Company of Heroes is my answer. I have a lot of respect for the game, but I can't stand to play it. I rarely have fun with it when I do.

World of Warcraft. I simply did not find it fun. I respect its ability to keep people playing.

Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3.

No, seriously. I really did not like this game at all. It felt completely unoriginal (for gods sake just listen tot he american engineer and soviet apocalypse tanks if you've played RA2), and incredibly similar to C&C 3. Sure it was built on the same engine, but so were BF2 and BF2142 and they managed to have things mixed around completely. EA has pretty much vaporized the command and conquer storyline now. Even at the end of Red Alert (the first one) you see Kane. Lord an master of NOD, Kane. Then they released red alert 2 (don't get me wrong, it was a kickass game) which was completely unrelated to the C&C storyline. They completely killed it by released C&C generals. And to be honest, C&C 3 was pretty much a blockbuster film of gaming. Red Alert 3 felt too similar to C&C 3 in gameplay, and too similar to red alert 2 in storyline and other things. They even repeated the mistake of making the 3rd faction the most bullshittedly powerful again.

And couldn't they have started out WITHOUT time travel this time? I know it's so far been what causes a lot of storyline in red alert, but this time they're just pulling crap out of their asses. Even red alert and red alert 2 explained why the soviets took the initiative when time was tampered with. This time it's just HOLY CRAP WE'RE BEING SHOT AT WHATS GOING ON WHY ARE THEY ATTACKING WHAT GAVE THEM THE MIND TO DO SO!?

And the game is continuously declining in singleplayer campaign difficulties, and making no changes to multiplayer strategies. Don't any of you remember having to do those few annoying ass missions on red alert where you had to actually THINK of how to complete the mission, rather than just run in guns blazing towards the objective marker while you can easily outnumber any enemies you encounter?

I really like the C&C series but Red Alert 3 was simply not that great a game to me. It had very little originality, and didn't feel "new." Sure I know some people like it, but that's usually because of extreme fanboyism (no harm intended), overhyping, or peer pressure.

i'd say the Halo Series, It was alright to me, but not the phenomenal milk of the gods, that some people would tell me. I always preferred Killzone to Halo.

Half Life 2. A very clever game which bored me to death.
GTA4. I love the detail they put into the game world, scripting and acting. I just don't really like playing it.
Ultima Online (and probably most MMOs TBH). Loads of detail, hidden in a sea of tedious, tedious grind.

MGS 4 for me. I appreciate how they tried so hard to create a deep and meaningful story, I really do, but unfortunately the execution just wasn't there and it failed to involve me at all.

EDIT: This applies to all MGS's really, but MGS 4 was the starkest example.

For ones that I really didn't make it through, I found Killer 7 intersting and ambitious, but so very unfun in its execution.

Little Big Planet, while very charming, kind of puts me off with its somewhat dodgy controls, but I really love its charm and atmosphere. That and I REALLY don't like platformers.

Killzone 2, yes the graphics were fantastic, yes the gameplay was excellent, yes the atmosphere was great, yes the boss fights were fun. It's just... god... Rico... Garza... Natco... if you all just shut the hell up I would REALLY enjoy this game but NOOOOOO you have to spout your annoying dialogue ALL THE TIME! Even Call of Duty 3's aweful, aweful story was better than this.

Fallout 3 (kinda), I really enjoyed the first play through, well, except the ending. But knowing how shallow the overall storytelling is and how unrewarding the sidequest plots are (ex. The Dunwich Building) I just haven't been able to bring myself to replay it. Also the enemy variety is really small, something I didn't notice the first time, I got really bored of fighting the same Super Mutants, Rad Scorpions and Bears over and over again and killing them in exactly the same way every time. But of course I respect it, it's deep and open ended and very, very pretty.

Grand Theft Auto 4, technically impressive, interestingly plotted, great characters, good gunfighting system but in the end it's the shit tastic Car Controls that really ensured that I would never really enjoy playing this game. They made driving an almost unbearable chore and they really suck for that. I'll stick with Saints Row 2, where driving is fun. Also, Brucie, I really, really hate Brucie.

Bioshock, I love the story and atmosphere but.... The weapon and the character models fealt toylike or doll like if you ask me. It kinda threw me off.
I gotta agree with you here, the character models in Bioshock are rather clumsily pieced together and they don't bear up to close inspection... the perfect example is the scene near the beginning when the two splicers are discussing what to do with yuo before the 'metal daddy' arrives...

