I found the Ruin Sentinels and Smelter Demon to be the most frustrating boss battles. But the most annoying level has to be the Shrine of Amana, those damn mages in the water really ruined my day.

Hmm..

Hardest Boss - Smelter was probably the hardest, but I actually really enjoy the fight itself so as much as I died on it, I can't really call it out as being too frustrating.

Frustrating Boss - Giant King. Not at all truly difficult but because of where you fight it and how big it is it's just a pain. You can't see more than it's ankles most of the fight so you're just guessing at when to block/dodge. Oh, and you're on a time limit.

Hardest Area - Amana easily. Once you know what you're doing and if you have any ranged options at all, it's fairly straightforward but getting to that point can be very rough. Playing this zone with a super tanked up melee only build with no real magic defense and low movement speed? Gah, that would give me nightmares.

Frustrating Area - Brightstone Cove. Once you know your way through, it's actually a very short area to boss rush but exploring it at all is just a huge pain. So many one way paths and the mages with their endlessly slowly seeking homing spells. The spiders with their BS hit boxes. The spider infested hollows with their last gasp nearly unavoidable melee attack. Just ugh.

Smelter's weird in that he was annoying and frustrating the first time around but since he's been not all that hard for me.

Amana is of course a frustrating area. Equipment getting broken, mages being dicks, and a boss that isn't really that challenging but if you fuck up you die basically immediately.

Also whenever the exploding zombies are around that's just frustrating.

Absolutely. I'm not sure which variety I hate the most, but they're just terrible enemies in any flavour.

The fight itself wasn't too hard, it was the damn fire catapults that kept getting in my way and taking off giant chunks of my health. The time limit didn't even bother me

I found those Pyromancers in the Undead Crypt and the dragon guardians in the shrine area just before the dragon covenant to be my bane of existence. Played a sorcerer on my first play through so Amana was not that bad, however I know I am going to hate life when I get there with my 2-hander naked warrior run.

I've only been to the Forest of Fallen Giants, Heid's Tower of Flame, and the place you get to by the eagle in FoFG but I feel like this will be the hardest part of the game because this is the part of the game that you have shit stats and shit equipment. Once I get a nice heavy weapon and some nice heave armor I should start destroy regular enemies and only rage at bosses. I'm just guessing this because it is how it worked in DS1.

Hardest boss was The Old Iron King for me because I kept getting knocked into the lava. Argh! Smelter Demon wasn't my favorite either because I had to summon that Lucatiel girl so I could get the trophy (because I missed her for The Lost Sinner).

Hardest area though is the optional Dark Covenant area. Very dark. Holes everywhere. Phantoms. Heavy KNIGHT phantoms. And worst of all, unable to summon help or be summoned. You are on your own. Ugh...

That's no girl! That's her brother!

Dude just looks like a lady. (queue music)

OT:
Uhhhh........ Hm. I actually don't have one yet, but I also haven't gotten that far. I think that the run to the Iron King was complete bullshit, but I'm sure some other area will take its place as that particular peeve. Based on my dying, I should hate the Smelter Demon, but I actually really enjoyed it! Also the weapon from his boss soul is pretty rad looking.

I hate Velstadt. Incredibly annoying boss, especially once he charge up halfway through the fight. It basically becomes a war of attrition (for me) at that point, and if you fuck up once, he does his overhead smash and pretty much kills you. There aren't really any tricks to make it better, the NPC summon barely helps, and getting to the boss is incredibly annoying in and of itself. Still haven't beaten the fucker, considering giving up at this point because I just can't stand it. -_-

Run to the Iron King? There's a bonfire right before him with only 1 turtle knight between you and the fight.. unless you missed that sneaky ladder.

