Have you ever wondered if you've seen someone online in more than one place?

Recently, I was reading a post and the poster mentioned he had been watching Code Geass back to back. Well, I've been doing the same thing on YouTube, and it made me wonder if maybe I had spoken to the guy before? Maybe I made a comment and he had replied to it? Or maybe someone else and I frequent more than one forum and we respond to each other all the time?

I think it's a bigger version of seeing people in more than one place, like a teacher or professor at a store. We don't expect it, and due to the anonymity of the internet, we don't think about it.

I know this really isn't an important, life-altering sort of thing, but what do you think? is it possible despite the sheer number of users? Have you ever felt the same way? Maybe met these people and made a connection?

Sometimes I've felt I'd come across one of my Windows Live buddies on an online game, despite not knowing she played. I was never sure if it really was her, since it's not the kind of thing you would ask (i.e. if you're right then good for you, but if you're wrong, it seems creepy as hell). I could have sworn it, however.

Those feelings are awkward.

But anyway, yes. I believe it can happen, even if the odds are stacked against you.

I think about this kind of thing all the time. It's one of the main reasons I either,

A) Use the same name in my account (for when I like to be known)
or
B) Use a different name for my account (because I never want to be found out)

While on the internet i frequently encounter deja-vu and it always makes me think "I wonder if I've spoken with this person before." Though I never do get to find out. They never respond to any messages I send them to confirm it.

I've seen the same person twice commenting on Youtube, on different videos. Mind you, they *were* both uploaded episodes of MST3K, but still...

I've felt like that before. First time I played WoW, I met a guy named Trublood who was pretty cool. Then the second time I played, I met a guy named Truzero, who was also pretty cool. No relation though.

I met someone on WoW by the name of Delivann, talked a few times, then started playing Guild Wars and met someone called Master Delivann. Happened to be the same person, i was very surprised

I have the same username for everything (except PSN where it's with a 2 at the end). Chances are maybe one of you has ran into me randomly in the past somewhere (be it through stumbleupon, another forum, or Xbox Live).

Twice I've stumbled upon a weird bunch of Escapists hanging around Sydney. Those guys were strange. They kept making really nerdy jokes and goofing off.

I have the same alias everywhere so I suspect someone has seen me before.
during the short time that I played WOW I knew a guy who was remarkably like one of my family members (though it turned out he lived in another country so it obviously wasn't him)

meeting the same strangers through different means.

traditional mathematics dictates this is probabilisticly so unlikely as to be aproaching impossible.

quantum mechanics dictates its not only possible but infact is probable - weird huh....

were all grouped up forming a big web of relationships, with like attracted to like.

The interwebz is a biig place, it is bound to happen at some point. The only time that has happened to me is and Escapist member met whilst playing TF2 on Xbox. He had the same name for both things and I recognized him.
