I hope nobody else posted this one but look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQZuidKexBQ

My eyes hurt everytime I watch it.
It appears at least ONE person here appreciates the fact that the ONLY bosses in video games that deserve the description "hard" are found in danmaku ("bullet hell") games. Such as:
Here [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJ5q29sEb2w]
Or here. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fblc0PRc8Po&feature=related]
You might actually have seen this one before. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGNSdcy-apU]
Ugh. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Nb5Ohbt1Sg&feature=related]
Oh the pain! [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gz_71veAzzU&feature=related]
All other bosses in all other games in all other genres are "mildly vexing" at best.

The lone hammer brother behind the brick on the last level of Super Mario Bros 1... he made me cry when I was little because I could NEVER get past the bastard.

Fusion Dragon, Golden Sun. My patience was as ragged as a fat man's underwear after a marathon, and the only reason I was still playing was dogged determination to finish. Took me 12 straight attempts because I was playing so sloppy. May not have been the toughest, but it was certainly my least pleasurable boss experience.
Is that the one from the first or from the second game?

Also, Dullahan was A LOT tougher. I wonder how people would beat him without importing a GS1 savegame, I myself NEEDED Granite and Flash (and Shade, but you get this one with Piers) in order to beat him. And when he suddenly resets all your Djinni, you just know you're fucked and are going to take a few casualties. The final boss battle isn't all that hard if you go in prepared (again, all 3 barrier Djinni, the back row with all Djinni set, so you can cast Iris to get the downed front row back up should that happen)

... I want to play through these games a fifth time now, gah.

Metroid Prime: Meta Ridley

Ohmygodhe'sonetoughsonufabitch.

He doesn't glitch or have any bad design choice, all his attacks are both readable and avoidable. That doesn't stop him being the most difficult boss in the last ten or so years of gaming.

After him Metroid Prime itself was a cakewalk.

If I could access YOutube in work I'd have to post a vid of the final boss in Probotector, or the Giant Brian from Metal Slug. They're both 1 hit kill games and there's shit flying everywhere...

-> Demon Gate - Final Fantasy VII - PS1
On my first play through I found this boss difficult, but on subsequent visits I haven't had any problems. (Side Note: Wasn't there a special tactic or something that killed him easily, throwing an item or casting a curative magic against him?)

I think time magic worked against him such as slow, I can't remember so don't quote me on that
For me it was all about the limit breaks

The basic strategy (for me at least) was to cast Slow on the boss then caste Haste on your party. Then just beat him senseless.

If we're talking about cosmo canyon all you had to do was cast a pheonix down his way you might not hit him the first time but once it does he dies automatically, as with other undead monsters.
No. Temple of ther ancients.

EDIT: Sorry for the double post.
I found the demon gate had resistance to the elements so using non elemntal attacks worked best.

Really? I thought he was annoying due to his shield that you had to knock down. He was easy enough once I got the aerial stinger-like move to get to him quicker, and once I learned his patterns. But It was annoying at first. In contrast I found Dante to be easy enough. Just got close and used the throw moves really.
I can usually get a few good hits on him after he uses that ground wave move where he yells out "Repent!" or "You will fail!" He was a hell of a pain in the ass on Dante Must Die difficulty though.

Him: Repent!
Nero: (Snatches shield)
Him: (Flies out of range, one of those flying blade thingies charges up)
Nero: (Double jumps to avoid flying blade thingy)

Dante was a pain in the ass because he had a seemingly random chance to dodge/get out of your throws. Plus his sword attacks were faster than yours. Occasionally I'd counter his Stinger with a well-timed Shuffle (where Nero dashes back, then dashes forward and attacks), but it would do a piddly amount of damage.
Oh yes Dante in DMC 4 was really hard for me too until I discovered how to beat him easily. In the room where you fight him there should be some broken pillars. Go there, wait for Dante and spam your grab attack. That's how I beat him.
Hmm, I'll have to try that. I stopped playing DMC4 because I couldn't beat him.

I just remembered two shit hard bosses, the two extra bosses from FFV, Omega and Shinryuu. Omega couldn't be hit with weapons (instant miss) had permanent reflect on, countered every move of yours with one of his own, usually a missile which halved your health AND confused you, had an annoying ray move which dealt 4000-5000 damage to every party member and was generally insane.
Shinryuu was found in a treasure chest in the last place, and opened (before you got a chance to even attack) with a move that dealt 6000-7000 damage to everyone and could use that whenever he wants to. AUUUGHHH! I don't think I ever beat those extra ones
Yeah, those guys were pretty brutal- FFV in general had some tougher bosses than Square's normal; even NeoExDeath can be kinda tough unless you cheese him with the methods mentioned below or grind a fair bit. It's been a while but IIRC the way I beat Shinryuu was to make everyone a Lancer equipped with the Thief's ability to always strike first, and have everyone just continually jump. If you're lucky you can avoid the subsequent Tidal Waves and take him down with no losses at all (he'll survive 10 to 12 jumps if you're at a decent level). For Omega you can use the cheesy Summoner-Mime combo to off him in two/three rounds (again, IIRC).

Apparently the GBA remake has a lot of tough new uber-bosses too, I haven't tried it. Also a footnote towards another SoM boss. This one I've never beaten, but never really grinded or tried too hard to beat either: the Black Rabite.

Skeith in .HACK//INFECTION. The only way I beat him was to buy 99 Revives and just revive my party members as they died while I stayed far away from him. Every other boss I killed in one hit.

Alpha-152 from DOA4... Not only do you have to beat her once, but you have to beat her for all but like 4 people in the whole damn game!

And the final boss from Megaman Battle Network 4 Red Sun. I cant figure out how to even hit him?!

The hardest boss? Hmmmmm... I would have to say Dante from DMC 4 on hell or hell difficulty.
My favorite would be The End from MGS 3. On my first playthrough i couldn't beat him in time and he died of age. I was so sad that i didn't give him an honorable death that i restarted the entire game just to give him one.

I think i'll have to try that gba remake. I did love FFV, it was the best of the SNES FF titles. Which SoM has the black rabite? I've only really ever played the first SNES title which I loved and the second SNES title (which I hated)
