Have you ever sat down and thought 'Yep, this franchise is dead'?

I realised GTA was dead after it went realistic in its artstyle (GTA4).

Yeah, this are the only two franchises which I see as dead for me (Of course out of those I actually played).
I can pretty much agree with GTA4.
The realistic artstyle and physics just ruined the whole experience for me.
The cure is Saints Row.

I don't have very many "Dead" games. I played SOEs Star Wars Galaxies, that was a wonderful swift kick in the groin, but in general the only lack in the games I like is there slow release dates, Mass Effect 3, Half Life 2: Episode 3, I'm sure I missed a couple...

final fantasy has been dead to me since VIII and just keeps getting worse, Nintendo has actually managed cause me to be wary of any future Metroid games after two massive disappointment's in a row(MP3 and other M), I was recently thinking that Mega man seems to be dead for real (as in no more games because Crapcom doesn't want to make anything besides incremental upgrades to the same few games) but the battle network series lost its charm after 6 anyway, Mario has been dead to me since sunshine, sonic of course, so yeah pretty much all my childhood franchises are dead now

Devil May Cry.

I really like 1, 2 and 3 with the exception of 2 but 4 felt.... not like the Devil May Cry game I wanted and Nero, well, fuck Nero. And now the new "DMC" looks less and less -good- or even interesting the more I see of it. Not to mention that whole haircut thing, mother fucker.

I love you Dante but this cruel world just isn't made for you. See ya

Final Fantasy XIII.

I HATE FFXIII. Although, it didn't actually kill the franchise for me, it pushed as far towards the edge as possible without falling off.

I'm willing to give VersusXIII or XV a shot when/if they ever come out, but if the next 40-50 time investment I put into an FF game doesn't pay off with an interesting story, I'm done for good.

Yeah, you wish buddy. I wouldn't say that Fable is dead, because Peter Molyneaux probably won't stop beating the poor girl until every last drop of money drains from it. When is that Kinect Fable game coming out, like December or something?

But that said I would say that Fable (as a series) is dead to people who don't enjoy playing The Sims. Because thats where its going, its a Sims game.

I don't even think Versus XIII is in active development.

On topic: nearly every nintendo franchise. They're dead to me at least. Mario in particular has been pretty stale since Sunshine. Zelda is circling the drain, but Skyward Sword has a chance to revive my interest. Metroid seems pretty alive and well if we can dismiss Other M.

Too Human. Even though I loved the premise and actually had some fun with the game, I knew any franchise was DOA.

I realised the Red Faction series was dead after playing the demo of Red Faction Armageddon.
Open world destruction is fun.
Underground, claustrophobic, linear destruction isn't so much.

A franchise that's certainly dead to me would be Street Fighter. It died in the late nineties after nobody cared about 3rd Strike, then someone took a defibrillator to it and the resulting drooling, gibbering, mentally disabled Igor that's been shambling around for a couple of years now, that's Street Fighter IV. You can catch a glimpse of how good Street Fighter used to be amidst all the mechanics put in place to make the game accessible for the new wave of kids with self-diagnosed Asperger's Syndrome, but for the most part it's just jab combos, fifty-year reversal windows, and a mechanic that rewards you for losing.

The fighting game war from 1994 has ended in 2011. I am flabbergasted that Mortal Kombat has won.

SOCOM died after Combined Assault. Hopes were high for Confrontation but that game just failed in every regard. The game was soo buggy, that even after having multiple large patches the game is still one of the most instable titles on the PS3. And SOCOM 4? Well... It basically took the franchise and mutilated it to the point you cannot even recognise it anymore.

Then there's Splinter Cell. Conviction was a decent game but in no way, shape or form was it a Splinter Cell game. And knowing Conviction sold pretty well, I doubt we'll ever see the old Sam Fisher ever again.

I realised Warcraft was dead about a day after I started playing Cataclysm.
This happened to me when I entered ToC in Northrend. Also on HoMM IV. Also on FF 12. And on RE4 of all things. Ah well.

At least there are new and original games like............................I got nothing. Ah Catherine. That seems pretty original. Not sure I have the patience for it though.

Sonic the Hedgehog. Everything since Sonic Adventure 2 has just been terrible.

Also, pretty sure that Far Cry stopped being good after Predator Instincts. From all accounts 2 was terrible, and I actually facepalmed watching a video for Far Cry 3.
Oh Sonic. Poor, poor sonic.

Spyro The Dragon Series, I shouldn't have to explain this one considering the picture someone posted.

The Old Republic killed the KOTOR series for me.

Any Forgotten Realms games after Neverwinter Nights 2 killed the series for me, because 4th edition forgotten Realms is a horrible setting.

I hated Mass Effect 2 and will not be getting 3.

Master of Orion 3 killed the series for me.

WoW killed Warcraft for me.

There are others. Too many others, but those ones are the first that come to mind.

GTA after San Andreas (GTA4 lost all humour and became too real for my liking), Fable after no. 3 (which just plain sucked), Red Faction Armageddon (free roaming fun destruction and exploration becomes linear, stuck in a tunnel with megadrive era aliens crap) and halo after no 1 (never really played halo 2 that much and 3, odst and reach just seemed like more of the same).

Devil May Cry 4. After 3 I was so excited and instead I got the same levels copy and pasted and some whinny little kid.

Splinter Cell Conviction, a good game by all means, but not in any way shape or form Splinter Cell.
Beat me to it. Yeah, the game was all right, but it completely screwed up what made Splinter Cell what it was. It turned a third-person stealth title into a third-person shooter. You had to try really hard to stick to the stealth gameplay; otherwise, it turned into a crappy Gears of War.

Instead of killing Locust, though, you kill a bunch of asshats who like to yell profanity at you while they search for you. You'd think they'd stop insulting you once you start picking them off one by one.

In terms of games, I haven't hit one yet. I've hit a lot of franchises I thought were stupid, but not dead.

The closest franchise I think that might be dead is Gundam based on the latest Gundam AGE series that just started. I had high hopes and was given....a cartoon with the feel of an after school special rather than the awesomeness that Gundam usually is....Gundam may very well be dead to me.
