*sigh* someone has to say companion cube, it might as well be me
other than that, not at all, quite fun killing them really...although when you have to, it lessens the fun a bit

Do shadows of colossus count? I felt so much regret after each one.
Most certainly. Afterall, are they really EVIL or something? No one really knows I think, and that's what will drive the guilt about such 'creatures' as well.

I almost felt something after selling bumble into slavery (fallout 3) but I might just have been hungry. I don't feel bad about killing in games

I feel strong regret for killing civilians, teammates and the like, so much so that I reset the game if I do.

I can't bring myself to "harvest" the little sisters in Bioshock. I played it again with the intent of harvesting them just to see the other ending (after already winning it by rescuing them all), but I couldn't go through with it.

I felt bad for some of the people in Megaton. Those who weren't completely unlikable anyways. But a choice between a grotty old hut or a luxury suite with a robot servant, I'm afraid it has to go kaboom.

There was that time in the Pitt

SPOILER ALERT

when I had to decide whether or not I should kidnap Marie (the baby/antidote). It took me 10 minutes to decide what I was going to do. because either way it sucked. Either I deprive this kid of both her parents or I let the parents keep her and let a whole group; of slaves suffer. and It wasn't like Ashur was doing a truly terrible job. Even he admitted that slavery was bad but he had to have them work until the pitt was on it's feet. I did end up taking her though. The whole needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. But that doesn't mean I had to like it.
Yeh i know what ur saying i ended up leaving the baby because i just felt that i couldnt kidnap a baby and i didnt like that the guys lied to me about the antidote all along. (dont remember the names of the people who want to kidnap the baby=).

Captain Emmy Malin [http://www.wowwiki.com/Captain_Emmy_Malin]. You have to kill her to stop the Blue Dragonflight from destroying the magic leylines of the planet, only to find out she'd been threatened into working for the Blues through threats on her family's life. She was trying to sabotage them from the inside as well. You even get a letter from her father in the mail later on telling you that he doesn't blame you. I felt like a right bastard :(
Yeh i did that one :O i got depressed.... and then later on my horde character i did it again! only to feel like a bastard yet again and discover that the troll you kill in the next part of the quest is in a wee bit of a similar siutation..... felt so evil xD

To those of you who dont know me (which is about anyone outside my friends) im a maniacal heartless asshole when it comes to games i ll shoot somebody in the legs just to laugh as they suffer and will put a shotgun in someones face for looking at me i blame growing up with spyro and crash bandicoot.

But something weird happened a few months ago whilst playing gta 4 i decided to kill dwayne so i go through murderising anything with a pulse until i get to dwayne who i kill quickly with a shot to the head then all of a sudden whilst looking at his body in a pool of blood i got a weird thought which i had never gotten whilst playing games, i just thought "oh god what have i done" after this i felt bad for a few weeks about killing him. though oddly ive never felt bad about killing anyone else since.

so who did you feel bad about killing the most in a game my freind says moira brown but i had fun killing her.
I felt bad about killing Dwayne but also Ivan the Terrible because Vlad was such an asshole and he seemed like a pretty nice guy.

The scene in Far Cry 2 in which your friends, even the ones you thought were dead, all come back, double cross you, and try to kill you. I have to admit, that game tugged at some feelings along the way, and since I was low on ammo by that point I wound up hacking all of my friends and allies to pieces with a machete in brutal first person. I felt dead inside afterwards. I really did. Tip of my hat to the game designers though, they arranged things such that should a player actually become attached to any of the allies in the game, they would be forced to kill them or lose the game. I would actually have probably been ok with losing at that point. I was heartbroken.

I feel I should contrast that statement with max payne 2, in which I used to cut off bystanders in mid sentence with a quick bullet to the head, followed immediately with giggle fits.

I think it all has to do with how well the game connects me to the npcs. Characters I'm just 'supposed to care about' I don't often actually care about, unless the game goes to the trouble of giving me a reason that I find compelling. Which isn't often.

Yes. When I accidentaly killed a friendly Stalker in (well, Stalker). He was shooting at some bandits and I was helping him but got in front of me and I shot him in the head. But then I got shot and loaded a save game.

Feel bad about killing NPCs?

You know how many times I've hit NPCs in old games, hoping they'd finally die?

It's funny how now that we're allowed to do it, I no longer care for it. I'm always the good guy, saving people doing the right thing and all. But I don't feel bad about killing NPCs.

Maybe if the writers would give them some more character, then yes. I might feel bad about it.
But with the blunt way developers are trying to make us care about characters it's hard to see the difference in, let's say, a cube and a person. A very friendly cube and the evil person that burned down your family.
They're exchangeable entities.
