Hardest/most frustrating bit of Dark Souls 2?

Most frustrating area is definitely the Shrine of Amana (or was at least, its better now that they've patched it), homing magic bolts combined with restricted movement due to water, and annoying enemies hiding underneath the water that lock on seems to prefer latching onto even when they aren't attacking (thus yanking your attention away from the guys who are attacking) yeah... no thanks. Black Gulch also wasn't very fun due to all the poison statues EVERYWHERE, but at least its a really short area.

As for most frustrating boss for me its a toss up between the Royal Rat Authority and the Darklurker, simply because for both I died just as I killed them (which would have counted just fine in DS1, but doesn't in DS2) meaning I had to do the fights again multiple times. Especially bad for the Darklurker since you have to go through a fairly tough little dungeon every single time you want to fight it, and it costs a humanity to enter said dungeon. Then again the Royal Rat Authority does also have some really stupid hitboxes that make fighting it annoying, and can destroy your equipment with its vomit, so I guess both are equally awful.

Just Shrine of Amana... which is now patched, so I now get to be one of those smug vets who get to say
"I BEAT AMANA DURING 1.02 DAYS! YOU NEWBIES HAVE IT EEEEEASY NOW!" *as I wave my +10 cane*

The rest of the game I breezed through having a blast the entire way, perks to having your first playthrough be a faith build.
If anything NG+ is where everyone should be getting their panties in a knot.

I dare someone to try and solo NG+ anything especially Lost Sinner, cause I aint gunna spoil what Lost Sinner has in store for your casual candy asses...
Yay I get to be one of those vets as well! Damn kids get off my lawn, in my days our movement restricting water was poisonous!

Also Lost Sinner is the only great old one that gets a significant upgrade in NG+, the others all just hit harder and have more health. Old Iron King in particular remains an incredibly disappointing fight.

Edit: Also man its really weird seeing what bosses people had trouble with compared to me, I think I've died a total of once each to the Ruin Sentinels and Smelter Demon (I've played through NG+ now), Smelter demon in particular I find to be a pretty fun fight as it gives you plenty of time to heal between attacks and telegraphs them well in advance so dodging is easy, you just have to watch your health when he starts being on fire. In the meantime I died something like six times to Nashandra on my first run, since for whatever reason I had trouble getting the timing down for dodging her scythe.

Run to the Iron King? There's a bonfire right before him with only 1 turtle knight between you and the fight.. unless you missed that sneaky ladder.
beg ur pardon

u wut

say agin

wait...

wait...

...

So you're telling me I made a run from post-smelter bonfire.

About six times.

Hm.

I'll uh, I'll go play some casul game for a bit and gather my thoughts.
Yep. In the room with the spiked panels on the walls and the installation of the fire breathing statues right before the door that leads out to the Iron King area there's a ladder you can climb. It leads up to a bonfire and something else that's pretty useful for the area if you want to explore a little more. It's easy to miss the ladder amongst the blowing fire, turtle knights and fence like walls.

Shrine of Amana wasn't bad if you had a decent bow and know what cover is. Though the magic spells are too good at homing.

Valley of Defilement 3.1 is the most annoying area by a longshot, followed by the Black Gulch, with that area where you drop down with 8 of those explody cunts being very near.

Due to me not having XBL, I've been forced to solo my way through. I beat all the bosses up to Lost Sinner no problem, but I can't beat her or the Flexile Sentry :(

You can summon Lucatiel for both fights, in the Wharf she appears right in the shortcut you opened up, and in Sinner's Rise she appears right where the elevator drops you off. I can't guarantee she'll be any help (for me against the Sentry she just kept trying to run back out the fog door while he pummeled her) but she's a good distraction if nothing else.

How many times can you summon her, or can you do it whenever you want? I have like 50 or something Effigys :p

You can summon her as many times as you want, provided you've talked to her of course and she isn't dead.

So if she is low on health in the fight, should I kill myself so she doesn't die?

Smelter's weird in that he was annoying and frustrating the first time around but since he's been not all that hard for me.

Amana is of course a frustrating area. Equipment getting broken, mages being dicks, and a boss that isn't really that challenging but if you fuck up you die basically immediately.

Also whenever the exploding zombies are around that's just frustrating.
I spent like an entire day getting my ass kicked by Smelter before saying 'fuck it' and checking Youtube. Turns out you're supposed to run towards his sword when he goes to swing it. -_-

After that it was just a case of avoiding his overhead swing and jump attack.

No that doesn't matter, I meant so long as you haven't killed her yourself when running into her in the world, if she dies as a phantom it doesn't matter.

Oh, awesome! THAT WOULD HAVE MADE MY RUN OF THE GAME SO MUCH EASIER.

Is there anyone you can summon for the Flexile Sentry? Those stupid ninja things keep killing me.

Lucatiel again, I mentioned above that her sign appears in the Wharf right in that shortcut gate you open up. With both fights don't expect her to be useful beyond being a distraction though. The last update buffed her defense so she's a little better now but her AI is still really stupid.

That's all I need. Get rid of the assholes that spawn, then smackdown the boss.

Bear in mind that if you want the Luca achievement and are trying to finish her story and get her equipment the normal way, she does need to survive through at least 3 of the 4 fights you summon her for. Otherwise, yeah, she can just be used as a temporary distraction/meat shield.

I haven't gotten to The Shrine of Amana yet, but so far there haven't really been any sections that stood out to be as being particularly hard. Certainly nothing on the level of the Anor Londo archers. I suppose the first Pursuer Knight battle gave me the most trouble, since all my gear was shit. But even that became easy once I got the parry timing down. Smelter was also hard but also optional, so once I picked up a shield with 100% physical and fire defense, I went back and easily killed him.

I guess the most annoying parts of this game have either been Brightstone Cove or the area at the bottom of the pit, where you have to walk through a gauntlet of statues spitting poison at you

Edit:
Just got to The Shrine of Amana and yeah, I can definitely see what people mean. it's pretty annoying but not because of the enemies. The enemies don't hit hard and die really quickly. But what is freaking infuriating are the difficult to see paths. All of my deaths so far have been from falling off the edge because the path is so damn hard to see!

Beat them both first time. Luca survived the Sentry but died towards the end of Sinner. Thanks for the heads up!
