Have you ever played a really recent game that is just so great it tops your old favorites?

Nothing will ever top Deus Ex and Mass Effect 1 for me, though Mass Effect 2 comes really close.

Edit: thanks internet, now I look like a complete moron

Hmmm, well for me the problem is that they don't generally my favorite genere of RPG anymore (where you can create your own party it it's entirety). Thus Wizardry 8 remains at the top of my list.

A lot of very good games recently, but none that have become my all time favorite. Out of the recent crop I'd say "Dragon Age: Origins" is my favorite, but definatly not my favorite of all time.

My "ultimate" games list also includes things like "Master Of Magic" (turn based strategy), so take that for what it's worth. I just generally do not prefer the direction modern game development has gone in. It's not that I fear change or anything, it's just that I don't think what they are doing now is as good. But then again understand my reflexs have never been great, and I game mostly as an intellecual exercise it takes a lot to get me to enjoy a really "twitch" based game (though it happens), and things like quick time events are anethema to me because I'm just not that quick. It took me like 6 tries to get past the "Rain Coat Killer" at the beginning of Deadly Premonition since the button prompt was so fast, and if I failed it, I just couldn't move the thumbstick back and forth fast enough to survive.

E.D.F. 2017 is simple and very entertaining. I found myself grinding through levels to get the more powerful weapons to kill giant ants, robots, and alien fighter ships.

What kind of question is that? Of course when you play your favourite game for the 1st time it tops what was your favourite game up until that point... I mean it's impossible to say no to this question (well unless the 1st game you ever played is still your favourite, but that's one in a million gamer).

Plants vs Zombies (still semi recent) is now in my top10 games.
Mass Effect 2 was great, I still value my time with 1 as more fun but It is on even footing.
Left 4 Dead 2 made me like multiplayer FPS games that look semi realistic.

Illusion of Gaia hands down, I've had it for awhile but until now could never beat the first boss, damn annoying guy, anyways so yeah it's basically my favorite game right now

Left 4 Dead 2, it just exceeds every zombie game I have ever played (and obviously its prequel) for perfecting the most addicting kill-sequence ever: dismembering a zombie - and in large amounts.

Used to play resident evil 4 constantly before left 4 dead. used to play left 4 dead all the time b4 2 and 2 has sealed the deal.

Since Half-Life 2, I've played two DS games: Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney, and Elite Beat Agents, which are both vying for top shelf.

I LOVED Legend of Zelda the Windwaker, but Dead Rising was just SOOO amazing it took that spot and still dominates the top of my games list. I finished getting all the achievements for it on 4.4.2009. Coming close though are L4D, Mass Effect 1, SC: Conviction(it would be my fav but it didn't have a good versus mode), and Team Fortress 2.

EDIT: oh, and L4D as in 1 for Campaigns, 2 for Versus and the wonderful Scavenge mode

Starcraft 2, I finally got into the beta after three years (I pre-ordered at gamestop when it first became avaliable three years ago), and holy fucking shit it blew my mind. It decimated all of my other RTS favorites, warcraft 3 beaten, original starcraft beaten, Dawn of war one and two beaten, the list goes on. It was worth every day of the wait and for that it earned the spot at the top of my rankings list.

I'd Have to say....No.

I found a Dreamcast in my Basement Yesterday and can easily say that my PS3 is crying itself to sleep.

Captain Pirate said:
Aliens vs Predator multiplayer beats Fallout 3 for most immersive experience IMO. You genuinely get quite nervous or even scared when doing AVP multiplayer, or at least I do.
wait, you mean the the new one right?

No. Never found a recent game which topped my old favourites but have found old games which topped my recent favourites.
