Also, try Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, decent voices if you can stand to watch the english dub and it has a really good story that sticks faithfully with the manga (unlike the 2003 version)

Watch the OVAS, they are much better....
I disagree. The TV series was of superior quality in terms of story and characters due to subtlety (something that doesn't exist in the OVAs vocabulary). I'm not saying the OVAs are bad, just that the TV series is better.
I always think the OVAS little better, because was much better explained I also think that the end on the anime was too short. There's still no end on the OVAS, but however it ends, they can't make a worst one, its not possible.
Reminds me of Elfen Lied, who was the worse end I ever seen, don't kill the main bad guy, does not explain what happen to Lucy, I mean... Shes Dead? If she is, then who silhuette was that at the door? It mean there are ghost now?

...Errr... Leave it be, I still kinda angry because of that end... But, I can only say better once it ends. Then I can safely say "This is better then that"

I did try watching the Ultimate episodes, but sadly I can't find most of them in English dubs as the company that did the dubs went bust and the series hasn't been picked up by anyone since. ).
Upto episode 5 is all English and I just finished 4, after all that build up all thats left is subtitles. Bad times. I dont mind reading but the Japanese lanuage is so alien to me it completely ruins it. Gah
My thoughts exactly. I watched all five of the dubbed episodes then after that all I could find was news on the company going bump after doing those ones. It's a shame too, the voice acting was really good in them (generally I don't tend to care how good the voices are as long as it's in English, but with Hellsing the voices were surprisingly good, especially considering I'm British myself so I can tell a bad English accent when I hear one). Even if another company does take up the contract anytime soon, the new voice actors are unlikely to be quite as good as the old ones unless they hire all the same actors back for the remaining Hellsing Ultimate episodes. Unfortunately I can't even see a new company coming along anytime soon, especially with a bunch of new anime series coming over from Japan to be dubbed... :p

Well somehow I managed to watch all 7 OVA's in one night, I really dont know how to pace myself.
watching it with buds isn't to bad since I just imgaine the voice overs are still there, but still annoying nonetheless. Dam I want more now, Hellsing is terraible when it comes to endings. Then again they are hard to pull off properly, and I assume there is another OVA to come out (I hope)

Hellsing I've yet to check out, it looks alright but the protagonist seems kind of...one-dimensional at first glance.

I'm going through highschool of the dead at the moment, it's like pure Romero goodness ground up and snorted off the breasts of a Scandinavian prostitute in the bathroom of a high profile rave club burning to the ground...in other words it's worth a watch.

As a Britisher, I can't watch the dub without my ears bleeding. She sounds like she can't decide if she's cockney, posh, South African or Australian. The dub people should have at least stuck her in front of British tv shows at the very least.

I dont mind her voice so much but somtimes it does get a tad irratating when hse shifts her tone randomly.

I read this thread a few hours ago and since then watched the first couple of episodes. I am in no way a fan of anime but its decent. It gets a little pretencious but what doesn't.
Good to hear you checked it out and enjoyed it. I too found it a little prentious and takes itself incredibly seriously, but those aren't nessesacrily bad things.

The only thing the OVAs do extremely well is portray Walter and Alucards skill properly. That and the animation is top-notch.

Elfen Lied (the manga) hadn't finished when the anime was nearing it's end, so that's why they had that ending.

the OVA is still ongoing so eventually more will appear i think the next is sometime in december, bat at least as of the current last one we might be over seras pulling faces, even if the captins death scene had most of its emotion impact sucked out of it by one

To right, would have been so much better in English as well instead of having her screaming in Japanese and having to read it, but it was still fairly powerful. According to internet chatter they are compiling them all into a boxset so hopefully they will finish dubbing it over into English, but its unlikely.

Well if you like Hellsing, go with Black Lagoon, as mentioned above. Full Metal Panic might also be up your alley, as well as the second season Fumoffu.
Baccano's probably the best recommendation that can be given aside from Cowboy Bebop though, if you don't mind following something utterly intertwined and damn near impenetrable on first watch. Don't get me wrong, it's good, but you really have to be paying attention or you'll be thrown around not knowing what's going on.
