I quit smoking, at the ripe old age of 42, heard it takes years off your life. Glad I stopped before it affected my health.

I'm in the process of giving up coffee and energy drinks. I cut energy drinks and coffee completely out. It sucks. I get massive headaches. The way I'm dealing with it is by drinking about 20 ounces of caffeinated soda around 12:00-2:00 (when the headache is the worst). I plan to start drinking less and less soda every week.

It sucks, but I am way too dependent on caffeine.

I gave up soda and carbonated drinks. super difficult and took quite some time. Wondrous headache's and I was always fatigued. But Im super proud of myself and I was able to do it!

Now time to give up nail biting.

I once had to cut down on the amount of soda I drank. It was for more than just dental reasons; caffeinated products like CocaCola and energy drinks make you piss out the calcium your body needs. So if you drink a ton of soda now, you will get some serious arthritis later in life.

The best remedy is to switch exclusively to tea with a soda or energy drink on the weekend or at a social gathering. Tea comes in a vast variety, and you can switch between caffeinated and non-caffeinated progressively to get over the headaches. You can also add a lump or two of sugar to get over that issue as well.

You will have the headaches and lousy feeling for a week or two the way you are going now. It will suck. Afterwards you will wonder why the world is so corrupted by energy products when you suddenly can think clearer and you feel great.

Yeah, your brain is throwing a pre-emptive fit. If you can survive the first week, the worst will be over.

I've tried butting my sugar down to natural levels (ie. minimal candy), but I keep having splurges. It's doubly bad because then I feel down about caving... which prompts me to eat more sugar.

I'd like to give up carbs - or some carbs, at least... but, sorry. My morning cereal, carb side for lunch (usually rice or potatoes), dinner, and popcorn / small plate of 8-10 nachos at night... can't.
Good. I have no idea why you'd give up carbs anyways. Atkins is a crock, carbs are your standard energy source. Sans carbs, you'd have to rely on protein burn (BAD) or chemicals (WORSE).

Tried (several times) quitting gaming, lasted 1.5 months.
Tried (several times) quitting choclate, lasted 2 months.
Tried (several times) quitting chips/sugar junk food, lasted 3 months.
Tried (several times) quitting fast food, lasted about a month.

Quitting things cold turkey is just dumb, and I never lasted with them. I just started taking them in major moderation.

I quit buying all junk food when I moved out of my parent's house, so I gave all that up (now I only have it when I go visit them or if I buy it once a month or so), so carbs are my vice now. Would like to cut back on them, but I find myself starving at lunch, so I tend to need it.

I'd like to quit sitting down at work, but that's kind of hard. I've been at a desk job for almost six months now, and, honestly, my tailbone hurts. Has for a while. Don't know how to fix that, though, as I kinda doubt my work would pay for a tall desk.

Ive never tried to quit anything but reading here makes me think that I should try to give up on eating candy.
On a daily basis I eat at least one metric fuckton of the stuff a day I should at least try to cut back anyway.

I've given up chocolate, pastries, popcorn, you know, all that kind of stuff a couple of years ago. I probably couldn't even start eating them again, because not eating them has become a part of me.

Or booze. I'm a happy drunk, me - I really can't understand why the fuck anybody would want to fight drunk(okay, so the anaesthetic effect has it's advantages but the impairment more than cancels that out, right?)
As you can see from just above your post I haven't been drunk and I don't drink now but it's not a choice.

You don't choose to be a happy drunk. The time I got tipsy I just felt angry, I had to actively try to calm, even though nothing was irritating me. I usually have a veil of calmness/happiness/whatever but I know I am a naturally angry person.

Alcohol seems to have the ability to bring out peoples natural side, you must be a naturally happy person, so you are a happy drunk. Some people are just the opposite.

I think I may be becoming a little bit too comfortable with the internet to say this, but what the hell?

I'm in the process of giving up porn. I just started thinking I was watching too much, and even though people in my age group spout it off as normal, I though it was sort of becoming a little creepy.

I decided to quit before it started actually becoming a problem, and figured the month long trip in a poor country that I'm currently undertaking would be a good of time as any to start. Being in close proximity with your Aunt and Cousin is a pretty good way to force you to quit, though it's been about two weeks now (started early), and I honestly haven't had a problem with it. What really reinforced it was watching a video by some guy (Ted Talks or something?), that said people who give up porn in their life may start having better luck with relationships. Being a guy who hasn't been in a relationship for almost a year now, and hasn't technically had a girlfriend for three years, this was very appealing for me.

I guess I've started feeling more good about myself, but I think some of the credit is due to the large mirror in the living room where I'm staying and I get to see myself constantly. I'm not a bad looking fellow.

secodn question [b/]have you ever tried to give up anything? how did you feel? were you sucessful?[/b]
First of all, I like your avatars. This one is that awesome creepy kind. I <3 it.

Second... For Dental reasons!? Are you shitting me? Having a cup of joe is one thing, but Energy Drinks fuck you up when you drink assloads of them. Maintaining a sleep schedule is one thing, but having it maintained and decided by drugs like the ones found in Energy drinks... Yikes! Good Luck, and stay away from them. It'll suck for the first while... But if you tough it out long enough, you'll feel healthier, energetic, and overjoyed.

On Topic though... I haven't really given up anything major. Probably because I've done nothing. I've taken up things that I probably should have when I was younger, and loved them... But that's about it.

I've made a new rule. If there's any social activity. Always leave the computer unless I'm sick. It's been going well.

I never had any issues with sleeping, and as I said caffine wise my intake was on the moderate side

Junk / fast food. It's been my new year's resolution to eat healthier, and overall been sticking to it pretty nicely. Down now to having a bag of chips once a month or so, and haven't touched fast food at all. Sometimes it's hard, but usually when I get the urge to get some junk food, I stop and ask myself why I want it. I can't really anwser besides with, "because I do!" and the feeling kinda dies down.

I gave up energy drinks awhile ago, not completely since I have them every so often when driving at night (hey just in case) But when I was at my peak I used to drink 7-8 NOS bottles a day. I think they recommend or say you should have 1 max a day. I quit cold turkey and had no problems whatsoever.

The when I was working the night shift I started drinking them again, and when I quit that time (this last time and was my essentially "for good" time) I was fairly tired (I blame that mostly on the whole working nights) and a slight headache but that was it. My friend on the other hand Had terrible migraines and was kinda disorientated and rather irritable for a week after he quit and he didn't even quit cold turkey (and he even started mixing his with water)
