Killing the blue dragon in Demon's Souls. You never actually fight in, and have to shoot or magic it to death. Takes a looooong time.

Wasn't this topic an article on GamesRadar? I only remember because they do some goofy photoshop work that sticks to my mind sometimes. In fact, I distinctly remember gonzo20's pick being on their list.

My pick:
(Complete Item Collection)
Dead or Alive Xtreme 2. It could take a very long time, even if you're dedicated, and it'll stop being fun long long before you get 1/10 of the way there.

I am one pigeon away from the "Key to the City" in GTA4.
I used a map from the start of getting them! So how is that possible?!?!?

Almost got "Appeture Science" in Portal. Just another broken controler and I should get it -.-

The flag finding achievements in the first Assassin's Creed are pretty awful.

There is an achievement for playing a game every single day, for 100 days. The online player is boring as fuck and almost no one plays it.
You can cheat that one

"Vesperia master" achievement from Tales of Vesperia. The ungodly grind you would need to do it is nothing short of horrific (do the secret mission for all 23 bosses; get every title; scan every enemy in the game; obtain every item; do the first chapter in less than 15 hours-took me about 35- and much, much, MUCH more), and it is worth absolutlely no gamerpoints at all.

If anyone here has this achievement, I tip my hat to this God among men. And I'm fairly sure the disc has probably melded to the inside of your console as a result and you can play nothing else. So, sorry too.

The thing with a lot of the posts so far is that the achievements people have quoted are not exactly hard, just involve very, very long grinds. Stuff like kill X amount of people, play X hours, reach lvl 100 etc. are just time devouring, not hard.

I'm finding completing a campaign on expert realism on l4d2 hard to get mainly because I don't have enough friends with the game to make a team. Portal Gold medal challenges are just evil along with camera shy which is actually impossible without cheating.

Lets see... Off the top of my head...
Bomberman: Act zero where you have to break a million soft blocks.
Guitar Hero Van Halen: 5 achievements where you have to get 5 stars on every instrument, on every van halen song, on expert. And for guitar this includes "Eruption" "Spanish Fly" "little guitars" and "Cathedral"
Earth defense force 2017: Beat game on inferno
Ninja Gaiden II: Beat game on master ninja.
Devil may cry 4: Get S rank on every difficulty and every level.

the one from HL2: episode 2 where you had to protect the village from striders without a single building being destroyed... that was hard (especially when your PC starts lagging with 2 striders on the screen at once)

doing 7 real days in the original dead rising, yes kids, that means throw away 168 hours of your life! and you have no saves, you can die if you dont eat and the worst part is youll probably get bored of actually killing zombies within an hour
No, it's not real days, it's in game days.

OT: Tom Clancy's: Ghost Warrior or whatever....Become number one on the World Ladder. That's right, be the best around, no excuses.

In Ghost recon advanced warfighter I think it was called. Anyway you had to be number one in the world in the multiplayer in order to get the achievement. Also gears of war get 10,000 multiplayer kills ones, fun. Spent a few years to get that one. I didn't really actually care about it till I actually got into the 9,000 range but dang that took forever.
oh god i remember looking at that the first time
this has to be one of the hardest to get.

"Leave No Rock Unturned" in Just Cause 2. Find 1000 resource items.

Have fun with that grind.
I did it. ^_^ Also, I'm at like 97.99% completion. I got all the faction items and have done every mission and challenge. I only need a few straggler crates and a mysterious thing or two I can't find that need to be blown up in Panau City and one particular airport. I think it may be glitched though, as one section of the city is complete at 100%, but doesn't have the 'area complete' checkmark.

Doesn't L4D2 have an achievement to play 7 mutations? Haven't there been only 2 so far so I guess that's "Impossible" at the moment
