You go online to test your skills against others and get your ass handed to you?

Happened to me when I bought dj hero 2 not long ago. It's actually a decent party game and you can waste away quite a few hours on it if you don't mind the music.
I thought I was amazing at it scoring five stars on every song on hard and I had a handle on the cross fader

Anyway I put my skills to the test online and just got completely slated by my opponent.

This is probably why I stick to playing on my own at least I can beat the computer.

So has this ever happened to you?
How do you handle loosing to people online?
Or are you really good at online play?

Happens all the time.

I'll have a really good run in Super Street Fighter 4 and then suddenly get my arse handed to me by some scrubby Ryu user who has probably never used another character, ever.

This happened with Call of Duty. My first FPS was Halo so I thought I could run outside and be able to take more than a few bullets before having to hide. How wrong I was. Doesn't help that it was MW2 and everyone was camping.

The opposite happened with Killzone 2. I bought it in February 2010 and I stayed offline until August or so because I thought the only people left there were elites hopelessly addicted to the game. I played Skirmish for a month or so and I did really well online. I made it in the top 5% my first week.

Yeah, happened to alot of games. I have never had the pleasure of facing a real opponent in TS Future Perfect, but I imagine that's how it would go....

Metal Gear Solid 4...

I'm actually really good at the game, due to playing through it more than 13 times.
I've actually even got the Big Boss emblem.
So I think to myself, "Lets take all of these skills I have, and try the online!"

Too bad the online is actually about shooting each other, than being stealthy. I got my ass handed to myself over and over, and rarely won.
I don't play it anymore, but after playing it for a month, I could only get DECENT at it. I never became really GOOD at it.

I was kinda the same as the OP on Guitar Hero. I can play it on Expert and score 98% on most songs, it's just the people online never fuck up. They must be like 1 inch away from their screen and have some guy in the background yelling "YOU CAN DOOOO IT". I play for fun, so I don't care if I lose. With that being said, I really don't know why I played it online, it's the same as single player, just on half a screen, and the only point is to win but I didn't care about that soo... what the fuck was I doing? *shrug*

Also, racing games. I've learnt the single player will always be easy as fuck, and when you go online there will be rank 200s with 100 hours logged in online races that will rape you.

Every DBZ fighting game ever.

I've allways been nigh unbeatble by my friends, but going online produced the 1st real challenge in these games.

Blitzcrieged my way through Black Ops story mode, no problems at all. So I had that "fuck yeah, i can take on the world!" feeling.

Went to the online...my ass was left in 5,000 different pieces as I ragequit harder than I EVER have before.

Not that much in FPSs, which is the only game I play online. I found Bad Company's multiplayer to be much easier, because the AI in singleplayer can snipe me from across the map with a fucking tank.

A Hermit's Cave
Used to play CSS against a former pro, so I had my ass handed to me on a regular basis (with eight other pretty good players, typical stats in a ten minute round would be Kills = 6 Deaths = 9). Go online and I get a positive ratio, but not a good one.

*sigh* I am indeed used to disappointment.

Oh hell, if I had a penny for everytime this happened to me... COD:WaW... COD:MW2... COD:BlOps... Medal of Honour... Resistance 1 + 2... Its always that "Yeah, I kicked ass at this game, Imma rape some ass online" and then 5 mins later "... I think I just got butt-fucked... without a reach-around"
