I dunno, I don't think that's totally fair a lot of game journalists do just copy press statements and write poorly worded reviews but I do think there are people who went in to games journalism who realy do care about gaming. For example say what you will about Jim Sterling you can tell that when he writes he actually cares about what he is writing even if it does come across inflamatory at times for another example vist the website No High Scores, they right truthfully cutting right through corporate bs and have some really well thought out essays, seriously just give them a visit.GreatTeacherCAW said:Reviews are simply the opinions of journalists that weren't good enough to do actual journalism, so it never really bothers me when someone dislikes something I like. The only reviews that make me angry are ones that make absolutely no sense, like 90% of anything in Game Informer. I mean, seriously. What qualifications do you need to work at Game Informer? 2 thumbs and the ability to wipe drool from your mouth?
Their scores are usually similar, if not identical, to IGN, which is fine. But what the reviewers write usually completely contradicts the score given, or just flat out has nothing to do with the game. For instance, Resonance of Fate was given a 6 (I think). But the entire review was just a paragraph or so about how awesome the game was. Contradicted the score entirely. Didn't even mention anything bad about the game.
In summary, I guess I only get angry at incompetent pseudo-journalists at half-assed publications, not the review itself.
TLDR: Alot of games journalists are hacks but there are some really passionate writers out there
