Has/did your school ever pull a dick move?

Our school had a wonderful lateral-thinking-esque dick move.
During breaks our cafeteria was heavily overcrowded. I estimate a good 30% of the students couldn't get a seat. So these kids resorted to sitting on the floor, at least it was better than standing around for the entire break (the floors weren't dirty or anything). Some of these kids complained to their parents that they had to sit on the floor because there were to few seats, these parents in turn complained to the school. The school's solution wasn't to increase the number of chairs, or put some benches against the wall. No their solution was to simply ban sitting on the floor.
*insert facepalm smiley here*

EDIT: (Apparently my dickmove story has nothing on most of the others in this tread.)

Well there was the time I was almost suspended for something that I did not do and then when the person who did do it came right out and said "I did that" he got detention for a day.

Then there was the time my class was taking an exam and the teacher who was watching us noticed that we all had longtitude and latitude backwards and told everyone to change it execpt he was wrong and it cost everyone execpt a few of us who did'nt listen to his dumbass about 20 points.

once I was in the library playing minesweeper or something and the librarian came up to me and said that I had to get off the computer because other people might need to use it execpt there were 5 other computers that no one was using and only 2 other people there.

And the time that we were supposed to have a really big storm so they cancelled school but then nothing happened, so the next time we were supposed to have a big storm they did'nt cancel school and 3 buses went off the road.

That's about all I can remember at the moment, though it seems that my experience was not nearly as bad some other posters

You're not allowed to bring necklaces, rings, or any other such jewelry at my school.

your allowed to bring a gun to school (as long as you have a license, prvoide a good reason to have it (i.e. youre cutting out half way through the day to go hunting), and leave it in your car), but you're not allowed to have jewelry.

Which all and all doesnt necessary bother me, but it seems as a dick move on the whole. and Im sure there are others, but that one stuck out most to me.

Can't even begin to list the number of ways my school sucked more balls than a thousand dollar hooker...but i'll give it a try

1. Was there for 4 years, beginning halfway through year 9 (not sure what that is in american terms but about 12-14 years old) having not been in education for very long and having a massive gap including some very basic stuff that was almost constantly reffered to but never explained I naturally assumed I would fall behind. Within a few months I was caught up proving that it was truly so useful for those who had done the previous 3 years.

2. I was bullied quite harshly throughout this time, physically and emotionally by many many different kids. The school's reaction? They told me I couldn't leave school and sent me to councillor after councillor who always listened to my story, then left me with someone new. And it get's better:

3. I discovered that I could leave school and that it was illegal for them to say I couldn't after quoting this to them they arranged a "meeting" in which they (one year from gcse's) cut my timetable down to only the lessons I wanted to attend, gave me extra lessons with my science teacher that I asked for and it sorta helped but here's the dick part: they reffered to it forever as a "restricted timetable" something they give to the trouble makers and it is now forever on my record that I had that and yes they also put that i was a trouble maker...but wait it gets better again:

4. One of the children bullying me was a racist, now I know this will be hopped on like no bloody tommorow but I am white, british. He was black british and he knew he could get away with anything he wanted because not one teacher would go near him. All the other kids who bullied me at least got shitty little warnings so they knew that I had told. He didn't get anything, and although I was bullied physically I couldn't possibly have fought back or I would have been expelled instantly for hate crime. How wonderful the world is that were all so "equal" every race has shits in it, the shits should be the ones not tolerated not the entire race.

5. I was doing extra lessons with my science teacher, 1 to 1s, extra homework and I worked my ass of and got two A's but that teacher still hated me like I had personally stabbed her up the arse. And it wasn't because of the 1 to 1s either, I could understand her giving up her time being frustrating but since the first day I got there she had treated me like i'd never succeed in her class, always referencing previous years and ignoring when asked what she meant.

6. I had a panic attack in PE, my teacher's reaction? Sit her on the side for all to see and patronise her for an hour in front of everyone.

7. They did the healthy eating thing too, I was told they did it very well but I dared not enter the cafeteria because all the dicks hung out there. Later they put in a fingerprint system...yay security -.-'

8. They changed their name after I left (I won't say the names but they went from a normal sounding name to st's academy...i mean really)

9. boy these are getting long, after all this and fours years, after getting my gcse's and somehow working up the courage to say "yes I'd like to do A levels" they wouldn't let me because I was marked as a delinquent...

and then they forced uniforms on all 6th form.

I go to college now, it's so much better but that school cost me an extra year for that denial of A levels, a year that I spend depressed and with nothing to do. D.I.C.Ks

It's less of a dick move and more a proof of poor communication, but I started my Master's degree yesterday. Twenty-four hours prior to that, I still didn't know in which classroom I'd have to go. Everyone in the registrar was telling me to check online, which gave me absolutely nothing in terms of clear indications. It's only half an hour before leaving that I was able to reach someone from the Literature Department, who then tells me that the class numbers are displayed on a corkboard next to the Department's door - but never online.

I'd given up on heading to class prior to that, so I spent ten minutes frantically gathering things from around the house and arrived in class looking like the spitting image of your stereotypical absent-minded nerd with loose sheets and pencils sticking out every which way.

