Has RROD gone forever?

Recently was the second time I got the RRoD.

Now I'm trying to "prove" that I bought it within three years ago so I can get it repaired for free.

I'm thinking I don't have to pay in the first place as they didn't really fix the problem but simply delay the problem a little longer.

But thats the problem. Nobody knows with any certainty whether it's 2 percent or 200 percent
Can I just ask how the hell anything can have a failure rate of 200 percent!?

What so, say there are 20,000,000 xboxes sold, and 40,000,000 of them have RRODed? :p

I'm coming up on the one year anniversary of my 360's life, and it is still alive and kicking. 2 months ago I had a bit of a scare when I started getting dirty disc errors up the ying, but it all calmed down after about a week. I hope to make it a year!

The failure rate of the 360 is not okay though. The failure rate is 100%, so no matter how long it takes, every single on of those consoles will eventually die at some point. Hopefully the new hardware setup will fix some of these issues... Goddamn you E74...

Mine RRODed five times. The first time I sent it back to the seller and he fixed it. The second time it RRODed I took it to a repair shop because my warranty ran out and I foolishly assumed my RROD troubles were over. The third time it happened as soon as I took it home. I still had 90 days on my warranty so I had to take it to the same repair shop twice more before it could even play a game without failing. I just got it back a few days and if it gets RROD again I will demand a refund and do business elsewhere.

The failure rate of the 360 is (or hopefully was) absolutely appalling, and more so when you put into account of all the people willing to bend over for Microsoft to have their console break down multiple times.
Yeah... I just got my first RROD, and I'm more than willing to "bend over" and let Microsoft fix it. For free.

I honestly don't see the issue. Especially since I've had two PS2s fail in the same amount of time.

By appalling, I more or less mean for people who've had instances like this;

I have been an avid Playstation gamer since PS1. Then went on to own a PS2 and about 12 months ago I spent four grand on a custom pc. Between my PS2 and pc I bought a 360. At eight hundred New Zealand dollars it was alot, and I kind of regret it. Only because of the two years I've had it, it has worked for maybe eight months. Now I'm not bashing my 360 or any fanboys. I personally think it's a good console, I just wish the sodding thing would work when I want to play games on it. As for the jasper thing I hope so, I am about to send mine away again. And you know what they say, fourth time lucky.
I do not care if they fix it for free, if a drug failed to do what it was advertised and gave you a side effect like, I dunno, losing your hair would you accept them saying "Oh, we'll give you a free refill!"?

If you're 360 crapped out on you only once since you've bought it at launch or something, kudos to you, you're very lucky. That does not mean, however, that it's acceptable for this kind of failure rate to ever be existing. So what if Microsoft fix it for free? Free kind of loses it's charm after the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th time (which will hopefully not happen to you).

My PS2, after over 6 years of service, has only froze up on me once and that was fixed by opening it up and dusting it out (a lot of dust collected over the years). I do not believe that the PS2 was ever known for having console breaking errors, but make no mistake if my PS2, PS3, DS, or whatever console I had broke down on me at a maximum of 3 times, Sony and Nintendo would lose a customer.

(though to be fair, I'd probably be a hypocrite and continue playing them regardless.)

I have no idea what the "Jasper" is, but then, my xbox has never RROD'ed. Only thing that ever went wrong was my component cable broke, and that probably had something to do with me tugging the cable to unplug it instead of pulling the actualy plug bit. Now I have VGA, though, which is good, because its better :) .

Meh, that medicine analogy doesn't work. The worst thing that happens when you get the RROD is... you can't play games for a while. Big whoop. I've already had to purchase two PS2s, and given that Sony keeps cutting BC from their consoles I'll probably wind up purchasing a third one at least when this one bites the dust.

I don't see eye to eye with you with regards to free being unacceptable, though I understand your ire. It is sort of silly that MS is willing to lose so much money repairing people's consoles, but since it doesn't affect the end user all that much I don't really care.

Besides, since Microsoft has lost a considerable sum of money with the RROD fiasco, they'll ensure that this doesn't occur with the next console. They're in this to make money after all.

I'm not saying "free is unacceptable!", I'm saying that regardless of if it's free that doesn't excuse the problem just like having an "A+" doesn't excuse you from having a "D" average.

Overall though, I find it incredibly stupid as to how Microsoft let this happen. Sure, they wanted to get ahead of the game, but was it really worth it? Probably...

And knowing that this is Microsoft, I wouldn't be surprised if the next installment had even more problems :p This is Microsoft we're talking about here, they make Software, not Hardware.

I think of the 360 as being the Vista of the gaming world. So logically, the next one will be the Windows 7 of the gaming world, and with all the good news I keep hearing about 7 the next Box will be a doozy :D
