If so what was it, and why? My own is The Book Thief, for the entirety of the last 50 pages.

I haven't physically cried (no i'm not a stone hearted un-emotional man,I well up just don't cry though)but I was on the verge of tears at numerous points throughout the Sword of Truth series, which for me is the greatest fantasy series put to paper (sorry tolkeinites)

When I was about ten I cried while reading the first Darren Shan book. At the part where he's faking his death and is awake and aware during his own funeral.
It was his sister's reaction that got me. But I was like this big girl when I was ten so whatever.

"The Lovely Bones" made me weep like a child multiple times. You're not a human if you can read it and not shed at least ONE tear.

First time was to Noughts & Crosses by Malorie Blackman; the ink in the last few chapters has begun run in my copy. I am that pathetic...

Damnit, now I know that books gonna have a sad ending...

Probably The Book Thief, eventually. I'm only half way through.

So far -
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
The Silver Sword
(notice a theme)
Actually, those are the only two...

Fool's Fate...
All the second half, a continous stream of tears... :'(
Also Fool's Errand, the last scene with Nighteyes was wonderfully written, I cried both for the sadness and the beauty of the scene.

The finale of the Bartimaeus series. Third book, Ptolemy's Gate, ending thereof. You know the one. If you ever read the series, anyway, which you should.

Also, Discworld. Specifically, Reaper Man. Anything in the last quarter or so that has to do with Death, really.

The Mortal Engines books, especially at the end of the series when...

...Shrike comes across Tom & Hester's bodies. I cried manly tears of sadness.

Also in the Mortal Engines prequel, A Web of Air when...

...Arlo sails off into the sun, never to be seen again.

Dammit, thinking about this stuff is making me well up!

Does it have to be fiction? I shed many tears over Valentino Achak Deng and the plight of child soldiers in What is the What.

I know people who are fathers (especially) but also mothers who cried off and on while reading The Road.
It didn't make me cry personally but I'm sure if I had a son I would be sobbing too.

The one book that I had to put down because I cried was Snow Falling on Cedars. I had just gotten dumped by my first love and the chapter that ended with the line "F-ing Jap *****." made me break down because I knew how much unrequited love can make you want to lash out and blame all your personal problems on that person.
