STOP

REWARDING

DUMBED

DOWN

GAMES!
Would you kindly explain to me why simplicity in a game is a bad thing?

Considering how games are supposed to be fun little things designed to bring us mirth and joy, demanding that a game be complex and sophisticated strikes me as being somewhat ungrateful and arrogant (it's also remaniscent the people who ripped into The Force Unleashed because it simply wasn't kotor).

I actually enjoyed Halo Wars when playing the demo (which is pretty strange considering that I couldn't care less about the previous Halo games and how the back story set up by the comics etc. can go die in a fire as far as I care), granted, it's not Red Alert 2 or DoW but I haven't seen that many RTS games come out recently that are on par with those classics (RA3 was a shadow of it's former self) so having a game that is actually fun to play (if not exceptional or legendary) if a proud step in the right bloody direction.

This game did have a few issues (simplicity wasn't one of them, slow resource gathering and the fact that some units were pretty much useless, like jackals, were key issues) but none of them were severe enough to convince me not to get it when it comes out (provided that I have the money when that occurs).

Thanks for making a thread about this - If only you'd used the search button and found there is already a massive thread that has discussed all the points you mentioned to death.

And he/she/it forgot that this is a demo. Just thought I'd point out another fallacy. :)
hum... no. The demo represents the full game, I played some games against the computer on both sides, And that includes all the units except one or 2 unique units, and since the game is shipping soon no major changes can be made, outside of DLC/updates, please think first, talk later.
Bwa ha ha ha ha! *snerk* HA HA HA HA HA! I think I pity you now.
I take offense from someone with 25 posts and no avatar, I really do.
The stuff I mentioned can't and won't be changed at this point.

*POTENTIAL SPOILER*
From all I know, Harvest got glassed, Yet it doesn't look like that at all in the game. Now that, I dislike.
*/POTENTIAL SPOILER*
Actually that's a good point. It's disputed to whether Harvest was completely glassed or just partially. If it was completely glassed then it would become a barren inhabitable wasteland with no atmosphere but Halo Wars does show the north pole mostly intact. It's very likely most of Harvest was glassed but small areas and the north pole were left intact.
I really do hope they address that in the game, but the covenants aren't that known for leaving "hostile" planets "alive", if I'm not wrong.
I really do hope that they adress, or atleast excuse this in the story, we will just have to wait and see I guess.
Rather than try to mulch through the quotes, you can just look up your response. *ahem* You actually judge a person's worth based on the number of posts they make? Seriously? That would make trolls the most valuable life forms on the face of the planet. But thanks for taking offence. *snerk* Having worked software for almost ten years I can tell you that major changes can be accomplished in less than two days in advance of the release date. I can also tell you that this demo split from the game months ago so they could tie up all of the programming loose ends, put in some rudimentary testing to make sure it wouldn't toast your xBox, and that it wouldn't make the game leave the taste of road kill in your mouth. Trust me, if games were as good as their demos are most would be sitting on store shelves dreaming of what it would be like to be Halo or Gears of War. Try again.

That isn't a fallacy but thanks for coming out.
I think you are correct. It is indeed an omission.

The thing you need to ask yourself is if it wasn't halo would anyone buy it?
Highly doubtful. The thing that's selling it is the Halo name, no doubt about that. Sure, a few RTS fans would pick it up, but you'd be losing the ungodly huge selling power that is the mindless Halo-tard fanbase.

*So... Many... quotes...*
First, I had to clean up that tree of quotes, second, NO!, I do not value a persons worth on posts, look at me, I've been around for over 6 months, and I have made around 400 posts, that is around 2 posts per day, do the math yourself. If I thought that posts affected your status in any way, I would post way more.

Also, a post dedicated to laughing is a post wasted, that made you an easy target, you can laugh all you want, you don't have to post it to that extent. Bottom line is, I don't care about any "status" related stuff, I treat everyone equally. (Read as "Sh**")

And now you made me write this post, completely of topic, happy?
Also, it felt like you were trying to insult me, that's why I said, "As if I am going to take offense from..."

for those of us who don't play PC RTS games, there isn't alot wrong that we can see. it's streamlined, not THAT difficult, etc etc etc.

for those of us who do play PC RTS it's stupefied beyond belief, and so bare-boned that it's almost a mockery with how lean it is. there's very little meat to it... much like other games named Halo.... hrm...

Anyway, I do enjoy Halo stuff, but I can be honest and rip it where it deserves.

maybe the fact that its another "Halo" game witch makes it so horrible
This is actually a good point.

'If this game wasn't from the Halo series would anyone rush out to buy it?' is a question someone raised earlier but this idea could also work in reverse 'if this game wasn't from the Halo series would it recieve as much flak as it has from some more 'venerable' gamers?'.

I said the same about Gears of War 2, wait until it's actually out before we don our 'smart arse game critic' caps and talk like we know the game like the back of our hand.

Granted, I missed a book since they don't sell them here, but now the books contradict each other?
Well then, I'll apply the stupid theory of, The book that came first, is the correct one.
Aside from a few stupid details in The Fall of Reach the books don't contradict each other (and I could be wrong about Fall of Reach, I'll need to look up the date of the "Hunter encounter").

Anyway, I think Halo Wars is paving the way for console RTS's much as Halo: Combat Evolved did for console FPS's. By which I mean establishing a more streamlined experience by the necessity of not having a ~72 button keyboard and ultra precision mouse to work with. And that is to be commended, it's easy to dump a bunch of controls on a bunch of keys or into a list menu, it takes real talent to put that into two joysticks, some buttons, and a pair of triggers (or rather break away from the long established tradition of lots of hotkeys and menus).
