Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Beyblades, Duel Masters, and all that shit. The only ones that were actually fun were Pokémon and YGO.

Just Yu-Gi-Oh. Even though I thoroughly enjoyed Pokémon Red and Gold (read: obsessed), I never really got into the cards or even the TV-show.

With Yu-Gi-Oh on the other hand I made an awesome deck and made sure I watched every single episode of the anime. Nowadays I look back and laugh at it. Plus, because I actually joined the YGO fad, YGO The Adbridged Series is even funnier.

Back when I was like eleven, I watched the pokemon anime from TV, and downloaded the gameboy emulator and the pokemon roms for it. This was back when "pirate versions" were called warez.

I have never been into any fads. I like Pokemon but I don't think that counts becuase I liked it before it was cool and I still like it now, after it has stopped being cool. When Pokemon was a fad I was about 8.

What is it like to be part of a fad, I can't remember. Most fads that have come and gone I have thought to be retarded.

It was really hard to 'get into fads' at my school. Everything that was ever shown to be slightly popular was banned outright. The most successful one was those Beyblade things. Naturally, however, they were banned because some dipshit didn't read the "Do not put face near arena" sign, and got smacked in the face by one.

I was hugely into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle trading cards when I was 9, Batman trading cards when I was 11, and basketball trading cards when I was 13.

I also credit myself with starting a paper airplane fad in primary school. I brought in a couple of books with various designs, soon everyone was making them. As the owner of the books, though, I made the coolest ones :p

For a brief, dark period of my life in grade 4, I was, like the rest of my school, obsessed with beyblade toys. I only realized how ridiculous they were after watching the godawful TV show.

Pokemon Cards, didn't really get into it though.
I had a yo-yo but couldn't ever do any tricks. I couldn't even make the fucker 'sleep'.
I wonder if anyone who went to secondary school early 2000's remembers when EVERYONE had a denim jacket, followed by those coats that had fur around the hood.

More recently, touch screen phones, apparently no one like buttons any more!

In order it goes something like:

Yo-Yo's
Crazy Bones (think they're calling them Go-Go's now)
Pokemon
Digimon
Yu-Gi-Oh! (for a looooong time and was met with an insane amount of hostility)
Beyblades (Was also met with immense hostility)
Warhammer 40k (On a personal level this came and went rather quickly)
Pokemon (It literally came back for 1 day in 6th form)
Yu-Gi-Oh! (Like pokemon but lasted a bit longer)

Since people are saying Pokemon, I'll say this: as far as many of my friends and I are concerned, it wasn't just a fad, it was a goddamn cultural experience. A fad is just a little thing most people at school get into for a few months, Pokemon was a phenomenon that will stay with us.

Nostalgic gushing aside, I also got into Yugioh, and kinda am again courtesy of the Abridged Series. It did have long-term effects, though, as it prompted me to subscribe to Shonen Jump and thus indirectly got me into other manga (like Black Cat, for a relatively obscure example).

I was into Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, Beyblade, and by god I still bury my face in my hands when I think of all the money I could have used on more fun things.
