I do think that there are so major problems with the Halo rts. I mean halo is good but not rts. I've seen the demo being played and I can almost instantly say that I don't think that Im going to rent it let alone buy it. Nice try bugie but sadly I don't like it.

Yeah, I think that was a horrible choice. Presenting the player with a barracks building that makes marines and flamethrower dudes makes him think StarCraft. They should have made those things lightning guns or whatever (short range rifles would probably look too samey), just to avoid attaching a big "we liked StarCraft!" label to the game.

As for supply income it's fine IMO. You've got seven slots on your starting base, depots are so damn cheap you can afford to throw them on there and recycle them later if you need the space. Make one rax, fill the rest with depots and you'll have income so fast you won't be able to spend it all just with the one rax (which would be a good argument to make two rax instead of one...). If you keep throwing your resources on the battlefield (i.e. spam marines as fast as you can) you should be able to take the neutral base and resource collector pretty quickly (I think I took them with 4 marine squads in the attack force, nades wreck the base pretty damn fast) though you might leave your front door too vulnerable if you do that. If you grab the full res on your side of the map that's a massive income.

While I can't speak as *ahem* intelligently as some about the expanded Halo universe, I can talk about gameplay, which is really where this game fell through for me.

The game is pretty, I'll certainly grant it that. I like the building animations and the various actions onscreen that make something like Warcraft 3 or Starcraft seem exactly as dated as they are.

Otherwise, the game felt *exactly* like a stripped down Starcraft. Others have said that this is a console RTS, and therefore must be judged by different standards than the PC counterpart, but all I know is, when I'm playing the demo, all I can think of is the stuff that I can't do, that I should be able to do in any self-respecting RTS to date.

This game is RTS "lite", or "Baby's First RTS" if you will. Its greatest challenges as I've seen them so far are presented not by the devious AI or the complex system of counters and foils, but by a controller not adequately equipped to handle the genre. Perhaps more time with the full game would prove me wrong, but frankly, I see no reason to pursue this proof, since I have a perfectly good and functioning PC right next to the TV, and it can play an RTS properly. Learning to like this game would be like giving up Guinness and forcing myself to drink Budweiser until I learned to love it.

I completely agree, flamethrowers are worthless.

Most of your complaints seem like nitpicks. I actually thought that as far as a FPS going RTS goes they were staying pretty faithful to the Halo universe. I can understand the complaint about Spartans having shields, but would anyone use them if they didn't have shields? More people would complain about them not having shields than the few that would complain about the minor timeline issue. Jackals move in groups of two because they are awesome, and they would be overpowered if there were any more of them in a group. Wraiths don't cause major explosions when they fire, but I didn't really expect much. The covenant NEEDS to upgrade their units for them to be useful, and the Wraith is the most obvious example. Until you at least have the shield upgrade there's no way a Wraith can take on a Scorpion. As for Halo Wars being gritty, I honestly think you were expecting something that would never happen. Maybe ODST will be slightly more gritty, but for now many people like Halo the way it is.

And he/she/it forgot that this is a demo. Just thought I'd point out another fallacy. :)
hum... no. The demo represents the full game, I played some games against the computer on both sides, And that includes all the units except one or 2 unique units, and since the game is shipping soon no major changes can be made, outside of DLC/updates, please think first, talk later.
Bwa ha ha ha ha! *snerk* HA HA HA HA HA! I think I pity you now.

Let me say this about Halo Wars: It's fun (for me) and has had effort put into it (eg. quality pre-rendered cut scenes). There. Fun is, strangely, what I look for most in an RTS, despite it being the genre which puts the most focus on achievement and being the best rather than just enjoying yourself. That's why Red Alert 2 is one of my favourite RTSs; because it was amusing.

Dont' knock the Flamethrower. They single handedly fixes the issue of Covenant rushes. If you got rushed by a Covenant force and didn't have flamethrowers you'd be f**ked beyond reason.

agreed flamthrower units suck and dont contribute at all to the fight. one time in skirmish i let the enemy build up his forces as strong as he could so i could watch an epic battle. flamethrowers were the first to die
That's because they're pretty much the single most basic unit in the game, bar standard infantry. And they're mainly for use against infantry, which you won't see much of late game.

From all I know, Harvest got glassed, Yet it doesn't look like that at all in the game. Now that, I dislike.
*/POTENTIAL SPOILER*
Actually that's a good point. It's disputed to whether Harvest was completely glassed or just partially. If it was completely glassed then it would become a barren inhabitable wasteland with no atmosphere but Halo Wars does show the north pole mostly intact. It's very likely most of Harvest was glassed but small areas and the north pole were left intact.

I take offense from someone with 25 posts and no avatar, I really do.
The stuff I mentioned can't and won't be changed at this point.

I really do hope they address that in the game, but the covenants aren't that known for leaving "hostile" planets "alive", if I'm not wrong.
I really do hope that they adress, or atleast excuse this in the story, we will just have to wait and see I guess.

I'm more upset that the Flood are in it. Yeah Yeah I know it's a Halo game but it kinda spoils it for me. Part of what made Halo 1 so great for me was that the Flood was this completely unknown entity that threw both sides into chaos like a third chess player suddenly showing up.

Anyway I think they did a great job bringing RTS to console and will still get it.

You sure it's not a basic Halo with an RTS thrown in it?

This could make everyone angry, unlike mixing peanut butter and chocolate. Unless you're allergic to peanut butter. Then that just sucks. :(

Halo Wars is great, and I strongly disliked the earlier games. But it's by the people that made AoE, so go figure.

the units are pretty weird. but its pretty hard to develop an rts game with dozens of different units and incorporate it with something like Halo, a FPS game.

The books themselves had a few differences from the game, in Fall of Reach, the spartans were evenly matched with the elites, which isnt the case in the game. And there isnt much literature on ODSTs .

I think for an RTS game, its not bad. Especially for xbox, its very user-friendly. The game doesn't spend too much time on research techs and buildings, you just make a shit-ton of units and send them into the fight.

Not that much of a spoiler, but I just got another rant in my arsenal against the Halo wars wrong doings.

Huh, honestly I were hoping for the flood to be in but, that was before I read the books and before I read up on everything, now it's just... "Shrugs" meh.

And with a system like that, how could you ever make the whole assimilation alien-ripped thing work?