The administrative and professorial bodies really need to get their shit together, honestly. A little more communication would go a long way, since it quickly became obvious that my ten colleagues had been just as surprised as I was and just as unprepared as I was.

We *really* didn't need that, on top of the already massive stress of realizing just how big of a step there is between the Bachelor's and the Master's in Quebec.

Urgh.

Well my old high school was really lax with bullying they had this team called the BEST team and they would punish the bullies by.....sending them to Alton Towers? Yeah the Head reasoned that because the teachers were being nice people wouldn't bully. Then i got strangled nearly to death TWICE IN TH SAME MONTH the punishment? nice trip to Legoland while i got detention for failing to alert a member on staff on time ie WHILE I WAS BEING STRANGLED. I fail to see anyone having worse schools I moved to a better one now though.

Mine did. Twice.

1) Changed the already awful cafeteria system so kids can only get school food (we used to be able to swing by Tesco in the morning to get something worth eating rather than sawdust sandwiches)
This is a tough call, though. In a lot of areas of the US, for instance, the people buying school lunch are the ones that make it possible for the school nutrition folks to provide the "free and reduced price" lunches to students with financial need. If people stop buying school lunch, those kids also stop eating.

Of course, we can get into a whole big thing about how many folks don't really need the assistance, and why they're not spending money on feeding their kids instead of other unnecessary crap... but there are a good number of folks who really can't afford this stuff, and the program helps them stay afloat.

2)Timetable changes. Now, kiddies only have one hour of free time in the entire day, which goes from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and they have less options for their GCSEs, with (I think) 6 of them being removed. This affects the teachers, too - their pay gets frozen for I don't know how long (I'm not even sure they know).

What about yours? Did you ever want to set the board of governors on fire?
EDIT: The one hour is made of 20 minutes break and 40 minutes lunch.
In NC, USA, our pay as teacher has been frozen for four years now. That's happening everywhere, as people demand lower taxes but the same level of benefits from the government. But as to the timetable changes, you're quite lucky. In my school, our kids get 20 minutes for lunch, and then a 15-minute break afterward. That's it. We've pushed for more, but the law keeps demanding that we make more room for purely instructional time.

It's a liability thing. Legally, the school is responsible for you during certain hours. Parents have to be able to depend on that time remaining consistent. If a child can leave campus in the middle of the day, that's time they are unsupervised by the school or the parents. If something bad happens, guess who's getting sued?

The school. Because during school hours, they're the ones legally responsible for the child's whereabouts and well-being. It's not worth the risk of a multi-million dollar lawsuit just so you can trot over to McDonald's or something, sorry.

Changed our timetable so we have an extra lesson each day, meaning it's now possible for me to get 5 pieces of homework each day, and moving our lunchtime to 2:00, making us hungry for most of the day.

3 years or so ago, when I was in secondary school, the administration decided that the best way to counter bullying was to ban students from touching each other. It lasted less than 3 days, but several people got suspended for deliberately hugging and such, that was pretty dickish.

The year I went into 6th Form they gave lower school shitty uniforms with ties and things. We laughed, but it looked shitty for them. I can't remember lots of the shitty decisions from lower school but they were a bit retarded. Most of the teachers were pretty cool, but the head and the senior staff were mental. For example, in an effort to cut bullying (which was pretty rare anyway), they introduced unisex toilets, open to the corridor (still with cubicles though). Balls out crazy. Our 6th form head was a complete arse too; they kept increasing the amount of people allowed into 6th form, so in our second year there were 400 people in the common room at lunch, and it only really had room for 300. And building three new science labs that had no gas taps. Really bloody useful for your chemistry coursework.

don't even get me started on how much I can't complain about my university. They publicly screened for us the most expensive porn film ever made, for free.

To this day I'm still not sure why.

What godsend of a university is this???
What was the porn flick?
I believe it was entitiled Pirates II: Stagnatti's Revenge. And from what I've heard it had the biggest budget of any porn film to date, which isn't really saying much :p And yeah they screened it at my school: University of California, Davis, a couple years ago. I think it was also shown at UCLA.
Pirates and Pirates 2 are the two best pornos ever, and not because of the obvious reasons but because of some of the god awful lines

Well i grew up in what i'm assuming was a dictatorship, so i got removed from the school for failing to attend prayers in the morning.
You see there logic was that at one point in time "100%" of parents agreed that they wanted the lords prayer in schools, and since the laws allow for prayers you can opt into they decided to simply run prayer service in the first 5 minutes of class time, which our laws DON'T allow this way if you don't attend the lords prayer you are skipping class and can be expelled.

£3.50 for a folder for my Graphics coursework.

Which is roughly $5 in American money (I think), but it's cheaper than most places.

I started sixth form, too. Mine works more like a college though, so provided you can keep track of time, you can fuck off around town during your breaks. I'm guessing yours works more like typical school?

They also changed the cafeteria so that it would no longer accept money. You had to pay the school to put money on a card which you bought stuff with. not really a dick move but annoying for the people who bought stuff at school.
I'm pretty sure that would just enhance the student run black markets going in most schools with a certain number of people.
