Or maybe, oh, I don't know; Maybe their juding the game based on it's Gameplay.

Seriously, they said that the story is still at least competent.
If you want a masterpiece of a story go read a book or watch a film.
so games aren't supposed to have a good story now? I know the standards are pretty low for games but come on we can have some expectations...
Considering that most of the games considered to be masterpieces have little or no story and rely almost completely on their gameplay, it's hardly a new development.
look at Ico tell me there is no story there, look at Shadow Of The Colossus tell me there is no story there, look at Half Life tell me there is no story there... it's not that there is no story it's just that it's told different, it impacts all aspects of the game it's gameplay, the world it creates, and it's characters making it essential to develop all pieces together... well at least that's how it should be...

also the lack of innovation in the design and the story have been my biggest turn offs...
These days, yeah alright. Halo:CE was massively innovative though.
actually let me rephrase that... how was Halo:CE massively innovative the only things I can think of it did different from other shooters was... off hand nades and a melee button... other than that I can't think of much... than again I am a PC gamer so maybe it did something for consoles that went over my head... please enlighten me...
Good is subjective. I liked it, others won't. I'm arguing that it was innovative. That's a conclusion you can draw whilst being totally objective.

This article sums everything up better than i can. Halo:CE did a lot for console shooters.

Ok so it suited a shooter for consoles that's all the article really said in the end...

I've stopped listening to reviewers a long time ago. Except Yahztee because he's awesome.

I have to try the games myself, there have been games critics didn't like that are some of my personal favorites like God Hand. However the Halo series has lost its splendor to me. The story just sucks.

That's what I said when I found out Bungie's best idea for a trilogy's ending was leaving their main character sleep in space.....

I dunno. The story of Halo's pretty good, but seriously? Perfect 10? There were a lot of flaws in Halo 3 and that got a perfect 10. The game does come out tomorrow, so I'll get the chance to play the game myself.

It also was one of the first games to introduce regenerating shields (though Red faction did it first and puled it off much better).
Honestly, when you get down to the balls and all of Halo, it's a fairly generic fps.
For all you people who wish to flame me for that statement I'll have you know I recently restarted Halo:CE and while I'm having fun, it really isn't all that much to write home about.
It wasn't back then (apart from it being the only decent Xbox game at the time) and it still isn't now.
I also quite enjoyed ODST which deviated from the norm a bit with the series (with some semi-optional stealth bits and the new HUD/NVG) but still that was a fairly generic FPS.

Now, without having played the game I can't comment
Stopped caring about your opinions right here. You haven't played it. You're reading a review and deciding the score they awarded for the whole package does not correspond with what you feel the game deserves based on your personal opinion of the series and a few nitpicks.

Everything I've heard so far is that it's generally quite a good game, with a few niggling issues that always seem to pop up - AI that doesn't always act how it should, littlethings like that. Apparently it has an immersive story and solid gameplay mechanics. What more do we want? I personally think the Halo story is a pretty good one, you don't have to agree - but stop assuming everyone else is wrong.

Why does a 10/10 imply that a game is perfect anyway? This srawman really pisses me off.
You get A+ on a writing assignment. That means your assignment was perfect right? No flaws? Could not have been improved? Or did it simply meet all the requirements to be awarded the top grade?

Any critic that still insists on scoring by numbers or who reviews a brand/series before the physical game in front of them, and gives lenience because of it, I avoid.

In other words IGN and most other reviewers in the world.

We shouldn't get overexcited. The only people who will even take that review seriously will be people who were always going to buy the game regardless of the reviews. So its a redundant review, we shouldn't care what they say. Just trust each other on this site to, in the grand scheme, give a balanced review.

It may be a perfectly good game, but IGN can't be trusted. I don't listen to serious reviews because it is all opinionated. I only go by my own opinion...

Look at the Marios, the Zeldas, most of the Metroids, the Street Fighters, the early Sonic games, the Contras, Team Fortress 2, etc. and tell me that there are important stories there that improve the gameplay experience.

Having just beat the campaign, it's easily the best campaign (and the best-told story) of the Halo franchise. Make of that what you will.
Thanks for getting me even more excited! ARGH come on, midnight, hurry up!!

You do realise that IGN has never given a high profile game under 8... i'll just let you think about that for a bit.

Considering that I would give Portal a perfect 10, TF2 a 9.5, and all three Half Life 2's a minimum of 9.25 each, I know that I'm a Valve fanboy. I assume that even IGN gets Halo fanboys into writing positions every once in a while. When I read reviews, I ignore the highest scores, and the lowest scores.
