Have you ever replayed a 'bad' game later on and changed your mind?

I did. With Oblivion. At first, I was overwhelmed with the scope of it, and the immediate imperative-seeming nature of the main story... until I played it months later after someone told me you could ignore the main story completely. Now I love it to death and can't wait for Skyrim.

Has something like this ever happened to you?

Fallout 3 is on my list. I despised the way it played and the buggery which stuffed up the experience even more. A few months later I tried again an managed to get into it.

Bioshock. I played the beginning like three times, and just couldn't see why people liked it so much. Installed it a fourth time, got a little further, started to get into the story, and started to really like it (mind, I still don't think it's as good as a lot of people say, but still pretty decent).

Also Bad Company 2. I played the beta (which was more like early-access, it was just a few days before release and very little was changed before 0day) and really hated it, canceled my preorder and just pretty much forgot about it for a time. Three months later, I impulse-bought it anyway and loved it. Now it's my "main" online game.

Brink. I played it at a friends house for a little while, and was unimpressed. A few months later (Today) I saw it cheap at a Gamestop and decided to give it another try. I'm really starting to get into it.

Kingdom Hearts. I started playing it, stopped playing at the Tarzan level because I just didnt feel like playing it at all for some reason. Had it just sitting on my desk for atleast a year, then decided to give it another shot and now its one of my favorite series of games. Go figure.

Fallout 1 and 2. Tried them because I heard people gush about them. Hated them. Then I tried them again. Liked them. Then I got farther. And I ended up not quite liking them again... I don't know how I feel...

I bought Crysis 2 the day it came out (I didn't know it actually came out that day, but I was interested to play it). I got about a third of the way through and then stopped playing it. I wouldn't say the game was bad (It was not great, either). I tried playing it a couple of times over about four months, and then finally just picked it up and forced myself to continue. About an hour into that, I really, really started to enjoy the game, and was then completely enthralled in it all the way to the end. Even my flatmate came out to watch me play and was all "Holy shit, you totally just slammed that alien thing in the balls!" and such. Good times.

Mario Kart Wii. Bought it, threw a hissy fit over the AI, traded it in for something I forget (might have been Pokemon Black), bought it again, played it a bit more and loved it. But I haven't played it since the last time a friend was over at my place, and that was a while ago.

Despite the fact that its one of my favourite games ever, I started out hating Skies of Arcadia with a passion. I got stuck near the beginning of the game, I didn't realize that you had to fly into the mist to trigger a cut scene. I took it out of my Gamecube and vowed never to play it again. A few months later, I was bored so I looked on the internet to find out what I was supposed to do and put it back on, I ended up playing to death and loving it.

One of the reasons that I liked Mass Effect 2 is that wandering around the Normandy for the first time reminded me of wandering around the Delphinus in Skies Of Arcadia.

Crysis 2. I really effing hated that game for taking the gameplay mechanics of its predecessor and modernizing them. I did not play the game for several months after playing it for only a couple hours before deciding to try playing it as if it was not some abomination of Crysis, but rather its own unique series. It worked and I ended up loving the game to the very end. Now all we need is the real Crysis 2 to hit PCs.

Battlefield 1942. I played it on a crappy computer with no internet connection. Once I upgraded and got my lightning-fast dial-up, I played it for the next 2 years.

Feel the same way. When I first picked it up, I didn't like the depressingly stark contrast between Fallout and the lush world of an Elder Scrolls game. I thought that it was too depressing, and thought that Megaton's architecture was shit. :p

That said, I went back over Christmas and picked it up again - I was surprised by how much I liked it. I didn't actually finish the main story, but I explored a lot of the world, and did a lot of cool things, so now I see it in a much more charitable light.

Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines.

Tried it once and just about managed to get past the starter quests before thnking it was a boring mess.

Picked it back up a few weeks ago and got right into it.

Suppose it depends on mindset when playing.

Alpha protocol. I rented it shortly after release (for one of my consoles, can't remember which it was), hated it almost instantly and sent it back after a couple of hours. Several months later I ended up being gifted it on Steam and I finally got around to trying to play through it a few weeks ago. Now I don't know if it's been patched, if the PC version is better or if I was just more willing to give it a go now that I owned it and it wasn't taking up one of my rentals, but I actually found it pretty enjoyable.

Fallout New Vegas

Played it months ago and really couldn't get into it as much as Fallout 3; then I started a new character the other week and am absolutely loving it (apart from when it bugs out on me)

Yes, I gave Universe at War a second chance after hating the demo, I though the game was bad.

After replaying, I revised my opinion, the game is worse than bad. It fails in both story and gameplay. The game is horrible, an insult to the genre.

Ditto. Took it back the same day I bought it, then picked it up again a few months later and enjoyed it.
