Have you not bought a game after watching Yahtzee's review of it?

I don't necessarily take his word as law, but I do consider what he has to say, keeping in mind the following scale:

Yahtzee: It's good (It is amazing)
" ": It's 'meh' (It's good/v. good)
" ": It's bad (It's average/above average)
" ": It's horrific (It's bad/horrific)

I don't buy games very often though, so even if I did let his opinion sway my own, it's only once in a blue moon. The only game I know I'm going to buy next is Diablo 3, whenever it's actually going to be released.

Hmmm....no, but I did buy Just Cause 2 after watching the review. While his complaints about the Stronghold Missions are more than valid, it's a solid game...and has quite possibly the most awesome ending of any game I have ever seen.

I just look at his "reviews" as a bit of weekly comedy.

He's taken the piss out of a few games i've enjoyed but still found his view to be funny.

Simply put I don't view him as a games reviewer more of a comedy act aimed at taking the piss for fun and giggles.

No. My opinion rarely seems to coincide with his, so I just watch the reviews for entertainment.

I find him useful. He hits flaws that are often not mentioned elsewhere. If I don't have time to read a whole deal about a game (maybe I'm just picking a quick rental list), I'll watch his video and read a mainstream review or two. Usually you can pick out the truth from those stories and make a decent decision on the spot.

If I'm actually going to purchase a game, then I'll research the Hell out of it first.

Not at all. I grew up Playing Halo games (For the story, the jumpy, shooty, silly mutiplayer can piss off to hell) so when he ever gives a Halo game a bad review I laugh at his points and play it anyways. Plus, like most gamers, I thoroughly enjoy online gaming, which he doesn't, so obviously Yahtzee an I will rarely see eye-to-eye on a game. Anyone who can't decide for themselves what they like shouldn't watch ZP, or else they'd end up hating everything.

I generally take Yahtzee's reviews with a grain of salt but he did convince me not to get Mercenaries 2. Thing is I was pretty keen to get the game and his review just made me do a bit more research before deciding whether I'd get it or not. After looking into things it didn't seem very good so I decided against it.

A while after I saw the Mindjack review, I saw it for really cheap. Then I remembered "It's fucking, fucking, fucking, bad, bad, bad, don't,don't buy it."

No, in fact, some games I've bought solely on reviews by him. In fairness, once I got the hang of it, Just Cause 2 was actually really good fun.
Agreed, Just Cause 2 was actually fairly clever, it almost seemed like Eidos was making fun of the usual shit they put out, like how the Army of Darkness was (arguably) the best part of the Evil Dead series because Sam Riami was taking the piss.

OT: I actually think it's a little disgusting to go by reviews, sure its ok to watch/read them to get a feel and expectation of what's coming, but it's kind of douchey IMO to say "well if doesn't like this game, then I won't even try it because I love and I don't have enough grey matter to generate my own opinion."

If I'm interested, I'll buy the game, If I'm interested but I know from watching multiple reviews/lets plays/gameplay vids that it's terrible, I'll buy it preowned at any game store that isn't Gamestop, That way I'm minimising damage to the industry by not giving money to companies that don't deserve it and I can return it if it is really that bad.

To be honest, I wish I'd seen his review of MW2 first, because he was totally right. Other than that, there's none I can think of; we see things differently evidently; I loved Oblivion, he didn't and I like strategy games, he doesn't. But no, I've never not bought a game after watching his review, mainly because I buy games he doesn't review or before he reviews them.

Nah, not really.

I actually have quite a bit of respect for his opinions, but I don't think he's ever completely turned me off a game.

Then again, it's not that often he really hammers a game that I like. One of the few exceptions I can think of is Mirror's Edge.

Not that I can recall. But I was very much inclined to buy Saints Row 2 after his review, so I suppose he did have the opposite effect once.

Nope. I take nothing seriously from comedians.

Even FFXIII. I saw his review, laughed my ass off. Later I realized that "My Hands" sounded suitably bombastic, the graphics were gorgeous, and remembered that FFX (my current favorite FF) is linear too before buying it used, playing for 30 hours, and quitting on it.

But what's interesting? I quit not because of what people hated (story, characters, linearity,) but because what people loved about it. The point where it gets "open-worldy" can suck it with its massive difficulty spike and demand for grinding.

So no, I don't listen to Yahtzee except when I want a laugh. If I want his serious side, Extra Punctuation is good.

This, the "Yathzee scale". For me, it´s not a yes or no awnser. He usually is enough for me to decide if a game is bad or not (but not before I do a bit of research of course, some gameplay videos, etc.), but for buying a game? Mostly no, because he overreacts a bit for the sake of comedy, even if he says in the "being serious" part (sometimes). But he DID make me want to buy Painkiller, and for THAT, I am forever grateful.

Never. LOVE his reviews, but I take them as entertainment rather than information. Not to say his points aren't valid; they're 99.9% of the time very astute in identifying areas of opportunity within a game; I'm just generally a very forgiving gamer where he blows even minor hang-ups way out of proportion for our enjoyment. What he thinks is "complete shit" is likely not much of a deal breaker in the long run.

I have however wanted to try Branston Pickle ever since he mentioned it 1,000 times...
