Most recently, Shadow Mitsuo from Persona 4 was immensely annoying. He not only has attacks capable of having your party's HP, but can hit the weakness and KO one character at a time before you have a chance to react. He isn't the worst boss, but his HP is high enough to make the fight about 45 minutes long. This is mainly because he literally creates another boss as a shell... which you have to beat up around three times.
That was satisfying to be done with.

If we're counting MMOs, pre-nerf M'uru hands down.
Hogger...
But seriously, pre-nerf Cthun...

not mmo would probably be... I cant remember but I wanna say it was from the nintendo 64...
Do you mean pre-FIX C'thun? When he was literally impossible due to bugs? Cause once he was fixed he wasn't so bad. M'uru was doable, just ABSURDLY BRUTAL.
Same difference...

Most of the bosses in the Monster Hunter games tend to give me a tough run my first few times trying to kill them. Khezu and Tigrex especially took me at least 5 attempts to kill. Tigrex actually made me quit the game when I realized that in order to get strong enough equipment to progress I'd need to start farming him.

Also, the helicopter fight in Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker was an absolute *****. Mostly because the actual pilot didn't give a shit about his ground forces and would fires missiles at you while you were surrounded by his mates.
"Friendly Fire? What's that? Oh you mean that thing where I hit my men with missiles? You mean I'm not supposed to do that? Kinda hard for me to tell that my men aren't expendable when you gave me 20 of the buggers and a helicopter to command just to kill one man."

The old Korean guy at the end of True Crime: Streets of L.A. You fist fight him in the wreckage of a downed plane...And I remember him being an utter C%&T! :)
I'd gone through the entire game never using block in fist fights. I get the idea that if I had learnt it properly, I'd have done better against him.

I'd have to say any boss from Ninja Gaiden (the first one on X-box) other than the second followed closely by the final boss from Jet Force Gemini (I can't remember his name). Also, most of the bosses from DMC 2, 3 and 4 rank up there fairly high on the difficulty meter.

Dullaham from Golden Sun: The Lost Age. He had a spell that reduse your characters stats to it's lowest and he can summon the second most powerful summon in the game.
Must agree with this, took me 2 hours with most of my party at level 70 to finally get him.

Though for Iris, it was definitely worth it.

Any modern fighting game. Like, I understand you have to make the bosses hard, but making them cheat is a little much...
God damn Shao Khan in the new Mortal Kombat is fucking impossible to beat with Raiden. God damn story mode.

Probably Flamelurker in Demon's Souls.

Unpredictable, strong, fast, becomes even faster after taking some damage.

There were harder bosses in other games, but so far only Demon's Souls has had real difficulty, my deaths against Flamelurker weren't because the RNG said "fuck you" and killed me in some cheap way.
I'm going to agree with this...because I insisted on fighting Flamelurker with a sword...

Just spam Raiden's thunderbolt. Dunno what it's called, but it's pretty much the same thing as Liu Kang's fireball. Not the classiest way to do it, but it turns Khan into a pushover.

Thanks. I do not care about classiness though with Shao Khan. I just want him dead.

Probably not the hardest boss fight but certainly the most annoying for me was in Kingdom Hearts 2, Demyx boss battle, god I hated him so much on my first play through; and his constant battle shout "WATER" and "LIGHTNING" ugh...

Despite the intense population of "hardest boss" fights, I think I should contribute to at least one of them. Now seems as good a time as any.

I'd wager that the hardest boss I've ever faced is the only boss I have yet to attempt and not beat, which would be the twin purple, electric worms from the sewers in Ninja Gaiden for the X-Box. It's the only boss I've ever actually thrown my controller from frustration with.

There have been a lot of bosses I've had an inordinate amount of trouble with, though. Miguel from Chrono Cross handed my ass to me for a couple weeks before I got the better of him. The Demon Wall in FFVII and FFIV both got the better of me for a while. The final boss from Panzer Dragoon Orta was a bit of a frustrating experience. This is not to mention all the 16-bit era games of unforgiving difficulty.

The Illusion Of Gaia, Mu. I hated those freaking vampires. To this day I can't remember any boss fight that caused as much frustration as that tag-team of doom did me back in '95.

Seems to be a lot of ninja gaiden in this thread, why am I not surprised??

Anyway, I got a personal favorite(?) from that game as well. The first encounter with Doku, as boss 3 or something. You're not even supposed to beat him, just take a couple of hits and watch a cutscene, then go on playing. He can be defeated however, but it's definitely the hardest thing I've ever done. On normal. I don't even want to think of how it is on the harder settings.
