After reading the comments of Jim Sterling's new Battlefield 3 review I'm left baffled about why people can get angry over one small review, so I want personal stories about when you got angry about a review.

So, have you gotten angry at a review and if you have can you explain to me why?

If you like something too much, its easy.

I admit to being annoyed at Space Marine reviews, especially at the charges leveled about gears cloneship (i don't own the one of three platforms gears is available for, so suggestions to play gears instead fall upon deaf ears). But to paraphrase a recent comment on this website, my fandom of warhammer falls just short of cosplay.

Pretty much every PC-gamer magazine review, they barely reviews games anymore and just slap a score to it.

I have a couple that I use as examples of "how not to review a game". I don't care about whether the reviewer liked a game, I'm talking about the review itself.

Not angry, but I am disappointed and a little annoyed when the reviewer is either clearly not getting the game (as in, I've played the game and the only logical response to all their complaints is:"You only think that because you suck at this game") or just flatout states they don't like the genre and don't know much about it. I get that professional reviewers sometimes have to review games they're not interested in, but what's the point of a review from the perspective of somebody who doesn't get the game or genre? Isn't the whole point of a professional review to prevent that?

As for getting angry about content/opinions: I don't understand those people. Different people have different tastes. If the reviewer didn't like the game, big fucking deal, I say. It's much more important to me that I get information about the game than an opinion. This is why I bought Nier after reading/watching 3 negative reviews which all said "do not buy this game": the reviews gave me enough information to make my own decision.

Reviews are subjective. Another person voicing their opinion, whether or not it coincides with mine, doesn't make me mad.

The only thing that would ruffle my feathers is if someone were to present information that is clearly false and can be proven so with a simple Google search. Hopefully that doesn't happen too often.

I've never gotten angry over an entire review, but I have gotten pissed off about small comments some reviewers have made about some aspects of things that I enjoy.

Example stuck in my head right now (because I'm watching other reviews by him) is Film Brain's review on thatguywiththeglasses.com of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. I know this is a film review, but it's occupying my mind so fuck it.

To clarify: I fucking love that film and love the entire series in fact. And a few times he kept going back to the whole "dark tone for a kid's movie" thing, and it really bugged me. Mostly because I think for what the story was about, the tone was perfect for it. And secondly because I'm very much an advocate of not making everything all happy and sunshine smiles just because kids watch it.

I mean come on, the movie was a PG-13 in America and a 12 here in the UK. If any 12 or 13 year old kids can't handle Pirates of the Caribbean, then those kids are pussies. If they made it through the first two, there should be no problem.

Seperate examples include... actually, I get pissed off with Yahtzee's hyperbolic bitching quite often when he verbally eviscerates games that I like. But that's just because I tend to get annoyed whenever anyone really overplays a minor aspect and uses it to slag off the entire product.

And one I got pissed off about was... I can't remember the game, but it was a Gamespot review (I think) and you know they do those "Pros and Cons" list in their written reviews? One of the cons was "too many features". I think it was [Prototype] actually... it was something like that. But I distinctly remember reading that Con and thinking "you're kidding, right? How can having a lot of stuff in a game possibly be a bad thing?".

Made even worse if it actually WAS [Prototype] since the only "features" in that game are the side distractions... and if you don't want to bother with them, then fucking don't! If they were referring to the abilities you get... you don't have to use all of them!

OH! and Gamespot's GTA4 review irked the shit out of me too. This one is entirely because they had about 3 or 4 things listed in the "Cons" section, yet still gave the game 10/10 score. And I'm of the thinking that if a game isn't perfect, you shouldn't be giving it a perfect score! And if you do give it a perfect score, at least don't make the list of Cons equally as long as the list of Pros, because then you just come off as either idiots, very easily impressed idiots, or easily-bought-off idiots.

A review is an opinion, I don't get angry at opinions unless they're based around incorrect information that the person is too stubborn to admit is wrong. Even at that point though, I'm not angry about the review itself, I'm mad at the reviewer personally.

I thought that those comments were hilarious. Plus, so many popcorn gifs!

There was this one astoundingly, jaw-droppingly terribad review of Homeworld which made me want to do nasty things.

There are opinions, then there's bullshit reasoning. Thankfully the site seems to have fallen into such obscurity that it's impossible to find now.

Factual inaccuracies annoy me, but I don't really get angry at reviews. I might disagree, even emphatically, but it's not my business to get angry with someone simply for having an opinion that differs from mine.

I have actually been put off with all the positive buzz towards Arkham City, but I can't tell if this is because I truly don't like Arkham City or if I'm so bummed (in a depressed state) that everything I'm feeling makes me think it sucks (i.e. I'm taking out my frustrations on the game)

So yes, I have been angry with reviews before, although this one is more recent.

I must admit, I was a little annoyed by The Escapist's review of The Witcher 2, which spent 2 pages moaning about the inventory interface, and didn't even attribute a single line to there being 2 completely separate middle acts, or the flexibility of the game's story.

I try to avoid getting pissed off with reviews that simply disagree with me, but if they're leaving out major stuff and people are going "won't buy it then", it can be irritating.

The Sonic Storybook reviews. They are clearly not great games and the fact that they believed that giving Sonic a sword in the second installment was going to work, they were sadly mistaken. If you found those two games fun, fine, whatever. All I'm saying that don't go around saying that they are good games because there are clearly several titles before and after these Storybook games that will prove you wrong.

Anyone who gets angry over arbitrary numbers and words probably has greater issues to deal with in their lives.

Not really. It's just a persons opinion.

I don't read a review to see if a game is good or bad I read it to see what is said about the contents of the game.

To be honest I don't give a shit about whether other people like what I like i'm still going to enjoy it.

I've been a Warhammer fan since 1990. I liked Fire Warrior, DoW, Mark of Chaos and I admit I quite enjoyed Age of Reckoning. Space Marine still has me hooked.

A lot of people slam WAR like it slept with their mothers but I really enjoyed it.

I know there are people that hate Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion and those are my 3 top games of all time so far. What other people have to say in reviews doesn't mean anything in regards to my enjoyment of a game.

Only if there are factual errors in the review.

Or when people <url=http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=449885>lie in their review. Oh, IGN, you need help.
