Well i want a good strong dog to go jogging with me in the mornings,i work and own my own ristorante but my wife from home,it will live us in the flat,it should have a decent amount if room in the degli ospiti, like i said before my wife works from home and i dont work on weekends so yes and probably not were sort of set in Palermo.
Do you go jogging every morning?
If so, like someone said beforehand, a Husky might not be a bad choice.
They're lovely family dogs, but they're also (relatively) big, and generally are good guard dogs.
If you live in a warm or hot climate, make sure to get a short-coated Husky (obviously :p )...
Though I'm not sure how it would go in a flat, to be honest...

If you don't go jogging every morning? Golden Retriever, probably.
Again, lovely family dog... but not as good a guard dog. Would probably greet intruders with a smile, as opposed to a Husky, who would (at least) bark at them. :p
But is more suited to a flat, at least compared to a Husky.

Honestly though, if you're looking for a big dog, you might be hard pressed to find one that's suited to flats, without a backyard. A Husky or a Golden Retriever is probably exactly what you're looking for (or pretty close), if you have a backyard for it to stay in.
So, good luck looking for a dog either way :) ...

Hope that helps.

Me and my wife Jade have decided to get a Dog,but we can't any good breeds that suit us.Jade being 6 months pregnant wants a small dog like a Terrier ,but i want a big scary fuck-off thing like a doberman.

My brother Giovanni suggested a American Akita but i have no clue what that is.

So escapists can you help me(us) decide on a good dog?
An American or Japanese Akita might actually suit the both of you. They start off really cute and end up being good and loyal guard dogs.

I always tend to recommend labrador retriever females for a first dog. Very friendly dogs, playful but also very lazy. They sleep a lot, but if you show them affection they will show it back. They are however quite crafty when they want, and regardless of if you train them in what they can and cannot do in your house they will still do the things they're not supposed to if they get bored enough.

And since you mentioned you had a child on the way, these dogs also have a very good temper. You can do almost anything without them even trying to bite you. They'll just try to get away from whatever's bothering them.

Males I understand can be quite energetic and unreliable at times though, hence why I said females.

I'm really, REALLY not a dog person, but personally the one (and only one) breed I've seen and liked is the Bedlington Terrier. This guy was out walking his dog and I stopped him to ask what it was, because I thought it was really sweet. That had never happened before.

Don't get a dog. They suck.
In general, I wholeheartedly agree with this.

I'm not just going to suggest a dog because that's the worst possible thing I could do. The kind of dog you should get is based off of you and your situation, and I don't know a thing about you.

There's actually some excellent choosing a dog advice sites out there that help you understand the right type of dog for you. Check this one out:

Erm...that's a Shiba Inu. Totally different. :/

Anyways, Akitas are gorgeous dogs, in my opinion. Favorite breed, actually. But I would hold off if you do plan to get an Akita. They aren't always the best with children. Of course, that's a generalization of the breed and each dog is different. But you can't be too sure and it's better to be safe than sorry.
If you do plan to get an Akita, I'm begging you (down on my knees begging here) to look into the breed in EVERY aspect. So many people buy an Akita because they're cute as puppies but they are a breed that requires you to know exactly what you're doing and how to raise it just right. If not, you're more than likely to have a mess on your hands and/or a homeless dog.

As for a recommendation, it's hard to say. A LOT goes into picking a breed and that's a tiny bit of info you gave us. But...I've got one that can still apply.
The Olde English Bulldogge. They're not a super common breed but terrific family dogs. I own two of them and while I love the Akita, they are absolutely wonderful.
They look like this:

So they would appeal to you wanting a "fuck off" kind of dog but at the same time, they are both sweethearts and excellent guard dogs. I would hate to be on the receiving end of my girls' teeth.
They're great with kids from my experiences and generally, you'll find that about them online. There are four of them in my entire family and they are all great with the kids.
I'll stop there but if you do want any more info, I'd be happy to help.

I've owned a number of dogs, blue heeler, German Shepperd, Fox Terrier, Staffordshire Terrier and a Bull Terrier. Personally my favourite out of all, that adapted best to all circumstances, be it living in town with walks in the park or on the farm, and around children and cars, plus with all the cuteness but also intimidation of having a dog that will not back down, Staffordshire won hands down.
There's the larger American breed or you can get the smaller English breed, I've got the English one. My friend has the American they are both of such a friendly loyal demeanor, we are now both staffordshire fans for life.

Jack Russell terriers are one of the easiest breeds to train, and they are small and friendly.
Jack Russells are a good breed and smart HOWEVER they require a lot of discipline and exercise. they are great dogs. tho when the kid gets older they can tire out the dog and the dog can tire out the kid

the same goes for border collies, they are great dogs, require a firm owner who won't spoil them and a lot of exercise. one of the potential downsides of a border collie is they like to herd, they are farm dogs go figure, so they will try to herd your kids. i personally think this is a good thing cause it will keep your kid where it should be

akitas are nice, however they will tend to bond with one person and that might cause an issue but might not.

there is the bulldog, they are both small and tough looking, tho not good for running.

roteweilers may look tough but if you are it's family it will protect you with it's life, i've seen kids use the dog as a horse and get dragged around by it.

i've had some terriers before, they are good dogs but they can have issues with kids. look up breeds that are good with kids. i would also stay away from a pound dog, mostly because of the kid on the way, it might get jealous and attack the kid.

If your looking for a fairly active dog, maybe something to watch the house while your out maybe consider a husky or a labrador both very active and protective great with kids too. Boarder collies are nice but they well mine, tends to sleep alot and I mean alot like 16 hours a day the damned things lazy >_>

Terriers are yappy little shits and can be quite agressive actually, you dont want a doberman or bulldog if you have a newborn kid even well trained they are always agressive by nature just a stones throw off from going at you.

They most definently aint small but boxer dogs are very friendly if trained, very protective and active only issue is as I said they can get real bloody big and they are ugly as sin.
