I think I get that way with most of the console games. Yeah, Gears of War. Yeah, Boomblox. Yeah, Kratos and stuff like that. Halo too.

Sorry, just don't interest me in the slightest. I don't think I've played a next gen console game yet that I'd actually go out and pay for.

I would have to say Gears of War. I currently play and enjoy Gears 2, but I never got into Gears 1. I respected the fact that it was a monumental game for its time and that it was very well executed, but i just couldnt convince myself to like it.

The Total War series gets my vote here. I can see that there is something fun in there somewhere: I just can't grasp it myself.

EDIT: Ninja'd! But my vote still stands.

EDIT x2: How could I forget the GTA series? Especially this latest installment. I just can't have the fun that I can in the Saint's Row games in GTA 4.

Fallout 3

I've made many attempts to get into the game, and despite the praise I've seen it given and the fact I know I should be enjoying a lot of what I experience, I just... Don't.

Street Fighter. It singlehandedly fueled the entire fighting genre, but I just cannot stand playing it. HOW it did it I can't see. All I see is a poor fighting game, but obviously they did something right that I am missing, so I respect that.

any MGS. they are all made with attention to detail, great ammounts of class, and dedication to the audience. kojima really pours his soul into those games, yet they never become those developer pet games, probably because of its huge fanbase. yet whenever I play any of them I am quickly confused by the plot, quickly frustrated by the gameplay, and before you know it i'm back to playing something else, usually of a fraction the production value.

Any game that is really popular, but I didn't like, I still have to respect it. If everyone loves Game X, but I hate it, I still have to respect it since it must be doing something right for so many people to like it.

I respect Halo 3's multiplayer - the Forge and saved film features add a ton of flexibility for things like amateur level design and machinima. But aside from an obligatory run through the single-player campaign, I had no interest in playing it.

I also respect Metal Gear Solid 4 as the culmination of a certain school of Japanese videogame-making, but there's no way I'll ever wade through a game made up of so many cut scenes.

I feel the same about gears as all of you. Also:

Perhaps Star wars: kotor. It must be said that I got to play the game late, like when the 360 had been around for a year. But anyway, I understand how people can like it because you can be what you want, you have a pretty good sense of freedom, the story is well handled, and you can choose whatever you want to say to everyone. But for some reason I didnt enjoy it. I found the combat a little boring and lost interest in the story after a while. And I found the framerate to be a bit of a *****. :/ Same goes for morrorwind. I guess I easily loose interest in games with a lot of freedom.

I also didnt enjoy okami that much. It was very original and thats something I really like, but I got kind of tired of the waggly combat on the wii, and the lack of puzzles that required as much thinking as regular zelda puzzles.

Last: super mario galaxy. Its a superb and polished game in so many ways, but for some reason I didnt enjoy it that much. Perhaps the game worlds was a little too linear (without secrets to find), and a little too easy. I would still rate it as one of the best games ever though :p

edit: and the rts genre in general.

Warhammer Online for me. The design of it is great, there are some fantastic ideas implemented, and the story is pretty well rounded. But every time I sat down to play it I got a headache, and I don't know why. I couldn't just get into it.

I also found Okami to be a little testing at times, it got very repeditive at points and the pacing really dips about 25 hours in, although by the end it picks up and delivers a really great climax.

Shadow of the Colossus has got to be my choice here though, as a few people here already know (to their utter horror :D), I thought the game's atmosphere and look was amazing but I didn't enjoy playing it much because I was getting so angry and frustrated all the time because I sucked at it and the controls were a bit broken :D

Personally, I thought Lair looked great when it first came out, but when I actually bought it, I realised that it wasn't exactly enjoyable to play, so I sold it the next day...

Icewind Dale II. The reviews said it was great, the manual was packed full of 200 pages of information and spells, and it ran on the d20 system. I was fully expecting myself to love the game. Instead, I was never able to get into it, making it approximately three or four hours into a single file before never playing it again. The whole GUI of the game felt tedious and uncomfortable, even though I got it when it came out. The enemies either felt overpowered or underpowered, spells seemed difficult to use in combat, and the entire combat system seemed to hectic to properly play with six characters. It still lies in my game collection, trying to lure me back into playing it.

Most final Fantasy games, I've played all the recent ones, and I've liked all the respective stories, but I've just never been able to finish them because the level grinding just gets boring to me after a while.

Just about any roguelike aside from Nethack. They're awesomely technical, are obviously labors of love, but damn if they aren't boring. I couldn't play Dwarf Fortress for more than hour before shutting it off and going to read a book.

A lot of point and click adventure games are like this too: A Vampyre Story being the most recent case of this. I respect that it's a game that does not involve killing and bashing people, and the subject matter is actually kind of interesting, but no...no, I just couldn't play it for more than an hour.
