But every once in a while I try to encourage them to pick up a real guitar, but they won't do it. They say that it takes too much practice.

No, but most of the people I know who play the guitar can't play GH or RB for shit. I play the drums IRL, and I find it easier to play on a more difficult level then an easier one in the game.

Considering that people who get that good at Guitar Hero tend to be nerds on a level even I haven't attained, they also tend to be too smart to think they could actually play guitar just because they can play guitar hero. I think the "guy who is good at guitar hero, and assumes he knows guitar too" is a made up stereotype that some comedian made knowing it would be funny.
