Resident Evil ... A true classic

OT: Remember the beginning of Fallout 3? Being vomited out of your mothers vagina is a great idea when it comes to immersion but then following it up immediately by selecting a gender, name and, exactly how you'll look was a bit flow-breaking. As yahtzee also pointed out; at the point which you are just about to exit the vault, you are asked if there is any point of your childhood you'd like to alter; including your name and, face ... and hair/eye color

Having the life bar shown doesn't really make the game real...er than it tries.

Also when you have the help tips on long after the tutorial.

"Press X to open door." Oh really? I didn't know that. I've just opened HUNDRED FUCKING DOORS NOW!

The force unleashed: Not being able to cleave the robot storm troopers in two or at least force deflect their proton torpedoes.
Batman Arkham Asylum: Some of the moves bats does are just so ridiculous how can they not kill the inmates, for example when he does a front-flip in front of an inmate an drives the back of his heel in to there head.

Prince of Persia...when the ending forces you to undo everything you have to done to save the girl's life. Nothing in that game lead me to believe the prince would actually do that. I really wondered why there was no option to just walk away. With possibly a cut scene with sad lonely music possibly with a fading sunset a hooded figure walking off in a sand covered landscape.

Sure they would, the next game starts with 'Oh shit, someone's let the big bad out again.' There's no reason it had to be you, in the same game you just went through hell and high water to seal him away in.

Being on fire in a Dragon Age: Origins coversation.
When Jowan wakes you up after yout Harrowing. The darn demon got a flame debuf on me right before he died resulting in my mage laying on his bed, sleeping, while totally in flames.
It was hilarious, but oh so immersion breaking.

Anytime I'm on a scavenger hunt in a video game and I can't find one of the things I'm looking for. It;'s worse when you have a little marker indicating where the object is, but it's not there. Scrambling around for minutes looking for something I should be able to find in seconds always kills immersion for me.

Which is happening to me right now in Borderlands.
Are you looking for a piece of a revolver by any chance?
No, a Sniper rifle. I think it fell out of the map, since the area it told me to look in was a small nook behind a hut. One that I could easily get myself stuck in.
Actually, heres all the parts from the entrance...

1st. As you enter the area, to your upper right is a house hanging off a small cliff. Part is on a barrel/box out in front balcony.
2nd. Fallow the left wall until you start uphill. Stop. Look just at the base of the hill for a pile of scrap metal with a mattress on it.
3rd. Upper level. On a table in the back.
4th. Topity Top of the most topmost area, on top of the top most house.

BTW. When scavenging for gun parts. The way point does not show you the location of each part. It just takes you to the area.

Thanks for the help. I just assumed since every other way point I have encountered took me directly to the objective that this one would to.

Mate when you reach the check point look for the money bag symbols, they show where the parts are.
Also there will be guides on google if you wanted to look

I have experienced this too many times... For example in some games there is this mission where you have to find something somewhere and your'e in a terrible hurry, some nuke is gonna blow off or sumthing, and you can't find anything! And ofc in most of the games nothing is ever gonna happen unless you find that thing...

In Assassin's Creed 2 (or the first one, they both have the same problem), when various NPCs yell the same predesignated sound clip at you.

Though to be fair, while this does break immersion like a knife to butter, it's usually too funny to warrant any complaining. It's just been happening so often lately.

And to be even more fair, the Assassin's Creed games aren't the only ones with the problem.

I remember in Resident Evil 4, I was killing the zom--- Ganado, and then I get to a boss fight. The cut scene rolls so I sit back, put my controller on the table, and watch Leon enter a room. Then: "PRESS B TO DUCK!" and I die. That broke my immersion completely.

Also, the dogs in CoD Modern Warfare that tore my throat out if I did not push B at the precise moment. In short, I hate quick time events.

Edit: Also, as people said before, Oblivion. What does it for me is listening to conversations.

"Hello!"
"Hi!"
"Goodbye!"
"Awful lot o' mud crabs, aren't there?"
"How are you!"
"People have been saying there's a murderer about!"
"Goodbye!"
"Bye!"
/repeat when encountering another NPC 5 steps down the road.

Quick-time events in any game.
Press Y to not die...press B to not die...press A to not die...press X to not die.
I hate it when quick time events pop up

Most recently, because it just happened to me today...I was doing the horse race side mission in Assassin's Creed 2 where you race around Forli/Romagna. Don't really think it's a spoiler but still...
The girl screws you...just for winning a fricking horse race?!?!? What the frell!!! I know the game isn't really historically accurate, but really?!?!
