For one thing, random power weapon drops sound like a great idea so people who just wait for them to spawn don't have an advantage anymore.

Not sure if trolling.

Dude, stick to the Reach forum or 343i's forums if serious and stop making the Halo fanbase look bad. It's grown smaller yet better ever since CoD took off and since Reach the only blemishes are the overly nostalgic and hyper competitive types.

Everything I've seen so far about Halo 4 sounds promising, to be honest.
The only honest concern I have for it is if the story can keep up - I really enjoyed the single player campaigns in CE, 2 and 3. 4, however, has a few items which feel a little to much like a "retcon". I'm happy to wait and see.

For the multiplayer, I like the idea of Loadouts mixed with Weapon Drops. It ensures that you have a solid weapon of choice at hand, and it removes the timing requirement present in titles like Quake 3 for the drops.
This means it's more about on the fly adaptation - something that Halo 2 and Reach, in particular, really handled well - as opposed to the simple rinse-and-repeat gameplay, which Quake 3 can really bog down into at higher skill levels.

As for "forever ruining" Halo, Halo 4 looks promising - but it's with a cautious optimism. I think Microsoft and 343i are more than aware of our hesitation thanks to the departure of Bungie. I doubt they'll fuck it up.

Wow, sounds like you've played the game, or even watched a Let'sPlay. Except... wait... the game isn't out yet so you couldn't possibly know.

Just to simply milk the cash cow that is first person shooters right now, instead of being innovative. Halo 4 will essentially be a re-skin of Reach. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, people are stupid enough to fork out $64 every year for a re-skinned game then do it.
?

How about we all calm down and wait for actual gameplay.

Also, Reach was the best Halo game, it wasn't a reskin and you are acting a little crazy
I kind of thought he was trolling to be honest...
Maybe he's not I guess, I dunno.
Anyway, load outs doesn't seem like that bad of a thing to me but I am a little concerned about the random weapon drops. Hopefully they find a way to do this without putting too much luck into the game.
My main concern is the campaign. Them saying they are going to actually try and develop Master Chief's character more is honestly a good sign.

I really had no intention of playing Halo 4 ever to be honest. Halo 3 had a great ending that was satisfying and provided enough closure to make me feel that the series was 'over' and as huge of a Halo fanboy as I am, I won't be interested in any continuation.

But yes from the sounds of things, what makes Halo 'Halo' seems to be dissappearing in Halo 4's gameplay, at least if that article is to be believed.

P.S you know I must be getting more jaded when even giant pictures of the mighty and holy SANGHEILI in the article don't make me leap with excitement.

Perhaps one should play it before condemning it. Having said that, I still have Reach so I don't care :p.

I'm surprised you're taking the news that they're not in multiplayer well :p.

Did you see the leaks from that magazine? Instant respawns, a perk that lets you see through walls, powerful weapons drop on the map in random position, class loadouts....

Its just not Halo anymore. Halo is dead.
I saw an article on ign similar to this its a shame that 343 are following the trend of what sells and turning it into call of halo.

Wow, what condescension. Who are you to call people stupid for how they spend their money? If somebody thinks that there's $60 worth of value in the game then who are you to say they're wrong? I'm so sick of this whinning coming from some of the community.

It's turned into a small community of mostly casual gamers, noobs and children. That's a better community for a game that was KNOWN for having an enormous fanbase and following that included every imiganible type of player?

How can you possibly defend that?!!
Bungie tossed their own brand in the toliet with Reach cause everyone who knows Halo knows that game was the WoRST of the series by far.

Obvious when you listen to the fans, see how few are even left, or play the p.o.s.

I'm not allowed to be serious about what used to be my favorite game before Bungie killed it?

Try answering my questions foo! get owned like you's would at Halo. Yes any of them, even crap-reach! :p

I was getting pretty irritated with the 1 step forward 4 steps back system that was Halo 3's ranking system. I don't remember specifically but I think it ended up being that you had to win 20 games in a row or something to reach the next level at the rank I was at but any time you lost a game it took a few wins away from the rank I'd had already achieved. Which isn't a problem if you're one of those smug people to whom winning every match you play comes totally naturally and requires no effort but for those who have to try its really frustrating to be having a great set of games and then you get into a match against a bunch of people who just want to camp with the sniper rifle and shot gun the whole time and the other people on your team aren't willing to adjust the way they play to compensate for that. I do agree that the COD ranking system is pretty lame since everything about it can be achieved over time with minimal skill.

What is the truth of life? In that situation I just mute that player and go to a different lobby after the match. In truth the xbox headset being able to fit on a child's head is up there among mankind's greatest mistakes.

The information that was leaked was good, in my eyes.

I prefer a mission over survival game mode.
Sprint is available to everyone.
Nice, new armor abilities. I'm hoping none of them game-breaking.
I hated playing as an elite in multiplayer.
More medals, playlists and types of grenades. Good.
No more weapon camping.
I hated the countdown when respawning.
Join games mid-way. Hopefully giving you a choice.

I think Firefight will make a return in Halo 5 or 6, to make it look better.
Reach forever ruined? Nah. But it will have forge mode right? RIGHT!?