I don't know if this one has been said already, but I would have to say Mass Effect. The story was truly well written. It did an incredible job of immersing you in the world, all the way down to the journal entries describing how the technology of the world works and problems they have to deal with, such as draining heat from the ships. However, the game play itself was incredibly tedious. I really wanted to play the game, just to see what happened in the story, but I couldn't because the game was so boring. Yeah, I had jedi-like force powers, but I could only use them once a minute. The rest of the game consisted of me traveling between almost identical barren rocks, driving around, and shooting things with my shotgun or pistol. Not only that, but I could not use my team mates at all. They give you a few combat orders to make your team move around, but they couldn't use half of their skills, such as lockpicking/hacking and first aid.

BioShock - I found it something of high quality, but I could never really enjoy it. Not certain why.

Lost Odyssey, a game I felt was epic and deserved its credits for the story but I could never really enjoy it as gameplay was interuppted too much and because of this the level need to match the enemies jumped quite drastically at times meaning I would have to grind and farm constantly.

Resident Evil 4. It's taken me forever to get further in that game. I still haven't beaten it, and I've probably had it for a year. While I respect just about every non-storyline aspect of the game, I just don't find it addictive the way other people do. Every time I try to get further in the game, I feel like I'm punishing myself. It feels like work to me.

God Hand, however, I could play all day.

I'd put Okami up here as well, except that I'm not sure I "respect" it. I don't think it's half as innovative and original as professional reviewers (and probably Capcom themselves) think it is. I can go into detail if somebody wants me to (I did play the entire game through), but I'll just say I found it underwhelming and overlong.

Dragon Quest 8.

I loved it, but it kicked my ass so hard I left.

I never got past Doulmagus' Wolf Form on the island.

World of Warcraft. I will never dispute Blizzard's place as masterful developer, and I'm sure WoW is one of the best MMO's there is. I respect it for its setting, as I love Warcraft III.

But I never felt a connection to my character, nor did I feel like I was making a difference ever. What was the point, I thought, as I shuffled the bloodied carcasses of boars to procure hoofs, when millions of other people of all races of Azeroth had already killed Illidan before me. At the rate I was going, I was going to be harvesting the fruits of combat with the indigenous woodland critters for ages. I was never going have a party of entertaining warriors and bards and wizards. I was never going to be able to pursue a romance with one of the many characters I had encountered in my travels. I was never going to be able to stand in front of a room quarreling humans and ogres and tell then the real threat was the Scourge. I couldn't make a difference, I never felt like I mattered; I was simply another offering to the underwhelming desire to garner XP for the sole purpose of getting better at earning XP.

Single-Player RPGs for me, thank you very much!

FFXII. I respected that, and as a Square-Fanboy I tried to have fun with it, but the game was just too dissapointing. =/ Hope FFXIII Can make up for it though.

GTA4 is another one. I love GTA, but something about GTA4 really took the fun out of it. Maybe the lame little missions, or the fact that it's impossible to get anywhere because I fly through my windshield for every little bump...

Also, post above me: I couldn't agree more about World of Warcraft.

I'd have to go with the Mario games (except for Mario Galaxy). See I never got the original Super Mario Bros. when I got my NES. My cousin gave that console to me (he had used it for like 3 months) but he didn't give it to me with the Super Mario Bros./Duck hunt combo, instead I got Metroid and Mike Tyson's Punch Out. When I finally got my hands on Mario I had already played a whole bunch of games that I eventually considered better, so there was absolutely no WOW factor with my first Mario experience.

That pretty much set the tone of my additude towards all Mario games that came after. I played them all, but it was purely out of a combination of respect, curiosity and hope that I would maybe get into the whole Mario universe. It never happened, because playing Mario game after Mario game I was constantly left with a very pronounced MEH after each experience. I have to admit that I did enjoy Super Mario Galaxy, but I just can't hold Mario up in a pedestal like I do with Zelda, Metroid, Resident Evil, etc.

The game that I respect was a game series called Total War. This series was alot like a giant chess game only more elaborate. An RTS.

I respect the game due largely to it's historical moments and stories, but I could never get into RTSs

Bioshock mostly.

It looked nice and it had a good story and it had Quark from Star Trek in it but I just don't care for shooty-shooty games.

Not to mention I'm such a jumpy tw*t that every slightest mumble in the sound effects track made me scream so loud my husband dropped his mouse.

Every Resident Evil game I've ever played - with the exception of Umbrella Chronicles.

I'm not good with scary games, and even though I thought RE4 was fantastic in many ways I never got more than a few hours into it.

Umbrella Chronicles is such a mindless game that you can't really get too attached or scared. It's a lot of fun but there is no involvement for the player other than aiming and hitting the trigger.
