Lets be honest here guys, I have played games all the way since Pokemon on the game boy (before game boy colour), and I have yet to meet a person who plays LAN games, everyone plays online multiplayer or offline 2 controller or more controller based multilayer. So please post here if you agree that LAN seems a mystery to you like me, or if you have used it and how exactly its different or in any way useful to someone who uses online multiplayer or co-op with a friend offline? as in my view the 2 seem to be the same thing, you need (as I understand it) the internet to use LAN play.
I love XBL and whatnot, but no multiplayer experience can ever beat friday night lan

LAN is good times, my friends and I host LAN parties all the time. Drinks, chips, pizza, no worrying about annoying kids shouting in your ear...but this involves social interaction with real people so this might pose a problem to some

Hell yeah.
I even downloaded a program called Hamachi that lets you LAN over the Internet with torrented games.
(But shhhhh. That's illegal.)

yeah hamachi is good, if you find a good network to join its kinda almost like playing online normally because there are so many users using.. 'legit' *cough cough* games. lol

me and my friends used to have LAN parties back in high school like twice a month, and we're talking like 20-30 people. So yes, yes I have.

What question is this? You could ask the same with: are you over 20 and are/was a PC Gamer?

But yeah, we (my friends and i) don't do many LAN-Parties anymore. We have at least one per year, between christmas and new year. But it is AWESOME. We going completely into nostalgia-mode; We play games like Half-Life, Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Starcraft, Age of Empires... its cool.

But i raise you even. Not only have we played LAN.. no i have even played with a null-modem cable. (connecting the serial ports for ultimate speed *g*)

Hell Yeah! Its wicked fun. Nothing beats the look on you opponents face as you beat him to death in some way, preferably with his own skull.

what? i loved lan games, everything from warcraft 2, 3, to doom 2, quake 2, and starcraft. lan games are amazingly fun, its cool because u can have a lan party, u invite ur friends to your parents garage, set up the lan, have all of u play side by side, and then get drunk while yelling at eachother for peeking at each others screens. trust me, it doesnt sound like fun now, but if u try it OMG.

Let's set up a list of games that I've played a LAN game in.

1. Hexen (2?)
2. Starcraft
3. Company of Heroes
4. Counter-Strike: Source
5. HL2:DM
6. Diablo
7. Call of Duty 4
8. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault

That's not the end of the list.. but I can' be bothered.

Yeah I've used it a few times. The most recent time's gotta be when my friend had a birthday party at a gaming centre thing, and we went and played Unreal Tournament.

I've joined the Video Game Society at my university, and apparantly they do alot of LAN gaming.

I used to do this as well. Still have the cable in my box of random PC bits.

Remember people, while obliterating a guys base is fun, there is no sweeter sound then their cries of anguish from the next room!

Think the best lan I ever went to was supposed to be a study group for end of year exams for 1st year bachelor of IT back in '97. After about 20 minutes of looking at books, 12 of us walked to the local bottle shop, bought 2 bottles of spirits each, got drunk and played 66 straight hours of lan carmageddon.

I hope you know that any gaming event or competition is a LAN... I've used System Link (or LAN if you will) many times on my xbox for gears and halo before I got xbox live and lets face it if you have 2 xboxs and 2 tvs why split screen?

i have once. i wasn't keen, would have preferred it if we were playing split screen. the LAN just seemed to take some of the co-op togetherness fun out of it
