Inception and Toy Story 3 came out this year. And they were phenomenal.

However, in turns of television, well I don't watch it all that often. But when I do, I usually watch Mad Men, Scrubs, or It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Those shows are pretty darn good.

I would mostly agree with you, but that's due to me not paying for cable and only going to people's houses to watch the telly. Those people tend to have good taste in visual stimuli, so I've only seen good shows ... as for me I'm only purchasing tv I want to watch via dvd.

Movies from 2000-2010 were meh in the spectrum. Sure there were some gems, but really I'm more of a gamer and with no TV, I just entertain myself with games.

Yeah, this year's movie selection has been crap.

I've been really disappointed...it's literally like there hasn't been Scott Pilgrim, Inception, Splice, Daybreakers, Toy Story 3, a variety of extra family films (Despicable Me for example) and a ton of other films I'm missing.

Seriously, this has NOT been a bad year for movies.

Although I can't comment on American TV, British TV this year's been pretty good as well, neither of them's in decline if you ask me.
Yup, I agree.
At the end of the day, people probably find telly better since series can last a lot longer than movies, so they can actually do more...you can't really compare the two, their different experiences in my opinion.

But yeah I disagree with the OP, I think it's all been alright. Besides, Peep Show is back ^_^

I've pretty much stopped watching TV with the exception of the news and weather, and some shows like Law and Order SVU and Walking Dead. We should have more zombie shows. XD
Personally I'd prefer a new sci fi show instead. Just because they gave up on Firefly and I'm zombied out right now. I wish they could do something with the premise of something like Anarchy online and make a show with it. I'd watch the shit out of that show. Either that or more weird comedy like Ugly Americans or Tales from the Crypt. Those shows are kind of amusing.

There are good TV series' out there (I love Dexter, Chuck and Prison Break that the OP mentioned), but I can't really see TV as a whole being better than films. For every decent series such as those, there are five completely vacuous 'celebrity' programmes being shown.
The same can be said for movies. Good films are still being made, but there are so many being made, they kind of get lost in the crowd. You just have to wade through the crap to get to the good stuff.
At least, that's how I see it.

Maybe it`s just me, but movies seem to be getting significantly worse while TV gets significantly better. The past 10 years or so have produced amazing shows like 24, Dexter, Prison Break, Criminal Minds, Chuck, Burn Notice etc, but not a single movie I`d rather watch than any of these shows. Even really good movies that are WAAAAAAAYY better than 99% of the crap out there like The Dark Knight can`t really contend with the grit, drama, action, and all around coolness that is any 3 sequential episodes of 24. But that`s just my opinion. I`m curious as to how many think the same way about this or think I`m an idiot.
24, Dexter, Prison Break, and Burn Notice all have one thing in common...

The protagonist is a fucking HORRIBLE actor.

And somehow the show is written around that fact.

Films and TV both have their challenges, primarily running-time and budget respectively, but you've got to look at the good stuff on top of the pile of shit.

It's the same with games too; the high-scoring games we spend forever waiting to come out are a far smaller section than the yearly low-budget cash-ins.

Now that Lost is over though I've not really got much to watch, other than Chuck (which is fantastic) and recently The Walking Dead (which is good).

Well I didn't watch all of the above but tried most of them, and I have no interest in them whatsoever, they just seem like stale reruns of old ideas.
But I agree that movies are getting hell of alot worse, mostly some epileptic CGI spoon deep rush job production, Transformers 2 being the prime example.

As for 24 vs The Dark Knight... well I see it the other way around, but as I mentioned before these TV series never captured my attention.

Tv and movies are both big piles of shit.
But you can find solid chunks in either of those piles, you just have to know where to look for them.
Pretty much that. I've found both have been getting exponentially worse lately.

Well, there is a great deal more of these "reality shows" on TV these days. And these arent quality TV.

I prefer TV series over movies, generally.

After all, they are two totally different things. One shouldn't really compare them.

This trend does not exist, at least not with the movies. I keep thinking there isn't something good being released, but there is, right around the corner.

And all the "SHIT OMG" is just movies for a different audience. They probably think the movies you watch are terrible. If you have a self-righteous attitude about your taste in anti-mainstream movies, the reason people think your movies suck is because the movies are most likely boring or self-righteous themselves.

Some people just want to have a good time at the movies. Relax. Same goes for TV. I don't feel like dropping hours every day into twenty shows that question the human psyche. I'd much rather sit down and have a laugh with Modern Family, or How I Met Your Mother, or watch some competition-based shows like Survivor, Amazing Race, or hockey.

This is the same stupid argument people keep bringing up over games. "GAMES ARE GOING TO SHIT IN A HANDBASKET!!! OMG OMG OMG". The truth is, not every game, movie, tv show, hell even song needs to be deep and meaningful to be good. If it's fun to watch and you derive enjoyment from it, what's so bad about it?

Use your high horse to break out of your narrow box then get off the damn thing because it's stopping you from having fun. Although if you're like most of the zombies that can't enjoy anything without it having the label of "indie" or "foreign" on it, your ass is probably nailed to the seat of the horse so deeply that you can't come off it. I'm sorry for you, then, I truly am.

TV takes too long.

At least with a movie I know that the end is the end and the likelyhood of a sequal (i.e. 'next episode') is far enough in the future for me not to dwell on it too long.
But but but what about "Doctor who"?!

Anyway I like what I watch be it movies or TV so I haven't really noticed this trend.
