Maybe it`s just me, but movies seem to be getting significantly worse while TV gets significantly better. The past 10 years or so have produced amazing shows like 24, Dexter, Prison Break, Criminal Minds, Chuck, Burn Notice etc, but not a single movie I`d rather watch than any of these shows. Even really good movies that are WAAAAAAAYY better than 99% of the crap out there like The Dark Knight can`t really contend with the grit, drama, action, and all around coolness that is any 3 sequential episodes of 24. But that`s just my opinion. I`m curious as to how many think the same way about this or think I`m an idiot.

I've found most TV uninspiring unless it contains Joss Whedon writing, or his usual actors, while movies also continue to generally suck. However Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World was awesome in my opinion, and kinda made my year in movies.

Tv and movies are both big piles of shit.
But you can find solid chunks in either of those piles, you just have to know where to look for them.

This. For every good series like House, there's several pieces of shit like 24 and Lost. For every Avatar, there's crap like Vampires Suck and Meet the Spartans

I'm just glad the "Blank Movies" seem to have stopped. I'm counting things like Vampires suck and Meet the Spartans on the same catagory as Epic Movie and others of it's ilk...

I really don't like most of the show you've mentioned. In particular I got bored of 24 during the first season and I think it only got worse from there. Dexter I just find badly written and creepy, Prison Break was boring for me and Chuck got a couple of laughs but beyond that I didn't care enough to keep watching.

The others I haven't seen so I couldn't comment. I don't agree in general anyway. The nineties held just as many crap movies and good tv shows, we've just forgotten the bad and only remembered the good or the truly awful. Sometime in late 2020 someone will probably post a thread saying exactkly the same thing as this.

LOST ain't that bad, at least that's my opinion. It's just hard for newcomers to get into.

I'm gonna say what I say to anyone who complains that movies aren't good anymore: look outside of the west. contrary to popular belief, non english speaking countries do make movies and there are a lot of good ones out there.

TV is actually getting better, with increased use of DVR's and on-demand programming, shit that would have usually been used as filler isn't made anymore (or at least, a shrinking business).

take for example NBC, they have: 30 rock, community, chuck, the office, parks and recreation and probably more that i cant name from the top of my head (then theres stuff like Glee and Modern Family). Lost was the hottest show on air and it wasn't some a-typical sit-com, it was a mystery sci-fi drama.

Thats just my opinion.

You mean it's all shit?

The only thing that has been not eye-wateringly aweful has been Dexter (amazing TV) I can't think of anything else for nearly a decade that can be described as good.

Yeah, this year's movie selection has been crap.

I've been really disappointed...it's literally like there hasn't been Scott Pilgrim, Inception, Splice, Daybreakers, Toy Story 3, a variety of extra family films (Despicable Me for example) and a ton of other films I'm missing.

Seriously, this has NOT been a bad year for movies.

Although I can't comment on American TV, British TV this year's been pretty good as well, neither of them's in decline if you ask me.

TV takes too long.

At least with a movie I know that the end is the end and the likelyhood of a sequal (i.e. 'next episode') is far enough in the future for me not to dwell on it too long.

I've pretty much stopped watching TV with the exception of the news and weather, and some shows like Law and Order SVU and Walking Dead. We should have more zombie shows. XD

It's difficult for anyone who gives a damn about plot to get into. Newcomers or otherwise. I watched the show from Day 1 because one of my buddies insisted, and it's just bad storytelling.

I look at plenty of movies from non english speaking countries. Movies in general have failed to impress me these days with very few exceptions. Most come off as just okay. I don't know about television though. I haven't watched t.v. in so long I have no idea what's on anymore.
