Given the grittiness of the trailer, I'm pretty sure the intended reaction is disgust or something like that. It's killing with little to no context. You're not fighting evil soldiers to save the world or zombies to survive; you're killing innocent people begging to live.
If the game explains motivations or explores the making/aftermath of an unapologetic serial murderer, maybe I'd look into it to see what's the big bait-and-switch. Will it be how the objective of the game is similar to other games with the targets painted over? Will it the be the exploitation of killings in fiction/non-fiction? The mindset that virtual lives hold zero value? What is it?
