Has anyone else picked up Okami?

I've been following Okami's development for a year or two now, and it was finally released last week. I picked it up on Thursday and have played it for an hour or two so far. I'm very, very impressed, and so are the critics [http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps2/okami].

If you own a PS2, I highly recommend at least checking it out. Have a look at some video footage if you can. It's an adventure game in the Zelda mold, but based on Japanese mythology, and with some novel gameplay mechanics. Notably, as an avatar of the god Amaterasu, you can "paint" stuff on the world -- literally, with a giant paintbrush -- and create things, change the weather, or slice your enemies in half.

The fact that flowers bloom in your foosteps is just gravy.

I remember trying it out and talking to the PR at E3 and it was pretty interesting. I'll have to be sure to rent it when I've a little console time on my hands.

Try as I might, I can't find an AUS release date for okami (or even an EU date for that matter). I really want to play this game, it looks great, but if it comes out after guitar hero 2 and the wii launch I have a bad feeling it may get overlooked.

Unless of course the developers pull their heads out of the sand and realise that it would be the perfect game to port over to the wii...........

One of the absolute best games in years. I love Okami. Anyone who loves video games needs to play this game now.

I picked it up, based entirely on the cool cover and the weirdness of the premise. I've spent about 2 hours playing it, and it's a very cool game so far.

It's on my list - I definitely want to pick it up once I wrap up a few of the games I'm playing now.

Absolutely. If it weren't for that damnable bug, this game would be practically perfect. This goes to show you it is art direction, more than GPU state-of-the-art-itude, that makes your game pretty.

Clover is being dissolved [http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2006/10/12/5599]. I guess Okami didn't sell well enough.

:(

Eurogamer says release date in Europe for Okami is February 2007, but it is still to be confirmed.

From what I've read, a lot of the Clover developers wanted to go indy and that's why the studio was dissolved, so this MAY be a good sign.

Yea, if I can't play another Okami game (and by "play" I mean repeatedly hit "bark" until someone threatens to strangle me), I'll be sad. "Bark" is the greatest thing I've found since jumping up and down in City of Heroes.

spewing. thats so far away!! at least it looks like I'll be able to get hold of it, even if i have to import it from the UK.

and now that clover is being dissolved it doesnt look promising for a wii port either.

I don't think it ever looked promising for a Wii port -- IIRC a Clover guy was pretty dismissive of the possibility in an interview.

Having put about 10 hours into it so far, I don't really think it would be any better on the Wii, with the possible exception of widescreen support. I'm not convinced that the Wiimote would make the painting any easier or more accurate.

I got it the day it hit stores in '06. Arguably the best game on the PS2, or at least the highest quality and most accessible.

I'm playing it now, for the first time, and the game speaks to me like no other game. In seductive and sultry tones. It coaxes me to take up my controller and push buttons and manipulate sticks until I'm rewarded with spurt after spurt of colorful and engaging game play. Good times...for sure.

I just noticed that nobody posted on this thing for like a year and a half... a crime against gaming itself! Amaterasu doesn't like you all, either! Bah! Pffth! Ni! Peng! Nuwoonga!

I loved it when I had it but I sold it to help pay for The Orange Box. Probably my favorite PS2 game ever.

Okami for Portal... Actually kind of acceptable... Okami is longer, though. And it is fun being a Shiba Inu on your second run through...