The only issue I personally had with Velstadt was the gauntlet before him. Not really hard but such a slog if you happen to die, and the Syan knights right at the fog gate make running past without taking damage very tough. One tip for the gauntlet, in cause you're not aware of it yet, is to drop down from the staircase ledge in the long room leading up to Velstadt's room. There's a hollow down there that rings a bell to summon the Leydia pyromancers. If you kill the hollow before he rings the bell (just be sure not to ring it yourself while fighting him) then you only have the Syan Knights to deal with. It's still a slog, but not quite as bad.

As for Velstadt himself, the only real suggestion I can give is to roll his attacks. He has slow timings on his swings that make him tricky to dodge since you have to dodge later than normal, but his hits drain so much stamina and cause so much knockback if you just block you'll almost never have a good window to attack. Oh and once he starts with the dark magic, try to bait it out as much as possible by staying a little far away from him. His dark magic attacks take him forever to cast so once he starts the animation, two hand your weapon, run in towards him, circle behind while he's trying to orient on you and go nuts. You can drain the second half of his life bar very quickly by doing this. Maybe even keep a pine resin or something on your hot bar to use specifically when he starts doing this.

Getting to the third bonfire in Shrine of Amana, easily. It has so much working against you. Water that slows you down (and which you can drown in), 3 mages rapid firing those spells that are very difficult to avoid, and five melee enemies that you can aggro while you're at it. Luckily a bow or summoning the nearby NCP makes it pretty trivial. Second is getting to the boss in Shrine of Amana.

I don't understand why people have problems with Smelter Demon. I beat him on my first or second attempt. He has nothing on Lost Sinner.

Uhhh I just ran all the way down one side, behind the pillars then zigzagged through the knights without any problems >_>

I would have figured that the halberd/spear knights right next to the fog would have tagged you as you went through. That happened to me the one time I tried so I just fought them after that. Go figure. *shrug*

It took very, very precise timing and dodging. :p

You will be happy to know that as of the patch on the 11th that area is a fair bit easier thanks to the mages getting nerfed. The resulting tears from elitist neckbeards have been delicious.

OT:
Worst boss: Smelter Demon. Not in any way an interesting fight, and wouldn't even be hard if he didn't start ignoring your shield about halfway through the fight. Thankfully STR builds can use the gyrm greatshield to make the fight trivial and everyone else can just skip him.

Worst area: The gutter. I would love to have seen the meeting that conceived this pain in the ass. "Hey guys you know what would be cool? If we took the worst parts of blighttown and Tomb of Giants and mashed them together!"

Some of the most annoying parts for me were:

Ruin Sentinels and Belfry Gargoyles: Seriously, even with two phantoms assisting me it took me enough tries that enemies to the boss stopped respawning. In the final encounter I managed to agro them so they kept off the phantom mage I summoned.

Smelter Demon: Again, kinda annoying due to his constant fire damage. Plus keeping Lucatiel alive was annoying.

The Gutter/Black Gulch: More tedious than anything. Having to deal with the darkness in the former and the constant poison in the other were just busywork to get through rather than a legit challenge.

Shrine of Amana: Okay, seriously, FUCK this place. It's rife with artificial difficulty whether it be the near-invisible pitfalls, the water reducing your mobility to a crawl, or the irritating spellcasters who are shooting at you from goddamned Jupiter. It's just a chore to get through..

Those are my most irritating moments. Admittedly they're a lost less irritating than the worst parts of Dark Souls. There was nothing as annoying as the Capra Demon,Blighttown and the Swamp, Sen's Fortress, the sniper gallery in Anor Londo, or New Londo.

Just Shrine of Amana... which is now patched, so I now get to be one of those smug vets who get to say
"I BEAT AMANA DURING 1.02 DAYS! YOU NEWBIES HAVE IT EEEEEASY NOW!" *as I wave my +10 cane*

The rest of the game I breezed through having a blast the entire way, perks to having your first playthrough be a faith build.
If anything NG+ is where everyone should be getting their panties in a knot.

I dare someone to try and solo NG+ anything especially Lost Sinner, cause I aint gunna spoil what Lost Sinner has in store for your casual candy asses...
