The preacher person from the children of the atom or what have you in the middle of megaton. I killed him and then was killed by everyone in town.... it was worth it though, both his face and voice irrated me so much, if I had it installed I'd probably go kill him again.

I have days where I wake up at 3 am in the game just so I can run down there with a load of mines, plant them all where he usually stands, then watch from a distance.
That sounds hilarious, although don't you have to shoot him first for him to become hostile?
You think I wanted to tip him off that I was planning to blow him up?

Carth Onasi from Knights of the Old Republic has the emotional maturity of a five year old child. I try my best to ignore him.

The Ghoul you meet in Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines. If you've played the game, you'll get what i'm talking about. And he's one of the first NPCs you meet aswell...

HK-47 in KoToR is pretty annoying too, though people seem to think he's funny...

EDIT: Glad i didn't say Carth Onasi now.

Bots in Left 4 Dead. "Louis has startled the Witch!" Well, Louis can suck it, we're out of here.

Seymour Guado. If you think bishonen heroes are annoying it's because you've never met a bishonen villain.

Carth Onasi. A little cheese with that whine, Carth? A little MORE cheese? A little death-due-to-massive-amounts-of-cheese-being-rammed-down-your-throat?

Squall Leonhart. I could not get into FF8 at all, because of his whining. I forced myself through the first couple of hours on a friend's recommendation. Still wanted to smash Squall's girlyboy face with the nearest convenient heavy object.

Deckard Cain in the first Diablo. Let me get this straight, geezer: the fate of the world rests on my shoulders. You need me because I'm the only one who can kill the Devil. And you're going to CHARGE me to identify this worthless doodad I brought you? I might have actually listened to Deckard's monologues if his voice wasn't so annoying.

The Combine Soldier. "Pick up that can. Okay, you can go, heh heh." Ahh, so you jackbooted fucktards are responsible for this mess. I'm *really* going to enjoy killing your asses.

My most epic hatred is still for SHODAN. It's not enough I'm alone on a ship of murderous worm-people at the edge of space, the architect of my misery has to taunt me constantly about how useless I am even as she forces me to do everything she can't do herself? *SO* much satisfaction from popping her cork.

Every single dark elf in oblivion.

Elves are usually self-obsessed, smug pricks. Seriously, look all throughout fiction and you will fid they always seem to be the damn same, but no elf is more annoying than oblivion's dark elves. They all have the same "I talk this posh because I'm genetically superior to you, but I'm still a moron" voice, they always seem to be utterly useless, and who can possibly forget this incident of overconfidence meets stupidity;

The voice of the agency from crackdown 1+2.

"Don't kill peacekeepers agent! I don't know how much clearer I can make that!"

Well he shouldn't stand in front of rocket launchers, should he?

"Citizens are not targets!"

He looked at me funny!

"this is gonna hurt you a lot more than me!"

Well good luck catching your own genetically altered god with a gun, sucker. *Flies off on rocket boots*

Ashley Williams from Mass Effect. Pretty much every conversation you have with her she will start spewing poetry for no damned reason.
Don't forget she's a Xenofobe too. *****...
Right, knew this would show up eventually, luckily I came prepared:

Ashley is not xenophobic, nor is she racist. Her prejudice against aliens is not based on a superiority complex or irrational fear or hatred of the unknown. Her Grandfather fought in the First Contact War and during that time he was forced to surrender to the Turians making him the first human ever to surrender to an alien race.
Thus her family name is blacklisted in Alliance military and she feels she has to redeem her family name but due to the bias against her name she is reduced to small groundside assignments and has gotten no experience with any alien races and has nothing to go on save for the history of the First Contact War.
That is why she distrusts aliens. In fact it doesn't even go that far, at most she's just cautious of relying on them as allies, believing that they are more likely to look out for themselves over helping out humanity in the upcoming disaster.
She still doesn't think humanity should turn down alien races as allies nor do they have any right to mistreat them, she just says that humanity should be able to stand on their own two feet and not rely on the Council as a crutch.
She certainly isn't filled with blind unreasoning hatred like so many angry accusations proclaim.

That said, on Virmire she still happily volunteers to work with the Salarian team and if she is picked for the job it's clear from the radio chatter that she is perfectly comfortable working with, and possibly leading, a team made up entirely of aliens.

She also mentions at one point to Tali (elevator conversation) that she heard some humans are blaming the Quarians about Eden Prime and furthermore expresses her hope that Tali helping them find Saren will help improve relations between humans and Quarians.

Also after Liara's mother dies on Noveria if you go and talk to Ashley she suggests to Shepard to go talk to Dr. T'soni because she just lost her mum and 'that's gotta hurt'.
She also despises Terra Firma passionately and refuses to have anything to do with them believing that whatever noble goals they may once have had haven now been replaced by simple racism. She dismisses them in conversation and openly responds to their protest on the citadel with hatred, especially when they bring Shanxi into it.

