My friend keeps trying to get me to play Dead Space, but I'm just not in to survival horror games. On the other hand I'm trying to get him to play the Assassins Creed series, but he doesn't like it because he thinks its just running around stabbing people.

Have you ever had a similar situation with your friends?

Yeah.

I recently introduced two of my friends to X-Com: UFO Defense, and they love the hell out of it.

So... I guess no, I actually haven't. Worked out fine for me.

Me and a buddy constantly try to get my cousin to play games with us. But that almost never happens. He refused to buy terraria because it was 2D even though he loves minecraft. Got him to buy neverwinter nights 2 and he just speed playing with us. He also whines that we get him to buy a game then stop playing it. Which is somewhat true since I personally stopped playing rift and aion. But he also got those games months after me and my buddy got them

My best friend and I always share games. I tend to be a bit more forceful with her.
I've even bought her games. It's very much hit or miss, though. We like similar games, but we have completely different play styles.
It's very odd being best friends and both loving games and just being so different game wise.
I try my best not to force new games on her. It usually doesn't work, but when it does it works really well (I introduced her to Elder Scrolls, a series we both love).

There's a guy at my workplace who plays games. He's studying to be a game programmer. I was delighted when I found this out, because I thought I might be able to talk games with someone in real life.

I recommended Amnesia: The Dark Descent to him. He responded that it was way too boring.

Then he mentioned that he mostly plays Black Ops. Then he said that Black Ops had far and above the best story he had ever seen in a game.

...

Yeah.

The conversation didn't get far after that.

I recommend compromise, agree to play each other's game all the way through. I have played both games and to me they are great games.

OT:All the time. I am trying to get one of my friends to play at least one of these games: Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect, Fallout NV and Final Fantasy but he says he does not like JRPG/RPG's when he has never played one in his life. One of my friends has been telling me to play Minecraft which I really want to get but for some reason I cannot bring myself to purchase it.

Yeah, but some people just aren't into games pushed on them- ex. My friend said that I should play Valkeria Chronicles for PS3 because I like games that are like it, but... I just don't want to... it just doesn't 'click' with me... on the other hand, while visiting his house I saw Disgaea 1 lying on the floor of his room, I asked him if I could borrow it... and... well... *looks at avatar pic* I just got hooked... probably because I actually chose it, as opposed to it being pushed on me.

FUCK YES.

Yakuza 4: Tried to get my friend to play it after FF XIII, thinking he won't mind cutscenes.

"Nah, dude, the combat's repetitive, all you do is fight dudes. I'd rather play Dynasty Warriors, at least you used weapons in that game."

Jet Set Radio Future:

Friend: "Dude, I don't like this, it's not realistic. You just grinded up a telephone pole."
Me: "Then what's realistic to you?"
Friend: "Call of Duty. At least it tries to be realistic."

Total Overdose:

"Wow, this game is stupid, you're a Mexican that shoots people, this is a rip off of Stranglehold."

Parasite Eve:

Me: Why didn't you get further into that game?
Friend: I dunno, the combat was boring, and the plot makes no sense.
Me: Give it time, it gets better.
Friend: I dunno.
Me: Come on, you beat FF VIII and XIII, why not this?
Friend: Because I only wanted to beat them because they were Final Fantasy games.

Pictured: Me, after being told all that crap.

But on the other hand, I bet him I'd beat FF XIII if he'd beat Persona 4. He beat Persona 4 and got the Super Duper Fucking Retarded Total Asspull That Actually Wasn't Too Bad Secret Ending. I got about 10 hours into FF XIII before I gave up.

I've had success getting some friends to play MineCraft. They probably like the game more now than I ever have.

I can't get anyone to stick with Bloodline Champions. Probably because it's a genre many people haven't play before and it has a high learning curve paved with an unwelcoming community and frustration. I try my best to let them have a chance at winning, but they're so awful it's difficult to restrain myself lol

I wish I had more interesting stories than those. (I wouldn't count what I typed as any kind of story though)

I assume you used that big red Rage Fist to punch him in the face.

I usually don't try. I'm more willing to try games my friends play though. I gave Diablo II a shot because one of my friends who inexplicably sticks to Macs played it and naturally didn't have any other options. For any non-Mac user though I'm a bit more picky, if you're on 360 or PC, you've got more choice in games so I won't pick up just any game because a friend plays it.

Oh ho, boy did I want to. Fucker's lucky he's my bro, or else I probably would've. I mean, he's my best friend, but boy, were those some of the dumbest things he said. Mind you, not all of those were from the same friend, just a good amount of them.

Still, his favorite girl in Persona 4 was all of them except Ayane, so I can't ever stay mad at him.

My boyfriend recently got me into Minecraft and Terraria, and I may have just convinced him to play Half-Life 2. He has it on the 360 and started it once a while back, but then he quickly learned that he isn't so good at FPS's without a mouse and keyboard so he dropped it. So after telling him about my recent exploits with the game and about how unique the experience is, he seems quite intrigued.

I've been trying to get my not-interested-in-hockey friend to get NHL '11 so that I can play online with someone I know. No dice. But I got him into football and Madden so there is hope yet.

Also trying to get one of my friends to buy Portal 2 so I can try the co-op.

I tried to get one friend to play games. I can't even remember what she DID spend her time doing at this point... Anyway, I went so far as to buy her a Nintendo 64 (from another friend) for her birthday with Zelda Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. She had seen me riding Epona and was keen to do the same. She probably used the console once... It was probably a lost case anyway! She's now into make-up, boys, and looking sexy. xD
