Speak fluent English and fluent Dutch
I have been taught german and french in school
For some reason I fully understand Italian Danish Swedish Norwegian german french and spanish
whilst reading it or hearing it when spoken on regular and not newsreader speed
and Well I can make myself basically understood In Italian and german

and well I can say I can speak afrikaans with my combo of English and dutch as a basis :3 (meaning I can rant on in dutch ease it up a bit and change the things I know what need to be changed for example Waneer jij met vuur speelt zul je je branden=As jy met vuur speel sal jy brand )

it's all quite weird Don't understand why I can follow some of it xDxD
South African is a funny 'dialect' to my ears. It sounds a bit like a discription of the things named if they name something. But I can understand it if I do my best. Funny to see "dat jij ook Nederlans spreekt" isn't a very popular language to learn I guess.

I, too, am currently in Japan, and teaching myself Japanese. I took it in high school and for a year in college, but I had forgot everything, so I had to start over. I can do simple everyday conversations, but nothing in depth. I understand about 60% of what is said around me/on tv, and can read kana with no problem, but I only know about 400 kanji, which basically means my real reading skill is nil.

I took Japanese for a few years. I'm not fluent by any means but I can speak some. I am, however, going to get a minor in Japanese. So in short someday I'll be fluent.

I'm fluent in German, French and English (although it's not a native language of mine).

I can handle basic conversations in Italian and Spanish.

English is my second unofficial language. We learn it in school mandatory, but no one expects us to actually learn anything.
OT: No second official language here in Romania, maybe Thief-enease(because of all the Romanians-are-crooks jokes)

I went to a European School in Belgium for a number of years, so English was my first, French my second, Spanish my third, and Latin my fourth. I picked up a fair bit if Dutch and German too, from both living in Belgium, and from knowing people who spoke the languages.
I used to do Irish, but I didn't get the choice to do it there. But, here, in Ireland, all I can do is French, cause I'm exempt from Irish. Makes for boring times ._.

i tried latin in 8th grade, but i hated it with a passion so i quit early in.

my high school teaches latin, french, spanish, and german.

I speak, write and read: Dutch, English, French, German.
I can read Spanish fairly decent.
And I can understand the main point in Latin, Swedish and Italian writings.

English is my native language, and I studied Latin in high school. I'm a wiz in Latin, too. Of course, their goal is to teach you to translate, since nobody speaks it anymore, but I could probably ask for directions if I got lost in the Vattican City.

Besides that, it's my plan to learn at least German and Japanese before this show is over. It's not going well, especially the Japanese. They have so many damn letters...

I live in a tri-lingual country (which funnily enough, is really really small), as a result I am quite fluent in French and German, on top of my mother-language, which is Dutch.

My English is fine too, I suppose.

So I can speak four languages without even trying.

And once I've got the time and the money, I'm going to learn as many languages as I can. I'd love me some Russian or Icelandic.