Also she herself announces very clearly at one point that she doesn't believe humanity is superior.
Finally, she can be convinced to move past her former trust issues with Aliens and admit to herself that it wasn't the Council or Turians who blacklisted her family name, it was the Alliance. And that while there exist alien foreign powers who do oppose humanity they also don't seem to want to destroy humanity either so this is an opportunity to learn.

Ashley is not racist, never was and hopefully never will be. Although given where things seem to be going Bioware may decide to go ahead and Flanderize her in Mass Effect 3... which I do not like.

That ghoul bastard Roy Philips from Fallout 3 and his ghoul bastard lackies. I spent god knows how many hours and caps bribing and persuading the humans to let the ghouls in so that we don't have to kill them and what does this fucker do? HE KILLS THEM ANYWAY!! I have never been closer to lobbing my TV out the window then at that moment, I just settled with reducing all the ghouls into red smears on the walls and floor.
You too? I hate that prick!
More room for another Roy Philips hater?
After I finished that quest and found the bodies, I blew his head off, then raged when I lost karma. Seriously!? I'm losing karma for killing a guy who murdered everyone who was about to accept him!?

Liara T'Soni in Mass Effect 1 earned a particular amount of annoyance from me for a number of reasons. Part of that was due to annoyance that this shy, awkward nerdy girl had to join my team of certified badasses on a mission to save the galaxy (I admit though that we kind of needed her help) but mostly it was because of how she was romanced.

I really hate the idea of the perfect love interest being this shy awkward damsel in distress type who nervously makes approaches at you and seems in awe of your greatness. I have always found this fantasy very immature, Liara is personified as the ideal girlfriend with all the smarts and prettiness and friendliness combined with the degree of awkwardness and hero worship, but there always felt like there was a lack of genuine personality and chemistry.

After a while I got really sick of hearing her awkwardly talking to me and maintaining that after all of two conversations between us that there must be some kind of romantic connection between us. Plus her being nice all the time just isn't normal or believable. Plus, perhaps most annoying of all, they make sure to let me know that she's a virgin.

I mean really? The shy awkward but very sexy geekling develops a damsel in distress style crush on the big tough rugged manly hero and if they consummate their relationship it means that she has given him her virginity? I'm sorry but that fantasy always rubbed me off the wrong way, I can accept the sexy blue chick idea but at the same time Liara just bugged the crap out of me.

From her constantly getting headaches and nearly passing out after doing the meld, for constantly asking really dumb questions where the answer was obvious, from being so helpless that she latches on to whatever tough authority figure happens to be nearby for protection, to automatically announcing feelings for Shepard almost as soon as she arrives on the Normandy and for being awkward out of a seemingly complete lack of self esteem.... I cannot fathom why her romance was so popular.

Seriously, Ashley was in my own opinion miles better than Liara. True she was tough and aggressive but the flaws made her feel more real, her attitude gave her much more personality and in her romance she wasn't shy or awkward about expressing herself sexually. She remains jokey and self assured and independent and to me at least, always seemed like Shepard's equal.

To her credit, Liara does get better in Mass Effect 2. Stronger, more determined, tougher and more confident and in control. I suppose one can technically argue then that it was a major part of growing up between the two games but still I don't feel that makes the romance in Mass Effect 1 any better. But for what its worth, if the current version of Liara T'soni was present in Mass Effect 1 I might have been more inclined to give her a shot.

Plus what's kind of annoying is that because she is guaranteed to live she also gets all this extra attention. She gets a comic where it is made clear that she is Shepard's savior, she then gets a huge story arc and a giant slab of DLC all to herself (including pretty much getting the rights to the ideal 'reunion' romance scene) and yet more guarantee to live to the third game.
It goes without saying that she'll be the 'canon' romance in the Mass Effect movie, I mean by Christ everything about the games so far seems to be telling me that Liara should have been the way that I go and the actual romance subplot that I liked was one that will be eclipsed by Liara.

Look I have a lot of respect to the Liara fanbase, they've been good to me and all the other Ashley/Kaiden fans on the Bioware social network. I repeat that Liara come Lair of the Shadow Broker and how she was portrayed in Mass Effect 2 is a vast improvement over what she was before and I could even go so far as to say that she is now 'awesome', but I still didn't like her romance in Mass Effect 1 and I am really bitter about the lack of any attention I get as an Ashley fan in Mass Effect 2. So perhaps that element of spite is also a reason.

Just to be be clear, I mean no offense to anyone.
Interesting, I never really thought about the ME1 romance on those terms. I think it comes across quite differently if you romance her as a female shep (I never play male, and this didn't get to go for Ash :( the cut-content Ash-Femshep was great too), but the scenarios you describe above, I can kinda see your point. I do really like that it's a romance you can carry on from one game to the next though.
As fo hated NPCs, I hate every character you have to escort ever.
Also Udina is a prick. And Caesar from New Vegas, actually, if you play as a female character, all the legion are a shower of pricks.

Was that copy/pasted from before or did you just have a lot of time on your hands? Just curious.

OT: Maybe she's not a racist if you're really nitpicking but that doesn't take away the fact that she's still religious *scowl*.
