I've never gotten angry over an entire review, but I have gotten pissed off about small comments some reviewers have made about some aspects of things that I enjoy.
Example stuck in my head right now (because I'm watching other reviews by him) is Film Brain's review on thatguywiththeglasses.com of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. I know this is a film review, but it's occupying my mind so fuck it.
To clarify: I fucking love that film and love the entire series in fact. And a few times he kept going back to the whole "dark tone for a kid's movie" thing, and it really bugged me. Mostly because I think for what the story was about, the tone was perfect for it. And secondly because I'm very much an advocate of not making everything all happy and sunshine smiles just because kids watch it.
I mean come on, the movie was a PG-13 in America and a 12 here in the UK. If any 12 or 13 year old kids can't handle Pirates of the Caribbean, then those kids are pussies. If they made it through the first two, there should be no problem.
Seperate examples include... actually, I get pissed off with Yahtzee's hyperbolic bitching quite often when he verbally eviscerates games that I like. But that's just because I tend to get annoyed whenever anyone really overplays a minor aspect and uses it to slag off the entire product.
And one I got pissed off about was... I can't remember the game, but it was a Gamespot review (I think) and you know they do those "Pros and Cons" list in their written reviews? One of the cons was "too many features". I think it was [Prototype] actually... it was something like that. But I distinctly remember reading that Con and thinking "you're kidding, right? How can having a lot of stuff in a game possibly be a bad thing?".
Made even worse if it actually WAS [Prototype] since the only "features" in that game are the side distractions... and if you don't want to bother with them, then fucking don't! If they were referring to the abilities you get... you don't have to use all of them!
OH! and Gamespot's GTA4 review irked the shit out of me too. This one is entirely because they had about 3 or 4 things listed in the "Cons" section, yet still gave the game 10/10 score. And I'm of the thinking that if a game isn't perfect, you shouldn't be giving it a perfect score! And if you do give it a perfect score, at least don't make the list of Cons equally as long as the list of Pros, because then you just come off as either idiots, very easily impressed idiots, or easily-bought-off idiots.
