I've been to quite a few LAN parties all in all, though one of them was a major, a gaming tournemant, which, though still fun, wasn't as personal or fun as the ones I've been to or hosted myself. Some of my more memorable ones has to be my first, where we kept played until we couldn't keep our eyes open, which fun at the time, really messed up my sleep for the next few days. Another would be the summer LANs, gaming all day, going out at night and getting drunk, sleeping late the next day, only to wake up and game some more, rinse and repeat for a few days. Good times, good times.

In the last few weeks of my second semester, our computer lab teacher downloaded the UT(1) demo in all the computers. Everyone would join the LAN server and get killed by me, for I was the only one who had multiplayer experience other than a poor Halo 3 online career. The only people that could kill me were people that noob sprayed across the map with the rocket launcher and any other noobish means of domination and no on liked any other gamemode than deathmatch because they're all mindless idiots (No offence to random DMers out there).

All of the younger gamers will be saying no...
Pretty much. I'm older, it would seem.

Heh heh. LAN Gaming more or less meant round of Starcraft back during my days in uni residence. I mean, we had this super fast intranet/internet and it would have been a shame to waste it on stuff like research. Nope, it was all for video games, movies and yes, porn (one guy had 500 gigs of it). Ah, I still remember my battlecruiser armadas, I used to Yamato gun lone Zealots and Zerglings just to be an ass.

Sure, I do LAN's all the time. We usually play starcraft, flatout and CSS. On occasion we play other stuff, but these are the most regular. We also do alot of other funny stuff, so it's not all about gaming.

Those were the days, playing L4D, CS:S, Crysis Wars, Flatout 2, CoD4, DoW2, CS:S Hide and Seek and Titan Quest at a LAN party...yeah Sunday (yesterday) was pretty good. I was at a LAN party this weekend because my uni gaming society holds them every month. They are usually pretty awesome, and most games are so much beetter when you are within shouting range.

Lets be honest here guys, I have played games all the way since Pokemon on the game boy (before game boy colour), and I have yet to meet a person who plays LAN games, everyone plays online multiplayer or offline 2 controller or more controller based multilayer. So please post here if you agree that LAN seems a mystery to you like me, or if you have used it and how exactly its different or in any way useful to someone who uses online multiplayer or co-op with a friend offline? as in my view the 2 seem to be the same thing, you need (as I understand it) the internet to use LAN play.
"since pokemon" LOL. You're funny. LAN is like internet, but faster, much faster. With 0 ping lan is the best way to eliminate net based unfairness. That said, with broadband there is little point in lan parties outside of competitive play.

I suppose you are mostly a Halo-playing xbox owner?
PS3 Owner who mainly play's PC games online

Tried once. I tried to hook up two 360s round a friends house once to play some Halo 3 with 8 people as he didn't have live, but the non-hosting 360 wouldn't recognise the hosting one. The Ethernet cable worked but it just decided to shit out on us.

Me and a few neighbours LAN Left 4 Dead, CoH since there is way less ping.

And i prefer LAN since:
*everyone is within shouting range
*everyone is within rage smack distance
*you can steal each others candy and energy drinks easily
*No annoying 12 year olds with headsets

May i second the part about rage smack distance?

I once played a UT95 LAN. Not a common experience for a 17 year old. I was like, 3 when that game came out.