SOLVEmedia: marry me

Pfft, no.

Well... okay.

You are the worst type of fan, no type of person. Seriously. Just quit. The community would be better for it.

People like you are what gave the Halo community the terrible stereotype in the first place.

Dude, you don't understand. The "community" you're soooooo fucking in love with used to include EVERY TYPE OF PLAYER.

They RUINED Reach OVER-PANDERING to the people who were terrible. Kids, noobs, people bad at video games. You fall into one of those categories I can easily guess. Which is fine, but Halo wasn't just about the shit you like or think is a good idea until Bungie vomited out Reach. Which is the worst Halo game ever made. Look at the numbers, ask anyone.

Your "community" is just people who still play Reach. And like you said, a really small one .
That's the community you want? Dude, 10+ times as many people used to like playing the Halo's online.

I'm not a person cause I liked Halo when everyone in it's fanbase enjoyed playing it?

I guess that makes the millions of other fans of the series like me not people either? Or is it just because I'm being vocal on a forum about how Bungie over-pandered to you noobs and ruined the game? Only people who like Reach cause it's noob-friendly and has cool vehicles. And armor lock. Are people?

You're the jack-ass here bud.

Why didn't the NBA ever ask Jordan if he wanted to play with rules where everyone got to shoot open lay-ups? I'm sure he would have thought that was great... Oh right, that takes all the fun out of basketball, except for the little kid who wanted to drive the lane past MJ...

give me a break son.

So basically, you want everyone to do well without actually being good at the game.

Everything wrong with modern FPS.
Thats a matter of perspective. sure, memorising and rushing weapon spawns takes great skill -.- Its the one thing that annoyed me in previous halo games, so im glad its being changed. Nothing worse than players just rushing for the rocket launcher. This why its more down to luck. There will still be skill with the moment to moment combat im sure :)
Plus, to me, Halo has always seemed to be the kind of game intended for one to be able to simply pick up and play. As a result, designing the game so that someone can do fairly well right out of the gate is a much better choice than making it so that more experienced players get to frustrate newbies to the point of leaving the game.

It's also a fucking videogame, SmashLovesTitanQuest,(unless you're trolling, in which case ignore the rest of this) it's not important enough that you're entitled to show contempt for people who want new players or players who aren't great at it to do well and have fun. If you take the number of noobs you pwn, or are pwned by, in any given game seriously and you aren't paid to do so (MLG, for example), then you're what's wrong with the modern FPS.

As a long time Halo fan, I have to say no, not even freaking close. As one person once said on this very website "people always fly off of the hook when they learn about game mechanics, when what really matters is not which game mechanics are used, but how they work within the context of the game." or something like that. And considering that we know bugger all about how this game is going to work, I say that these cries of "RUINED FOREVER!" Are rather premature. OH NO now you can see through walls, that's slightly better than the radar which told you exactly where people are and if they were above or below you. It seems like a useless ability to be honest.
It's fine to judge mechanics on how they function in the system but Halo that doesnt feel like Halo is still a dissapointment.

Random weapon drops are really indefensible no matter how you look at. Tho it's something that can be fixed easily once they patch in the MLG playlist.
Well considering that no one has played it yet, we really can't say if it feels like Halo or not can we? And no they're not, I'm stoked for that idea, the whole "map control" thing that halo has really annoyed me. "Hey we have this massive map to fight on, but we're only gonna use one tenth cuz that's where the power weapons are.". Power weapon hoarding, spawn camping, that one hyper obsessive mlg guy hogging them all, these are all things that I won't miss. Maybe now we can just relax and have fun and just killing each other instead memorizing the location of each and every power weapon and the spawn timer. Never bothered with that stuff, too much preperation and study when i just want to unwind.
Being on a good team that takes advantage of the weapon spawns is what some people would call "playing the game." This works for Halo because the weapons (if in a br spawn mode) are actually well balanced. A good BR player can kill anyone as long as he knows camping and sniper positions.

Even if you don't like this design, RANDOM spawns are the worst solution possible. Custom loadouts are better, weapon restrictions based on class is better, giving the player every single weapon at spawn is better. random just adds an unnecessary element of luck to the system and it exasperates weapon balance problems because teams can't actually plan around having or fighting against those weapons.

EDIT: and in team objective the sniper and rl are like five feet away from the flag in most maps (atleast the ones people actually play) the only weapons that are majorly contested by both teams are usually shotguns, swords and the S-lazer.
And if we went with custom layouts or weapon restrictions, guess what we still have people complaining that it's the worst possible solution, a lot of them would probably even be the people who are complaining about the random weapon drops now.

I've been saying this for a while.
The first two or so Halos had a nice long campaign mode, linked with a great, varied and atmospheric story. Recently, it's lost its grit. It's switched its focus to multiplayer, and in doing so has lost what made it unique. The multiplayer is fun, but it's infested with people introduced to the series via Halo 3 and such, uninterested in the fantastic story the series was once based around, now with all this massive armour everything turned cheesy and OTT.
It's CoD ft. Aliens now. Will be interesting to see where Halo 4 goes but I'm not expecting much.
