Yes I have played this game, no I did not beat this boss; but I can finish some Touhou games so its not like I am completely new to bullet hell.

I'd have to vote for that first Chozo Guardian in Super Metroid, that came in after the morph ball bomb power-up. Why? Well, just because I was so young at the time, plus I always played games on a keyboard, save for a few SNES games on my friends' consoles. I was never good with a controller or gamepad. I'm better these days, but then? Forget it.

To me one of theses bosses is the spider in the original devil may cry...
Seconded. That spider is ridicously difficult.

I'm going retro here.

The first boss in the SNES game Illusion of Gaia is absolutely ridiculous being so early in the game. He's also really late for a first boss, with the player playing a good couple of hours before you eventually come across him. The player is completely unprepared for an encounter like that after spending hours fighting only normal enemies, and there's no hint or anything about how to fight him or what his weaknesses might be.

Not a fun boss in the least bit to tackle.

The first boss of Devil May Cry was actually fairly difficult for a first boss.
Yeah I had trouble with that guy too... The first boss who ever gave me problems was the 3rd bowser in super mario 64.

I;m going to have to say the first actual boss in Eternal Darkness. No, not that stupid Horror in the thirs level, I mean that giant Guardian thing with the instant kill atack, the shrinking battlefield, and the fact that it forces you to stand still for five seconds whilst you charge an attack. That said, this "first" boss is about halfway through the game, so maybe that's to be expected.

Nine Toes from Borderlands. Not necessarily hard, but annoying as hell because of his stupid dogs he sends out at you. For a first boss, its kinda hard when your guns aren't the best. Maybe i'm just bad at the game, i dont know.

I never thought there was a first boss thats was terribly difficult.
I guess the first boss monster from the original Pikmin?
Again, i really dont see how a first boss can give trouble.

I had the same problem, his dogs were kicking my ass after I dropped him with 4 sniper rounds to the head. Although in my defense, I was still laughing from when his name comes up it also says, "Also, he has three balls." It caught be completely off guard and I was laughing for a good two minutes.

I didn't find Nine-Toes that bad. Bonehead, on the other hand...

Does the first encounter with anything count?
If so, Etrian Odyssey II. I VERY NEARLY died on the first floor, and I had to pull all the crazy tricks in the book just to escape the labyrinth alive and not have to start the whole game over.
Plus, the first mini-boss kicked the crap out of me in 1 turn.
And the first boss owned my overleveled team the first few times.

As far as non-RPGs go, I'd have to say Devil May Cry 1 and 3 had equally devastating first bosses. In DMC1, I had to retry over 8 times to beat the spider thing, and in 3, I had to retry around 6 times to beat Cerebus. D:

oooooh yah, Bonehead was a ***** to kill my first play through, too. But i got the last laugh because i would go back to that area where he spawns and run him over with the car. sweet, sweet vengeance.

Anytime a game starts with a boss or a battle seems like a dick move to me. The hardest first boss was probably... Choas0 from Sonic Adventure 1. I played it a long time ago and I had to fight to get acquainted with the games wonky controls as well as fighting a boss at the same time.

The first real boss from Lost Odyssey, that gryphon-thingy on the top of the mountain.

Poor Jansen made me use 8/10 of my revive items in a row as the boss would switch targets mid-turn to stomp his freshly-revived face into the dirt.
Lol, it was hard, but i dont think it was that hard, only took me 2 trys, with only one reviving potion. I was quite proud

For me i think it would be the one from Too Human, not the fact that it was hard, but if it had been any game that makes you go back to the start after adying, it would have been so much harder than it actually was.
