have arrogance/cockiness, they are like brainwashed drones, they exist to fight, not show off.
Indeed.

Also, he painted on his helmet.

I just can't see the tactical advantage of that!
My brothers a bit of a Halo nut (although Im gradually converting him) but hes an avid fan of the series and has read a lot of the books and background info. From what he says, despite the training and stuff, the Spartans are NOT drones, they all have personalities and different abilities, they're basically just stolen from thier families at a very early age and then spend most of thier life being augmented and trained, so whilst they're indoctrinated, Spartan A may have a very different personality to Spartan B, just like normal soldiers do, just more...regimented.

I guess this game has decided to go with that flow of thoughts, I mean I thought it was fairly obvious the guy is fairly monotone in the other Halo games because hes the only one, and bar small bits of dialogue, hes fairly taciturn and silent so people could characterise him how they wanted.

I find if funny when people say it looks just like Halo1/2/3.
Well it really, really does. This comes from a person who hasn't played any of the Halo games though.

But seriously, it does.
I only played halo 1 and 3 myself but this
does not look like

this
In all honesty I do believe it does. It's nowhere near as shocking as, for instance, this:

It looks like an improvement, similar to the one from Halo 3 to ODST.
I don't know, but will we be able to choose our Spartan this time and customise them?
Colour their armor, choose parts, play as a female?

I don't know much about this next game.

They're already wearing high tech, shielded, powered armour, would it be that much of a stretch to suggest he uses sensors/cameras built into the helmet, either that or the paint is one way?

True, obviously it looks like Halo, it's a Halo game. But it also looks very different from the previous Halo games, at least graphically. It still has the colour pallet I like about Halo, but it's not the same. I can't put my finger one it, maybe it's just an increase of quality, but it just feels different as well.

And I'm also getting a GTA-ish vibe for some odd, unexplainable reason. Some part in me tells me that we'll get a sandbox-ish Halo in which we can pick where and when we do what missions on Reach.

And 4 man online multiplayer co-op ala Borderlands, but it's almost obvious that we'll see that.

Hm, looks pretty neat. I'll say this, though, a few of these Spartans look laughably out of place.
The new jackals, however (Skirmishers, were they?), looked pretty menacing.
In any case, I'm definately giving the multiplayer beta a try when the time comes. Why not? It's free.

I'm not sure you're allowed to make a shooter anymore without that.

Just to show how much the graphics have updated I thought I'd throw some pictures up for you guys. (Far right is the Halo: Reach versions)

Grunts

Elites

Warthogs

Marines (Probably the coolest improvement)

Also some info on the new weapons for those who are interested:

Designated Marksman Rifle

The DMR (more formally the Designated Marksman Rifle, Caliber 7.62 mm, M392) is an air-cooled, gas-operated rifle firing 7.62x51mm ammunition.

Although it saw more widespread use throughout all branches of the UNSC prior to 2548, it has since been superseded in use by the BR55 in all branches but the Army.

Needler Rifle

The Type-31 Rifle (or T31 rifle) is more commonly identified as the Needle Rifle. It fires unconventional projectiles that are very long and very sharp-hence Needle rifle. The projectiles detonate several seconds after coming to rest in soft tissue.

MA37 (New Assault Rifle)

The MA37 (more formally Individual Combat Weapon System, Caliber 7.62 mm, MA37) is an air-cooled, gas-operated rifle firing 7.62x51mm ammunition. It is magazine-fed and is capable of fully automatic fire. The MA37 (MA5 for Marines and Navy) first entered service with the UNSC in 2437, it has remained the primary service rifle of all branches of the UNSC ever since.

And the new vehicles...

Falcon

The UH-144 is a versatile, transverse-rotor multipurpose utility helicopter. Two Falcons can transport a fully-equipped infantry squad faster than any previous system, and provide overwhelming support fire, in most weather conditions.

Spirit Dropship (I know its not technically new...)

The Type-25 Troop Carrier (or T25 TC) is also known as the Spirit, although it is almost universally identified as troop carrier or dropship. It is capable of carrying up to 30 infantry and 2 vehicles. It is armed with one heavy plasma auto-cannon.

And that new enemy somebody pointed out...

Skirmishers

The Jackal and Skirmisher are of the same species, with the larger, more heavily muscled specimens comprising grenadier-type units (Skirmishers) and the smaller, more lightly built specimens seeing deployment as dedicated ranger or sniper units (Jackals). This is a significant change from engagements prior to 2530 when mixed units were more common.
