Warrior Within.

Whoever made it should be shot, whoever thought of putting it in the game should be shot, whoever liked it should be shot, and whoever prefers WW to the Sands of Time should be shot.

And whoever thought the Prince should go goth should be shot.
There was actually a really scary musical part in this game that I switched off regularly.

I tend to turn off the soundtrack of the games I play and have the mellifluous tones of Melvyn Bragg on In Our Time in the background instead.

Which now I think about it is rather odd.

Still, I suppose it combined education and recreation in a quasi-productive way. Nothing like playing Cossacks and having some hearty middle-class chuckling about the Jacobites on in the background.

i turn off the music MOST of the time.
only exceptions if the music helps the game.
This is me. 90% of the time my sounds are off/down and I'm rocking a dream theater or iron maiden or some such playlist only ever pausing the music for important cutscenes/dialogue.

E: though one game where I did not do this was the original metroid prime, when you're in the space pirate research station phendrana just before you get the thermal vision and the lights cut out and there are metroids jumping at you out of goddamn nowhere the music builds just the right level of tension.

any game that has lyrics in the music it gets shut off right away. and crap... sorry rap intro music that cant be shut off i simply shut my speakers off until i get into the audio controls and shut music off completly. in any FPS game i dont have music going because audio cues can mean the diferance between respawning or getting a kill especialy in multiplayer.

You know, I never have but people are always asking me to mute the music when we're playing Marvel Vs. Capcom 2. I think it's happy. But I suppose happy music doesn't go with superheroes and Japanese characters fighting.

I turned off Vanquish's music out of curiosity... there's hardly any ambient sound in that game! its really bad!

but I think Nier's music is fantastic, playing it right now (one of those bargain bin gems and i'm loving every minute)

Nope. Although, the crazy opera shit that goes on when you're wandering around Rome in AC:B gets really annoying.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky - Every time a fight started this god awful techno-something crap would start playing. I had no choice but to turn it off. A disappointing part of a disappointing game.

That's probably the only time a game's music was so harshly painful that I saw myself forced to turn it off.
Have to agree with the combat music being shity, but the ambient music I actually liked although it was not as good as it was in SoC.

Marvel Vs Capcom 3. God dammit, saying the exact same line over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, etc.

that got me angry. I think to counter some of this anger, I will say two game series that have the opposite effect on me, and I in fact actually got their soundtrack to listen to outside of the game.

Halo babeh. Halo 2 is, to this day, still my all time favorite soundtrack ever. And it deserves that if only for this beauty of a song, which is actually a remix of the original Halo theme.

And my beloved Mass Effect. This number is from ME2, and it's my personal favorite from the soundtrack.

Lyrics are overrated

Mass Effect at first, but then I got used to it

Edit: The first one, that is, I loved the 2nd one's music. But only some of the original MEs music. The epic fight scene ones were awesome!

Pray - don't remember anything else about the music but the fact that it annoyed the hell out of me.
Down of War - not bad music, I just got the feeling that it wanted to be more epic then it actually was so I had to turn it off so not to get distracted by it.
Fallout 3 - just so repetative, but thats probably because it's a fucking long game.

All the time durning GTA, but let me explain.

I made sure the radio was off when there was dialogue between charcters, IDK I wanted to listen, More so in GTA IV, Sometime's I always left it off just so I could listen to the Funny comments from NPC's as I drove on sidewalks or shot ouit the windows, I Did that ALOT in Vice City, But sometimes I turned off the music just because I didn't like most of it and the only time I did this was in GTA Liberty City Stories.

Hm...
WoW, it got boring fast.
Deadly Premonition, vastly inappropriate to mood and typically set much louder then the dialogue (can really notice it in the scene when you talk to the innkeeper for the first time at breakfast). Then again that game was vastly inappropriate to mood and setting most of the time.
I wished I could turn off the music to Grandia II in that first tower area, that same set of notes, loud, obnoxious and repeating over and over and over and over and over.
MvC's 'I wanna take you for a ride' I always mute the TV if people are lingering on the character selection screen.

No I haven't had to turn music off because it was bad, not so far at least. I do put on my own music while I train or grind in a game.

Starcraft. And Diablo. And World of Warcraft. All Blizzard games actually, except Lost Vikings, which apparently was the last fun-to-play Blizzard game.
I loved the Starcraft music but not so much the Starcraft 2 stuff.

OT: I usually turn off the tracks present in the FIFA games, especially after you've heard them over and over or they are just plain wierd.
