In your gaming career can you recall the most difficult boss you have encountered and defeated? Tell us about it.

If we're counting MMOs, pre-nerf M'uru hands down.
If we aren't, Maya from Parasite Eve. I'm still not confident you can beat her without being over level 38 due to the exp curve 'exploit.'

I remember having a tough time with Thardus from Metroid Prime. Mostly because I overlook the simplest answer.

Although the game was kind enough to give me a hint after I had already figured out the gimmick.

Akachi from Mask of the Betrayer.
Akachi is a Level 30 Cleric/5 Fighter, but he doesn't cast spells - just a small selection of spell-like abilities (the worst is Isaac's Missile Storm, which comes out rarely). Honestly it's his six attacks a round with a wicked-looking negative-energy-dealing scythe that's the bigger worry. He's also immune to most status effects and is permanently Hasted. The fight is more or less a straight-up beatdown. There's no gimmicks: no levers, no statues, no rituals, no portals. However, Akachi has 700 HP... ...and every time he reaches Near Death, he heals up and spawns a little Akachi to help him. These Akachi clones are a lot weaker than the real thing, with 'only' 360 HP and all 18s in their stats instead of all 30s, but they're still a menace. And if you're not careful, you can end up surrounded by the things - a very painful experience.

There are four Akachi clones to fight through before the Faceless Man can be defeated: Remorseless Instinct (chance to Confuse on hit), Infinite Despair (Doom on hit), Unrelenting Fury (Hasted) and Insatiable Hunger (Vampiric Regeneration +5). After they're dead, it's only a matter of finishing off Akachi.
Took me a few times to fight.

I also had trouble with Gary Oak from Red.

Crawmerax the Invincible from Borderlands.
I'd try and explain it but... Well, let's just say he doesn't have that title for nothin'.

I'm ashamed me and my pal can't beat him without him using a glitchy corner where he can't be hit and me being not a lot more than bait...

Final boss from Blacksite. The guy was insane. (and I mean it. the developers really failed the balancing of that fight. In a FPS, the final boss shouldn't be able to take damage like a boss from a MMORPG, the playtypes are far from the same.)

Zeus from God of War 3.

I found him very hard to beat (Due to limited room for movement and causing me to dodge the wrong way)

It also didn't help that the best weapon for that fight (The regular swords I found easiest to hit him with) I didn't have upgraded very much (I used the gauntlets for face punching awesomeness)

I tried fighting him alot and then gave up for a while, came back then beat him after a few attempts.

Probably Flamelurker in Demon's Souls.

Unpredictable, strong, fast, becomes even faster after taking some damage.

There were harder bosses in other games, but so far only Demon's Souls has had real difficulty, my deaths against Flamelurker weren't because the RNG said "fuck you" and killed me in some cheap way.

Any modern fighting game. Like, I understand you have to make the bosses hard, but making them cheat is a little much...

Of the top of my head I'd say the final boss from Rogue Galaxy. A living space ship that each of your 8 or so characters has to fight a section of, one on one. The entire thing isn't especially hard, but if you die on one of them, you have to go back to before the previous boss before the final boss and fight that again.
I guess it's more the most frustrating boss than the hardest.

Oh, or Freya from Star Ocean 3.

Dennis Eisenberg from Lost Planet 1, it's so annoying to get such an awesome piece of gear that is so massively inferior to the enemy's.

I can think of two-
The findal boss from UN Squadron. It was some kind of Magneta furture looking battleship. It was hard since it can shoot out alot of stuff so it was hard to focus on not getting hit.

Dullaham from Golden Sun: The Lost Age. He had a spell that reduse your characters stats to it's lowest and he can summon the second most powerful summon in the game.

Um, no, the Cestus are easily the best weapons for that fight, they do the most damage and it's essentially a beat 'em up.

Hardest? Fucking False King Allant. Yes I get it, you have infinite fucking health. STOP IT.
