I actually find this funny, because I got the same story from a friend. I seriously popped that thing out on accident first time, and beat it in one try. Had no idea it was supposed to be hard...

As for me, its still Dullahan from Golden Sun 2. Because I refuse to use a scripted tactic to beat that thing...

Hardest boss I've not? I can't remember, proberly blanked out of the mind for the greater good.

Not NPC's, but I find many of the top competitors in Starcraft II beta difficult at times.

Aside from Thor needing some more base armor, everything is mostly balanced-- there's a solid counter for everything I can think of. That's partly why it's so difficult. The other part: the players there are just good.

Top-tier Starcraft players are the only challenge I've had in a game apart from competitive WoW arena. As far as a computer opponent goes, I can't think of anything which challenges the mind. Most computer opponents are static, so I tend to avoid them. A good player is rarely static, though.

Edit: After fighting in the platinum ladder in SC2 beta, I certainly think everyone there deserves a boss title. :3

the autosave feature, I was playing COD2 and at this part where you snipe a top the silo, the damn game "auto saved" right before a mortar hit me so I was stuck in this irreversible cycle of spawning and blowing up for about 30 mins before I gave up and restarted the game

Yes, Sephiroth on KH1 is the hardest boss in video game history IMO... I've never faced a harder boss.

Never play Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix then, Terra will murder you, like he has done to me hundreds of times. I will beat him one day.
OT: The hardest enemy I have faced is...The in-game Camera. It seems to have fun annoying players by pointing in the wrong direction.

It's only hard if you level.

What level were you upon fighting it, because I was 56 or so with basic weapons.

Yeah, that was an eventful fight.

This is Nancy-mi847j from Tekken 6. A massive robot that can shoot missiles, gatling guns, and lasers. And if that fails, it can CARVE A DAMN HOLE UNDER YOU, instantly killing you, while you stand there punching at it like a a**hole. And it's a sub-boss and you only get one shot a playthrough, meaning if you want the achievement/trophy for beating it you'll have to start over if/when you die. Ridiculous.

I havent actually tried in ages because my PS2 died but the Witch King in Lord of the Rings: The Third Age. It took me hours to kill him and then right before i reached the save point I got into a random encounter, got killed by some easterlings, and had to do the WHOLE FUCKING THING AGAIN! I ragequit and didn't even want to look at that game for months.

I know your pain... well kinda, I remember taking my level 60 squall against this guy in the story and getting absolutely owned. Heck even now, I wouldn't take my level 100 squall against this guy, I know I probably wouldn't get past the first round let alone all three fights against him.

He seemed really easy to me, the angel guy after that was somewhat harder though since he switches from being invulnerable to kicking your ass to buffing himself to healing himself and back again and also casts Doom, so you need to switch paradigms like crazy to slowly build your chains before having to heal yourself again. It's a battle of extremes pretty much, all ravager to all medic to all out commando when he is staggered. Pretty fun, got my strategy down in the third try.

For me, multiplayer is definitely M'uru in WoW before he got nerfed, wiped for 3 weeks on him, got him down, then they nerfed him. Single player probably King Allant and Flamelurker from Demon's Souls, especially Flamelurker is a pretty fucking deadly but brilliant "dance".

I used Zidane, i found the combo of Grand Leathel, followed by a Free Energy up the ass worked well.

I've had problems with some boss fights but it was so long ago that it was actually something that was modestly hard, and i was too young to learn how to kill it.

And yes, metroid's boost guardian... how can anyone forget...

Fucking Beowulf from Devil May Cry 3. That guy practically had me in tears of rage. Theeeeeen I got the end and faced Vergil.

I gave up after three tries, went back, played the game on easy.

I would say Emerald WEAPON from FFVII. I had just defeated Ultima WEAPON for the first time and I felt invincible, then I got in the submarine and noticed this green thing that looked like Diamond Weapon wich I had dominated. So I rsuhed into him thinking my victory was certain and got my arse handed to me in so short a notice I didn't even have time to yell "WTF?"

Moral: NEVER think you have the upper hand in a FF-game. They will always have something that's just inhuman waiting somewhere
