no, pc was never ahead of consoles, thats the reasson that along with my pc i own consoles from each generation, cause there are games with creativity that i cant find in pc, speaking for my taste the best platformers belong to consoles, best jrpg to consoles, best open world game like Red dead redemption my favorite one is console only and tones of others of course, i love my pc but i love the diversity that consoles offer too.
So in the end is what games do you like ?

and using graphics as bullet points everywhere except the final bit as BioShock looks better than your PC examples.
You said Bioshock looked better than Crysis, hang your head in shame!!!

Although in your defence, that is a terrible, terrible shot of Crysis that is obviously not being run on high or MAXIMUM.

Local multiplayer consoles have always trounced PC. So games like Rock Band, kart racers, mario party and SMB don't really have a PC counter part. Granted I fucking loved a tron flash game that allowed 4 people to play on a keyboard. Lan parties are awesome too. Me and my friends once got a 16 player full lobby of Halo in the Library. Greatest high school accomplishment.

I would argue consoles have better gimmicks. Like Rumble and Motion controls but VR looks like its just going to shit on what ever consoles have tired to do augment the gaming experience to make it more engaging. Hope it becomes affordable.

I wonder why the hell these threads even exist, we've had at least 5 threads in one month alone each being different ways and methods of a PC vs Console war, it's getting beyond stale and annoying, I game on both and I'm getting sick and tired of this little charade because all this thread tells me is:

1. it's a dick measuring contest pure and simple

2. It's born out of one's insecurities

3. It's designed to spark no actual discussion but to bait and cause a flame war.

Every time a thread like this is created it always ends with it dragging on and into a heated pointless debate and ends up getting locked, locked threads mean the thread was shit, caused annoyance and didn't bear anything fruitful, we should be making more positive threads to discuss both platforms and our interests, not drive people to the edge of insanity because a few douchebags couldn't get their head on straight and get the platform hate out of their system.

There should be some new kind of rule because it's becoming obvious that this site isn't strict enough since all we're getting most of the time is SJW/anti female bullshit and then we have the ever prominent PC vs console crap, it needs to be stopped because it's never adding to discussion since 99% of the time it's added deliberate hatred towards some people.

Why can't we all just be multiplatformers?, I've noticed that a few exist here and I am one myself, I see no need for such a thread because neither camp is better than the other, they both have their own qualities and people like those different qualities, that ends discussion right there because that's it.

Also I'm going to talk to a mod about this, this is getting out of hand and it's doing nothing but dividing us.
You have my support in stopping these threads being made. A few sites have it as a rule that they'll lock any thread made with the obvious intent to indulge in this platform wars nonsense as no good comes from them.
Yep, my support also. I don't even know what to say any more. Said what I needed to say in the other threads.

I remember gaming in the late 80's where the PC was just plain shit compared to anything else. Crap graphics, mostly crap gameplay, poor sound and nobody had the foggiest how to use a PC because it was barely a typewriter with functions nobody had heard of and had no inclination of. So the PC hasn't always had the limelight...or the elitist attitudes that spoil most modern debates about gaming in general. To play computer games then was to be an outcast...not some kool kid angsty cock measuring tool :p

As far as I remember, yes PCs have always been superior to consoles, specially in graphics. Don't get me wrong, I actually love consoles, owning several myself as well as a high end PC.
However, what makes a PC a superior machine for me is its flexibility, you can work, study, navigate or play a game just by selecting another application. You can upgrade it whenever you think there is a need for it.

- Sonic 1 was released in 1991. Doom was released in 1993. Yeah, I know the point still broadly stands even if we compare Sonic 3 to Doom, but let's be accurate if we're doing a side-by-side comparison... and let's not forget that even Sonic 3 managed quite a nice faux-3D special stage.

- New console releases seem to rival or sometimes even outdo the average PC of the time, although the length of console lifespans means this rarely stays the case. I remember being a PC gamer in the mid 90s, with a fairly bog standard gaming rig, and being quite jealous of the graphics consoles were throwing out - coloured lighting, transparent water, fogging - stuff that at the time you'd have to buy a Voodoo 3DFX graphics card to achieve.

It's apples to oranges. Back in the 80s-90s, gaming on PC and console was so different there really was no comparison. You have sonic on there- at the time Sonic came out there was nothing like it on PC (yes I know Jazz Jackrabbit exists and you know what? It fucking sucks, too). PC games catered to stuff that computers were good at: numbers, with strategy, sim, and 3D-gaming while consoles emphasized bright colors, fast 2D play, and higher audio quality. You know Doom there? Well when that got ported to console, the music was no trouble because at the time, you needed one hell of a sound card to squeeze any kind of comparable-to-console audio out of your PC.

The turning point was when the FPS really made it mainstream, thanks mostly to Doom. This created a console demand by word-of-mouth, with varying results. Wolfenstein was censored but otherwise a faithful port, while Doom had to be tuned down on some platforms. This was really when people began looking at the PC as a superior console alternative, but it would take a while longer before the PC would see the kind of broad, cross-genre development consoles had. Even with Halo, that was a console game that came to PC to appease players, albeit with a port that was technically superior.

Nowadays the architecture between consoles and traditional computers is so similar that many games come out on both, and usually the PC experience wins, but that's simply a result of PC gaming changing to conform to the genres and gameplay pioneered on console. The present superiority of the PC experience should be taken, not as a criticism of the idea of consoles, which are useful and fun, but of the hardware giants who produce those consoles and think that shoving a three-year-old video card and a pittance of RAM in a 300 dollar box is job well fucking done. Anybody could make a console that would shit all over computers at any time, they CHOOSE not to.

Not always.
N64, PS1 and Saturn were more powerful than consumer PC's at the time. Until 3dfx released their voodoo video card in late 1996 you had to have a console for the most impressive games (on a technical level at least).

Also I might be mistaken, but I also believe that for a shot time, x360's gpu was more powerful than what was available for PC's from both Nvidia and ATI.

Like Rumble
I might be off-topic here I could never understand why would anyone like the rumble.
I often drive my car though gravel. I have shot guns before. I've seen many air shows with big helicopters flying nearby (I'm referring the the beginning of MGS). NEVER did it ever feel like I'm holding a vibrating dildo in my hand. If it's supposed to add immersion, it's not working. Quite the opposite.

IMO Gen 1 consoles were definately more powerful and fexible than the personal computers available at that time. Gen 2 consoles and personal computers were on a par, graphically the consoles were more powerful than most 80's personal computers, but the computers had a small edge in processing power. Gen 3 is where computers started pulling ahead graphically, athough it was still a fairly tight race. Since then, PC's have theoretically always had the advantage. but what use is an advantage when most games does use it?
