Have things changed?

Hello Children. Some of you remember me. A lot of you probably don't. My name is Doki and I used to love it here.

First a few things about me. I'm a cynicist who saw what was a fantastic friendly forum decend into a dark and scary place, where repeat topic after repeat topic clogged my front page, people abusing simple concepts like "Report and Move on" and "Use the Search Button" pulled at the fabric of my very community. Trolling was rampant, and a good deal of my friends were permabanned, with no real reasons. I've seen people become mods who may or may not deserve it, and several of these problems increased. In a term coined by our very own Ultra Joe, I went rogue and "Cyber Vigilante" -d anybody in my way. But it got too much

So I left. I turned my back on one of my favorite forums. I was an artifact, no longer needed here. So I waited and watched in silence hoping things would eventually get better. Which brings us to today.

Are things better here? I genuinely want to know. I miss the discussions that went on here. the intelligent conversations between people like Nuke, Purps, FeNinja, Indy. I want to know if things are ok here or if they are as bad as they were when I left.

Hmm... Well, there's still plenty of repeat thread and good deal of idiocy every now and then but I believe there's still a good deal of genuine brilliance here; you just gotta look hard enough. You'll find a gem every now and then but you can't expect to see it 24/7.

I am somewhat new to this forum but welcome back.

The best way to tell if the forum has changed is to lurk a little bit. The community banded together to beat Zynga in the developer contest so we may be a bit high on that victory but this place seems nice enough even without that.

Um....probably shouldn't expect much difference considering it;s the end of MM. I mean, if anything the past month has only made it worse.

Doki? Doki!? DOKI! I wondered where you had gone to. No, this is not the same place you remember. Many people have been perma-banned and others, like you, have simply gotten fed up and left. A few still stay and chat. The IRC is a great place to do so.

I miss you though. I miss all the members that I originally joined in order to talk to.

I dunno, when I joined it was in the midst of the nightmare you describe. But lately, it actually seems okay. Reckless probation and banning seems to have subsided and I can't remember the last time I saw a zombie apocalypse thread or someone bitching about the search bar. Whether it's as good as you remember it, I can't tell you, but it's certainly been improving over the last couple months.

No. Intelligent conversation is pretty much gone. I can't remember the last time I saw one of the brilliantly wordy little essays I remember loving a year or two ago.

Well, it is different I guess, but I don't know how to explain it in any coherent sense.

In any case, the more I lurk, waiting for it to be back the way it was... The more I feel like I don't belong.

I think if you leave to wait for things to be good again, the change will seem more pronounced, and the forums will be sad without you =(

Anyways, I couldn't tell you if things got better, but glad you're back? Hope things are good comparatively, but I've seen some assholes recently.
I blame this whole March Mayhem thing.

Ahh, TaxiDriver. How I do miss him. He was once a fairly prominent member of these forums. Got banned within a month of my joining if I do recall.

I only joined after everything supposedly went bad, so I wouldn't know. But I do know this. On almost every forum I've seen, there are people complaining about how everything used to be better and things have changed and now suck. Just an observation.

It's not that hard, guys. Sure, you might have to not use that witty comment you'd been saving up, but it's the only way to beat them.

Yea. It's especially annoying when it's something as obvious as this.

I honestly think you are taking this way too seriously. No one forces anyone to be here.
Generally speaking it's pretty easy to avoid repeat threads - just don't click on them.
Nothing's ever perfect, but at least on this site you can have an intelligent discussion with other members. These forums promote discussion over one word posts and trolling. It's not a perfect system but it still is better than most forums.

Well, I know that NewClassic is still here. Krunk is around, as I just witnessed. Hmm... Amnestic every once in a while. Shivari is done, I haven't seen him in forever. A bunch of people just got perma-banned though. I don't even remember who all did. Indigo-dingo and a few others as well. It is quite sad to see so many members go, but I make do. Check out the IRC. NewClassic and I are on there quite a bit. Most of the others on there are pretty cool people too.
