Well in recent boss fights I would say the two hardest I've played have been..

Dawn of War 2 Chaos Rising: The final mission on chaos rising on Primarch difficulty, fighting the Great Unclean One.

Dawn of War 2: The Last Stand - Wave 20.

Also various Final Fantasy bosses were just insane.

I believe the hardest boss in video game history is Lord British (I'm not sure if that's actually his name) From one of the ultima's. He is a final boss, and I read somewhere that he has only been killed a few times. I'm not sure how updated this information is, but he may of been nerfed since this was wrote.

It took me and my brother something like 17 attempts to beat RAAM on insane. TWAS LOOOOOOOONG!!!
Still, felt good afterwards.

Also whenever I heard LuBu's music on hard, I ran for the hills.

Online game? WoW - Lich King 25 Man Hard mode (pre - nerf) couldn't be downed, even by the best players in the world,
after nerf, still hard as hell! took months, and the feeling of downing it is still making me happy :')

In a console game...i think Shao Kahn on Master difficulty on Mortal Kombat (9) is pretty damn hard

The chapter three miniboss in Ikaruga. I think he's harder than the final boss. He doesn't shoot many projectiles, but he does mess with your concentration. He has four satellites, two of each polarity, that constantly shoot a laser stream. The satellites slowly rotate in and out of the battlefield. He also has a cannon in the center of him that steadily shoots bullets of alternating polarity. Like I said, not many projectiles. What makes him hard is the satellite speed versus the cannon speed. They're so different it's extremely hard to focus on both. If you focus on the satellites you get torn to pieces by the cannon. If you focus on the cannon the satellites creep up on you.

If you think you're going to be smart and quickly destroy the satellites, the boss has a surprise for you - More and more bullets from the cannon. I've never been able to beat him without dying at least once. But I can dodge everything until he goes away without dying.

Reika (aka: The Blue Lady) from Fatal Frame 3; hands down, unequivocally the toughest and frustratingly difficult boss in games. Also, maybe Scarlet from SH: Homecoming but that was more a gaming mechanics problem then a legitimate challenge

Also, and this is probably out of left-field, like my Fatal Frame reference, but in Final Fantasy Tactics the first zodiac boss you fight - the big, fat Cardinal monster that puts your whole battle hardened team to sleep or in fits of insanity if you even looked at him. Yeah...that was hard.

Actually, FFT had all kinds of crazy hard bosses - FUN game, hell ya, but criminally hard bosses, oh yeah.

The last boss on Final Fantasy 13. The twat was hard because of the usual extra form crap and then to top it off the learning curve. I pretty much bested every enemy pretty easily till I got to him

No no no, you all got it wrong. All of those mentioned are piss easy compared to this one. This boss battle is THE hardest boss battle of all time, and there is NO WAY you can defeat this boss on your first attempt. Check this out

legend of the dragoon had some pretty epic boss fights.. i remember one on a pirate ship against the captain and eight of his zombie/ghsot pirate crew. lets jsut say if you didnt time your combos exactly right and you didnt kill them in an exact order they would ALL respawn and fuck your shit. it took me 3 hours and alot of replays to figure that out.

Probably Yunalesca from FFX. Had to go back and grind forever to get strong enough to beat her. Or Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts.
I agree with both, but for some reason Seymour first fight always gave trouble the first part is easy, but when he starts double casting then he like "You bore now you can all die"!

Final boss from Blacksite. The guy was insane. (and I mean it. the developers really failed the balancing of that fight. In a FPS, the final boss shouldn't be able to take damage like a boss from a MMORPG, the playtypes are far from the same.)
Oh hey, another person that enjoyed that game! I remember not enjoying the final fight. A boss battle that consists of circle-strafing a guy that's running in circles right behind you in a tiny circular arena while you repeatedly shoot him with every gun you have for 10 minutes isn't exactly fun. The other boss battles were pretty cool.

Probably Flamelurker in Demon's Souls.

Unpredictable, strong, fast, becomes even faster after taking some damage.

There were harder bosses in other games, but so far only Demon's Souls has had real difficulty, my deaths against Flamelurker weren't because the RNG said "fuck you" and killed me in some cheap way.
This. Every time I fought him, I had to glitch to actually beat him. If I got him to where he couldn't smack my ass down, I was golden, otherwise, I got a general "fuck you" from Demon's Souls.

Stage 5 boss on touhou UFO, lazers, lazers...curving, argh! Also one fucking spellcard ive never ever managed, even on normal, i just auto bomb it now.
Flamelurker as melee i didnt find too difficult, was no real RNG involved i just played it really safe so i didnt have to go down the god damn pit again, found Maneater to be far more frustrating, pushing me off all the time. :(
Also had MAJOR trouble with Evrae in FFX, i never ever grind and just skip through the story, but that boss made me grind, don't know what the problem was with the 3rd Seymour fight or Yunalesca, found Evrae miles worse. :p
Also remember some sperm boss from an R-type game, that took forever aswell...

That Domz high priest at the end of Beyond Good & Evil was annoying because of the control changing thing in the final stage of the battle.
That wasn't too bad I thought, you more or less had to memorise a certain sequence of attacks then its as good as dead. It took me ages to figure out how to dodge its attacks from above though.
