I met the Sedin brothers and various other Hockey players.
I met tons of singers backstage on a TV gala where I was also singing. Then I've met other TV people at other occasions.

I haven't met any (American) A-list actors or anything like that though.

I did a pub quiz with Ricky Tomlinson (The Royle Family) in Benidorm. He frequents the bar I frequent so we've spoken a few times as I holiday there often and he lives there most of the time :)

Only famous person I can think of meeting (and not just seeing in passing or in concert but actually saying something to) was Duff McKagan, former Bassist and founder of Guns n' Roses. Also the guy that Duff Beer from the Simpsons is named after.

I've met a good few Irish celebrities too, but its not that hard to become a celebrity in a country were everybody knows everybody anyway, but I don't think I've met very many that would be big outside the country...

Willie Randolph (former Yankees second baseman and captain). His parents live about a mile from where I grew up (in Holly Hill, SC), and I spent a good bit of time around them. So I met him a few times. He hooked me up with tickets right behind home plate.

Brett Gardner (current Yankees left fielder). He's from Holly Hill, and is only four years older than me. Graduated with my sister in a small private school, and I think they went to prom together or something. I didn't know him too well since I didn't hang around people in grades higher than mine much. I did throw a ball around with him a few times, though. Had we been one year less apart, we would have played varsity baseball together.

Annie Clark (of the band St Vincent). Met her after a concert here in Charleston.

And...

Bill Murray

He has a home here and is part owner of the minor league baseball team, The Riverdogs. I think everyone who lives here long enough meets him. My roommate actually met him in college while working the Go-Karts at an amusement park here. But I met him during a Riverdogs game. Not surprising, as I go to lots of those.

Patrick Stewart is a family friend.
Proof or it didn't happen. That's a pretty big claim, Captain Picard doesn't break the Prime Directive often.
Assuming you're not going to come and start stalking around my village, sure.

The area he lives in is inside the border of the moor my uncle manages, so we've interacted with him quite a bit over the years. We cleared out a rabbit infestation for him a few months ago.
That might be the least amazing way to interact with Patrick Stewart I have ever heard.
It was an example. As I said, he's a family friend, but also technically a tenant on my uncle's moor, so there are certain duties that come with that.

Anyway, it's certainly better than any Patrick Stewart story you can drum up from personal experience.
Hey, I was just joking around. No need to point out my inadequate number of "meeting Patrick Stewart" stories. Makes me feel insecure.
The incredibly ill-thought out reality TV show filmed here that I had to bear witness to certainly subtracts from the awesomeness of it, so don't feel bad.

Don't worry, Patrick Stewart wasn't involved at all. Though retrospectively, he could have single handedly made it good.
Patrick Stewart can single handedly make anything good. And thats coming from a guy who doesnt even like Star Trek.
In an attempt to explain who he is to my now ex-girlfriend, I showed her a picture of him. She said he looked creepy.

As much as I'd like to pretend otherwise, and thus garner respect, that wasn't why we broke up.

I've met Richard Stallman (big in the open source community. Also a lunatic). Does he count?
Oh God... How did you escape?
I was sufficiently far away. He gave us a talk on the evils of software patents. It was entertaining at least. I also managed to get some free stickers of FSF, GPL and such.

I've met:

Sir Patrick Stewart, who is awesome!
Lance Henriksen, who is awesome too!
Bear McCreary, composer for BSG, The Cape, Sarah Connor Chronicles and more.
Sean Maher and Jewel Staite from Firefly/Serenity

The Bloodhound Gang, years ago, was too drunk to remember it, friends told me.

And almost met Kojima, but he left the signing when i was still in line.
So close.....Yoji Shinkawa was there too.....ah...what could've been....*sadness*

And i met Bassie and Adriaan as a kid, they're very famous in the Netherlands.

A couple musicians. Branford Marsalis, Rufus Reid, John Longstreth (drummer of Origin) and I got to jam with Stuart Heinrich (played with Lou Reed) when I was in high school.

...I don't know if any of those guys count as "famous" though. Well, I tried lol.

Casually passed Natalie Bassingthwaighte on the street in Melbourne once. I don't know to what extent a celebrity extends to but I had a really great 1 to 1 talk with Erik Wolpaw (Writer for Portal 2) at GDC this year.

I got some books signed by Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris and Daniel Dennett. Didn't get to say anything except thanks to them though.

Yes.

Though the list is way too long...
Just search who played at the 013 concert venue in "Tilburg" I'm audio Tech there.
Dude! Porcupine Tree did a concert there that got filmed for DVD. Did you meet any of them?

As for my famous people list, it's rubbish. I met Prince Edward once cause my African Drumming group in middle school did a performance in front of him.
I came very close to meeting Wishbone Ash's guitarist, but I pussied out cause I had nothing for him to sign.
Yeah, I build the backline, soundchecked for them and talked with Gavin for some time about drums and with Colin about our recording equipment and mixing techniques.
Was reaaaally hard not to act like an overzealous fanboy x3

I've met Patrick Stewart, but he's the chancellor of my University so it's not a big deal here. In fact, I almost shoulder-barged him to the ground while trying to catch up with a friend in the student pub. Christ, that was a jarring moment.
That said the man will soon be handing me a degree, which is going to be surreal. Especially because I feel like an Xman already...

I've shaken hands with HRH Prince Charles, HM King Hamad Bin Isa of Bahrain, a few politicians, two Lords, some renowned professors, David Seaman, David Ginola, Tom Jones, Simon Reeve (documentary maker currently on iPlayer), some famous authors, one guy whose name I can't mention and my personal hero, Charlton Heston. I may thoroughly disagree with his attitude toward guns, but he was (still is) my favourite actor and I got a chance to meet him a decade ago :)

Now if only I could shake hands with Arnie, my life would be complete.
