Fable 2.
I loved the first game, and I completely respect where the franchise is trying to go and do. But, there was at no point that I thought to myself. "I love this game."

Nope. I don't like games because magazines tell me to, and respecting a game while not liking it sounds retarded.

Sins of a Solar Empire.

This game has everything it needs to go down in history as one of the great RTSes, and the addition of Entrenchment has made defensive strategies viable... increasing the options avaliable to the player.

Online competitive multiplayer just really isn't my thing, though, I'm too old, and the lack of a deep 4x single player mode causes me to rapidly lose interest. I bought it on release, i love it, i reccomend it to everyone... I just don't play it.

The first Halo falls under this category. I just couldn't get into the game, the graphics were nice the game play was good but it just wasn't fun even in co-op or online play. The game just wasn't fun for me. But I'm sure that I'm the odd man out in this opinion.

Shadow of the Colossus - Ico is one of my favourite games ever and SotC is a brilliant game as well; both games are worthy of respect. However, as much as I enjoyed SotC's gameplay and atmosphere, the appalling frame-rate ruined the enjoyment. I suspect it was because they decided to make it in high-res so as not to get accused of "holding back evolution" or some such. Ico was low-res and looked equally impressive, if not more.

The Metal Gear Solid series - the original Metal Gear Solid for the PSone was an amazing game, rightfully earning cult status. The opening minutes of MGS2 looked promising, but then the game (and later on, the series) devolved into a ton of good ideas, criminally underused in order to secure more cutscene time. I respect the effort that went into all the games, they really blurred the line between film and game, but that's also the factor that diminished my enjoyment - I wanted to play, not watch. On a different note, the Gamecube-exclusive (why?) MGS: The Twin Snakes, a remake of the original PSone game, was great in theory (the amazing story of MGS combined with the amazing graphics and mechanics of MGS2) but I didn't enjoy it because of a) poor frame-rates and b) bad (and unnecessary) re-recording of the voice-overs. While in the original PSone game the actors brought the story to life with some amazing performances, on the Gamecube they sounded like they were phoning it in.

Jak 2 - once again, the original Jak & Daxter was a fine game, but Jak 2 took a wrong turn at the "open world" crossroads and wound up being more gimmicky than needed. Plus, Jak had a voice (there goes his silent-hero charm) and a goatee (for the love of whatever you hold holy). Respect for the technical side, but I didn't enjoy the game - in fact, the most enjoyable moment was when I found out the "secret" option to turn off the goatee.

Warcraft 3 - is it a RTS? Is it a RPG? No, it's a RTSRPGMMOpilot. I've always respected Blizzard as a developer (though their behaviour of late has shaken my faith significantly) but I didn't enjoy WC3 anywhere near as much as I enjoyed StarCraft.

There are lots more examples of such cases for me, as I am a picky gamer, but those are the worst offenders in my opinion.

The Halo franchise, I respect the graphical achievements, gameplay mechanics, and how it was launched into popular culture and basically comes to mind first when you ask any non gamers about video games. However I could not get into the story at all, and didn't require very much strategy. I still respect it for what it did for the industry though.

Bioshock.
It was a wonderfully unique game with a great story, but i just couldnt get into as much as everyone else.
I wont say that i didnt enjoy it, just not as much as i should of.

(edit)
That and it had alot of fetch quests which had you going back and forth through the same areas, and I cant stand those kinda missions.
Have to agree with this, I like the game and want to finish it but it's just not fun to play for more then 30 minutes to an hour at a time.

I'm seeing GTA 4 pop up a lot. I feel like that's become a game we feel obligated to praise even though no one I've spoken to seems to feel extremely passionate towards it. I wonder if it's a game that's more conceptually than actually appealing.

Yeah, came in to post BioShock. The story and concept were great, and the atmosphere was fantastic, but it just wasn't fun. At all.

dude. jak 2 was where the series went from a fun, methodical, basic (and pathetically short and easy) platformer, to something beautiful. there was an actual story, well designed tasks, proper characters great gameplay and so much more. also, the "mute hero" is idiocy, it seems like a tradition that's just stuck for no particular reason.

i wouldn't bother, but i literally can't understand your points.

Has to be Odin Sphere. That game was so hard, I barely got to get very far into it, and quit, but it was so good in the way of a side scrolling rpg beat-em-up kinda thing.

Exactly, I WANT to like it but I just can't play it because it just wasn't fun. And it's too bad because everything is a great concept on it's own but it just doesn't come together like it should.
