I've been following Okami's development for a year or two now, and it was finally released last week. I picked it up on Thursday and have played it for an hour or two so far. I'm very, very impressed, and so are the critics [http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps2/okami].
If you own a PS2, I highly recommend at least checking it out. Have a look at some video footage if you can. It's an adventure game in the Zelda mold, but based on Japanese mythology, and with some novel gameplay mechanics. Notably, as an avatar of the god Amaterasu, you can "paint" stuff on the world -- literally, with a giant paintbrush -- and create things, change the weather, or slice your enemies in half.
The fact that flowers bloom in your foosteps is just gravy.
