Games and movies alike. Or people who go "I read this on wikipedia and am now an expert" irregardless of the fact that wikipedia is completely a contribution type of site where people who may or may not know something can write on there.

I like doing research so that I do know what I'm talking about mostly with cars and guns.....And cars I have been working on since I was a year old I got pictures to prove it :)

During a game of paintball, a friend who played Gears of War thought he was able to roll like in the game. He dived forward and went face first into a tree.
I wished I was able to do that. Unfortunatly, the darn marker was too akward to roll with. And my physique is not that of a condom stuffed with conkers.

the value of that gets lost when the entire enemy team is focussing on you and you only. Fun times.
Isn't that just like 90% of FPS's?

When I was eight I played first person shooters like a religion, instead of thinking I was an expert I went batshit crazy and bought nine guns an learned the hard way.

A friend of mine played virtua fighter and thought he knew Jeet Kune Do, So I wacked him in the kneecap with a big stick.

Yeah, people tend to be like that. I had a friend in middle school who when he played the original Age of Empires thought he knew everything there was to know about history.

I had so much fun beating down some of the kids at school who thought that too. One of them tried to tell me that the Japanese fought the Germans in the 1400's.

Ouch - that'd certainly teach you. It's true though that physical things like that are always MUCH harder in real life, particularly the more acrobatic ones. There are so many things you see in movies and games that are extremely difficult for the non-initiated, yet people still blithely hurt themselves in the attempt - kicking a door down, crashing through a window (hey, in real life they're actually made of glass! It cuts!), breaking a bottle against the edge of a bar...oh, and people who've played a bit too much Mirror's Edge and decide they're King of Freerunning...until they, at best, sprain an ankle.

My little brother played God of War II and now he thinks he studied the Greek mythology in a college-level course.

Anyone notice how people who play a particular game (Eg, war, military shooters), think that they are an expert in guns and explosives afterwards?
I have a mate who is obsessed with CoD4, but know thinks he is knowledgeable on a range of weapons and knows how to stance, reloading mechanism proper way to fire them. We went shooting the other day (his first time), and he tried firing a .22 (simple Bolt rifle), he could barely hold the thing up on his own, he didn't realize how heavy REAL weapons were Lol.
Anyone else think of when someone who has played a game thinks he is an expert...?

P.S
I have NO idea about guns, weapons etc.. I've been shooting a few times, but haven't fired anything more powerful then a 303, and don't know anything more about weapons other then what i watch on "Future weapons" on the discovery channel. Don't get the impression i have a clue about weapons, lol.
Had trouble HOLDING A .22? Seriously? Those things are feathers. Hell, half my airsoft guns weigh more then my brothers 10/22. That said, his DPMS is just a little lighter then my CA Sportline M15, but it's so much comfier...

Simulators may help teach people a few things though. I know for a fact that to get your pilots licence, you need to clock up hours in a simulator as well as in the air. MS flight simulator is used quite allot. But all that time in the simulator is worthless without the theory and the practical hands on teaching you get from a real flight school.

Games can't teach you everything.

Unless it's how to collect lots of pills and fruit while running away from brightly coloured ghosts in a maze or something... even then.

haha totally awesome

Same thing also happened in a game of paintball, except he rolled properly, stood up and fired, only to realise all him ammo had spilled out- he had knocked the magazine off on the ground.
i have had this happen to a friend, but he was rolling sideways

Just noticed my post in this quote, where the monkeys did "haha totally awesome" come in? That wasn't in the original post :S

Edit (accidentally hit post button): If you ever get a no-scope shot on someone in a multiplayer shooter (where you kill someone with a sniper rifle, without using the scope), you probably know that its about 1% skill, and the rest sheer naked luck. Mix a troll in with this though, and its 10,000 uber leet skill. Sigh...
